This is the best place to stop on your way from Paia to Hana(Road to Hana). They are open early and have a variety of drinks, snacks, prepared foods, coffee and plate lunch style foods for you to purchase and bring along for your drive. We got the mixed plate lunch(shoyu chicken and pulled pork) with brown rice and mac salad. The shoyu chicken was tasty and the pulled pork was much better when you added the BBQ sauce that came with it; mac salad was creamy and mild; brown rice was hard and bad :(but we got white rice to replace it($ 1) and the entire experience was improved. Basically, if you want to have breakfast and coffee and buy food and drinks to bring along for your road trip, make sure you stop here.

I love me some Kuau store! I always stop in for a cuppa coffee after my am run at Baldwin beach, and the ladies behind the counter are always so sunny, it puts a smile on my sweaty, disheveled face. Yes, it’s a lil’ pricey, but there’s lots of variety and quality items in the store. I’d much rather shell out for something that will do my body some good, as opposed to paying little for crappy food. The chia seed pudding is great, the chicken collard wraps are good for those trying to cut down on breads, and the cold press coffee is really nice with a splash of soy milk. Perfect spot to grab a fresh meal whether you’re doing the road to Hana, or just want some healthy, fresh eats for your day. I highly recommend stopping in!

This is a gem of a store. More organic and fresh(raw) products than any place on the island. I had ahi poke bowl for $ 8. Jan had a sandwich and fresh zucchini pesto macadamia salad only $ 11. The name may end simple but the foot was generous and worthy of all 5 stars.

Hot dog was great! We came in right before closing and they still made it without complaint. The 2 young people had not got to do their side work because customers kept coming in. They were great thanks also for the big Apple and jagermiester shot! Dinner of champions!!!

The guidebooks and signs will tell you that this is your last stop to pick up food and provisions for the road to Hana. Don’t believe them. Along the road you’ll likely find folks selling kahlua pig tacos, hulihuli chicken, banana bread, coffee, and all sorts of other snacks. And they’ll probably be better than the Kuau store, which turned out an unappetizing panino of chickpea and avocado, and some okay raw-food salads, as well as some mediocre coffee, and no bathroom. It really deserves two stars for the food alone, but I’m subtracting a star because of the hype and false advertising.

Bien nutrida tienda al costado de la ruta cerca de Paia, es como un supermercado pero con mayoria de productos organicos y naturales. Buenisimos los sandwiches y croissants que te preparan en el momento.

This was the perfect stop for a healthy Road to Hana picnic lunch. My husband got a sandwich and pasta side salad. I got the zucchini zoodle pesto salad with sundried tomatoes and Parmesan. They had plenty of interesting juices, milks, snacks, and«power food» items. I was pretty obsessed with the options, and my husband(who is not quite as health-nutty) was able to fine a few things he was willing to eat. They also had cooler bags and ice, for a reasonable price.

This was our first stop on the Road to Hana and we picked up a chicken salad wrap(which my travel mate said was good) a bacon, egg, cheese and tomato sandwich that was warmed on a panini maker which was so yummy, a mixed plate lunch that we took for later in the day(thought this was good even after a few hours in the car), an iced mocha, and finally, a bag of munchies. It was a bit pricey but I would definitely stop here again if either doing the Road to Hana or in the area. Really would have liked to have been able to get some of the deli made salads, but we didn’t think they would have traveled well. Next time.

Whenever I am on the east side of the island, particularly anywhere near the Paia/Kuau area, I can not resist a stop at the Kuau Store. I always get some Ahi Poke. It is truly the best I have had. Yesterday I wanted and little more and added a vegetarian breakfast sandwich. It was absolutely delicious! When you go, also check out the juice bar and the raw food section. It is all so just plain good. I could write a bunch of fancy words about it but when it comes down to it all we ever really want to know is «is this food good», so I am telling you, this food is great!

Snacks/food is mediocre and pricey! Staff are RUDE! Not a good way to start your R2H. So plan to get your food somewhere else coz its your last chance to get food before you start your day

A great stop before doing the road to Hana or go to the nearest beach. We got Prosciutto sandwich, Turkey sandwich, kale salad and poke. Everything was fresh and tasteful. They also have plenty off smoothies to start your day off. Service was friendly and smiley.

Currently biting into one of their breakfast panini’s which comes with ham, a fried egg, cheese, tomato, and some kind of yummy sauce, served on a ciabatta roll. totally hitting the spot. I ordered the«Protein Warrior» smoothie as well which is one of favorite smoothies EVER. It includes almonds, banana, almond milk, Sun Warrior protein powder, etc. This is great little deli but it can be a little pricey. However, I’ve never felt dissatisfied with anything I’ve paid for from this place.

This a must stop before starting your road to Hana journey. Of course I found it on Unilocal! They have everything you need for your all day drive. Drinks, extensive coffee bar, sandwiches, poke, salads, snacks and desserts. We chose the prosciutto caprese and the Italiano with quinoa salads. They were both very good on nice soft bread. The salad was good, not great tho. They package everything up really well for you and of course provide utensils and napkins. I thought the prices were very reasonable for being such a touristy stop, only about $ 20 for the both of us.

Came here before and after the airport. 1. Killer, fresh, healthy food, juices, and local products. 2. Paninis with mac and chard salad; so delish! 3. Nice people working there 4. Everything was fresh. Make it your stop on the way to Hana or like us, pre and post OGG!

This place is total Unilocaler bait — on the start of the Road to Hana, locally owned, vaguely rustic and hippie, and generally just«that kind of place.» It’s thankfully pretty good all the same. Kuau is a chill general store at the beginning of the Road to Hana that sells a panoply of snacks and drinks alongside some hot/cold salads and sandwiches. Prices are, as you might imagine, a bit high, but the selection is decent. The food here was pretty good. I got a hot Cuban sandwich, which I found rather tasty and fresh — not a surprise, as it was made right in front of me. My girlfriend got a plate lunch, which was equally delicious — the pork was definitely a winner in my book, be it in my sandwich or on her plate. I also got some of the kale salad, which was rather tasty, though not the best I’ve had by a long shot. If you can stomach the price, this isn’t a bad joint to stop before hitting the Road to Hana.

This is a Road to Hana, Breakfast MUSTSTOP! We got through Paia early and found this little gem, thanks to Unilocal and got some yummy snacks and breakfast Panini’s before our amazing trip to Hana. Good bar coffee and tea beverages. Great local and organic products. Definitely a must stop!

For anyone planning on going to Road to Hana, This is THE place to stop before starting your journey. Why? It’s a general store that has everything that you need for your trip, including items that you didn’t think you wanted but it was too tempting to pass on! They have paninis, sandwiches, fun salads(cous cous salad, zucchini«noodes», kale) and much much more. I absolutely love that they have healthy and vegetarian options to keep you full but energized. Kuau Store has all the essential items that you would like for the ultimate road trip. Grab some goodies and have a great adventure! :)

I’m having a hard time understanding this general store’s identity. The business has killer reviews on Unilocal, which I why I stopped in here, but the store did not live up to the hype. There were a few instances of displeasure that can be documented from my time here. First of all, I was very turned off by the attitude and demeanor of the girls behind the sandwich counter. They were talking to each other about the store’s patrons while they were still in the store?! At least wait until they leave the store to make fun of the tourists. They were also doing a lot of personal business. One got a phone call from her boyfriend. One was trying to sell a car while ringing me up. I had to wait for some of these phone calls to end before ordering/paying. Second, the food I had from the counter wasn’t exceptional. It was good but it wasn’t world changing eats. I would say that the food was not worth the price or having to put up with the general vibe of this store. Lastly, I couldn’t get a read on the type of products this store was trying to sell. Next to the flax seed oil and organic quinoa health bars were Cheetos and Bud Light. I feel like those items will attract the exact opposite customer type. There was a major lack of identity in here. Overall, I would say that I was deeply disappointed with Kuau Store. The great reviews may have heightened my expectations but I was under-impressed with this store’s delivery.
