the last two winters we have spent time on palm beach. it’s gorgeous and lovely and everybody is happy… except the people at the palm beach book store. ahem. my 72 year old mother in law was made to feel like a 5 year old child with ice cream all over her hands and the second you pick up a book — the shop keeper asks if you’d like to buy it (i really wanted to say, ‘maybe if you’d let me read the jacket cover of one or two of these books and not treat me like a common shop lifter’). the first year i thought this was just a fluke but it happened again the second year and — well — we’re not stepping foot in there again and i’m pretty sure this shop won’t make it. head to the barnes and noble in west palm beach or — better yet — the classic bookshop on county road where people are nice and friendly and helpful!
