My daughter took me here for Father’s Day Lunch. I couldn’t be happier with her choice. This is a really good, family owned restaurant with character and great food. We need more restaurants like this in the Coachella Valley that have staff that are passionate about providing great service and unique dishes that are made from scratch. Please support these Mom and Pop establishments. Otherwise, we are going to be saddled with more chain style restaurants such as Red Lobster, the Olive Garden and Applebee’s that are boring and devoid of character and charm. Thank you Bianca for helping me have a great Father’s Day! We will see you again when you reopen later this summer.

Love this place! I’ve been back several times & have tried many fabulous items. Wonderful vegetable soup; chicken paprikash; Greek salad; homemade sauerkraut & more. A family restaurant which deserves high marks for its food, warm surroundings & friendly people!

The mark of a truly great restaurant is when, after you’ve been fed and watered, you can’t help but smile because you’ve been fed body and soul. Especially after you get the bill. Alps Village is such a restaurant. Even before we sat down, the service was superb. They held the door open, greeting us warmly like long lost friends as we approached. We were promptly seated and given plenty of time to make our decision for food and drink stuffs. Smiles were infectious. The pretzel, while not as large as the competition down the way, was nevertheless soft, hot and salty good. The cream cheese like spread that came with it was decadent and revelatory. I ordered the chicken wienerschnitzel and the portion was huge(they can also make it from pork or veal). Subtle, lemony and perfectly fried. The mashed potatoes that came with it were a perfect pomme purée of blissful butter. To nitpick they probably could have used a touch more salt. Again, this is nitpicking. My companion had the stuffed cabbage with spatzle. The sauce that came with it was deeply satisfying. The rolls moist and tender. Ask for a side of their homemade bread to mop up the sauce. The two together are ethereal. I am very happy with this find. Places like this feed your soul. In a world that is never more paradoxically connected and aloof, hallowed halls of gastronomy like Alps Village serve as way stations for the weary sojourner. I admonish everyone reading this to frequent this establishment. We need to keep them alive. But don’t too many go to frequent. I don’t want to wait for my cabbage rolls.

Really enjoyed this place and will go back! We started off with the Mediterranean pizza, and as my friend said…“amazing how you can taste all the different cheeses!” I highly recommend it! It’s not really wood fired type pizza. Then my husband had the«skinny chicken Schnitzel.» It was just«ok». But it’s a pretty generic, blah type dish, so what do you expect. The spätzle that he had with it was AMAZING!!! So flavorful!!! We would still recommend it! I had the goulash which was tender, flavorful and YUMMY! I highly recommend it! My friend had the veal schnitzel. Good, but weird that the crisp batter portion wasn’t sticking to the food. It was as if it wasn’t hand breaded. Overall, we highly recommend this place though. We had linguini noodles with two of the dishes and they were fine. We’ll be back! The owner seemed wonderful and a good place we’d like to support!

I came in and had Milka’s Goulash(not sure if that is the correct spelling). Everything was tasty and had the perfect texture. I also had a pretzel, which was delicious. Restaurant is very clean and beautifully decorated. Staff are super friendly and always suggest the best entrees.

My first visit to this place. The location is not the best, as it may be hard to find for some, located in an industrial area. From the outside it looks like a typical store front, but upon entering I was immediately surprised. The décor is definitely warm, with the wood, and metal accents, it is more of a pub style feel then a typical bar, which is different, but a good different, as a lot of places in the area do not have that atmosphere. We were immediately greeted by the friendly and smiling hostess and we were seated right away at a table, it was not all that busy when we went, as it was during lunch time. The service was top notch, both from the hostess who sat us at our table, and our waitress. The waitress would frequently check up on us and made sure everything was tasting amazing. Now for the food and drinks. The waitress suggested one of the beers on tap, called Franziskaner, a German Beer, it was very good and refreshing. We ordered the Cevapcici Sandwich, all of us at our table, and gotta say it was amazing! Was not expecting it to be that good. It all starts with their bread which is made in-house, I could of eaten just the bread itself, it was that good… the sausage was very flavorful, and came with a butter and pepper paste for the bread, again amazing… fried potatoes on the side, a cold beer to wash it down, green salad… nope not with this meal, sorry greens not this time! It was perfect just the way it was, awesome! Will be back for sure, and would like to try some other items on the menu, perhaps will try on an evening, maybe sit at the bar.

I have had the pleasure of enjoying many meals here. Every time the food is excellent! The sauerkraut is the best! Coldest beer in town! Great place to watch your favorite sports event. The last few times I have been into the restaurant, our waitress(I believe it started with a «D», her name was hard for me to pronounce) was amazing!

One of the best restaurants we have experienced in the desert. Been coming to Palm Desert since 1986 so this says a lot. Had the awesome cabbage rolls with spaetzle and a side of ripped potatoes. For desert we had a piece of white cake… Just heaven! We complemented our waitress so much that she sent the Chef out to our table. The Chef/Owner is the sweetest lady you will ever meet. She has brought her secret family recipes to the desert. If she ever reveals her recipes via a Croatian cookbook, sign me up!

Tasty! We noticed the great reviews and decided to give them a shot. The restaurant is clean, and decorated in a German theme. We ordered the Idyllwild pizza, beer and tea. It was pretty darn good. The pizza had a thinner crust, and wasn’t heavy. The clerk offered us a plate with homemade sauerkraut and coleslaw. It wasn’t a creamy dressing, but a very light oil type dressing. Not heavy at all. And the Kraut wasn’t typical sour and tangy, but had a lighter flavor. It was good on its own, but the clerk recommended eating it with the pizza. OMG, the flavors were really good together and the light crunch of the Krout added a nice accompanying texture to the pizza. We tried the Baklava for desert and that was also very good. I can’t wait for our next visit so that I can try the German Chocolate Cake. I was afraid that this place would be too heavy for my(sensitive) digestion, but it wasn’t. The pictures appeared to have a lot of rich and heavy food, and I think that is kind of deceptive. I think that there are lots of filling, savory dishes and a good selection of lighter options for individuals whose diets don’t include a lot of heavy foods.(I’m not equating it to Diet food, but food that isn’t as heavy as sausages and burgers).

I have not set foot in a German themed restaurant for about 20 – 30 years. This means I am a novice when it comes to their menu. We came in for lunch and took seats at the bar. I ordered a couple of safe items for us to split. We requested the Wedge Salad and the Pork Schnitzel. Our server, the owners wife, recommended the gravy to moisten the Schnitzel. This turned out to be a great idea. The selection also came equipped with Fried Potato Chunks. To wash it all down I enjoyed a German Hefeweizen on tap while my wife sipped a Riesling. The food was PLENTIFUL as we could not finish between the both of us. The good news… boxes were available. For dessert we asked for the Baklava and it was AWESOME. The flavor was definitely there and the texture was totally different. Soft and supple as if the entire Baklava had been immersed and soaked for days. The lack of crunch comes from using FRESH Phyllo dough in lieu of frozen. The décor is clean, modern AND rustic. It seems that the owners are very interested in pleasing their customers and tweaks continue as they settle in. The restaurant has been open four months and we can’t wait for our next visit. When we return Ghoulash will be involved. Give it a try. You will have a hearty meal.

Fantastisch new restaurant in Palm Desert. They brought us a small appetizer plate consisting of cabbage and coleslaw. I’ve never been crazy about coleslaw, but this one was so delicious it just melted in my mouth, finished it all. My friend ordered the stuffed cabbage rolls. They were«sehr gut»(very good!). I was craving pizza so I ordered the Idyllwild Pizza. Although the pizza was delicious, I should’ve ordered the stuffed cabbage rolls being that the restaurant is more Bavarian/German themed. The service was just perfect, owners introduced themselves very professionally. I will definitely go back and go out of my way to recommend this new restaurant. Danke shøen, thank you Alps Village!

My boss went out of his way to recommend this place to me. I don’t normally see him get excited about food like this, so I knew that I needed to pay a visit. Eduardo was scrolling through Unilocal and mentioned this place. «Marcus and Kristen really liked that place.» We looked through the menu and decided to give it a try. So, 20 minutes and several minutes of Carpool Karaōke, we arrived. Cute corner spot. Tables outside were available, but the blowing wind made it a better choice inside. The tables and chairs are hardwood with steel. It is a homey/industrial look. There were a few murals of traditional Bavarian dress above the bar area.(I think I found my Halloween look this year.) Eduardo snatched a picture of me goofing around, before we entered. The owner opened the door and made a joke that I could carry more in my hands. I felt comfortable right away. We were brought a plate that had some sauerkraut and another cabbage preparation that had some pepper in it. I liked them both. It made me want some sausage to go with them. Nearly everything on the menu sounded good. I wanted to try everything. I was going back and forth between one of the sandwiches and the stuffed cabbage rolls. The waitress told me the stuffed cabbage would be a better choice. She was right. There were 4 cabbage rolls and a healthy portion of mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were super light. They didn’t have that heavy Thanksgiving meal weight to them. The cabbage rolls had a tremendously deep flavor, yet not heavy. I make some good cabbage rolls and these make mine seem like a TV dinner, in quality. The broth used to cook them was light and flavorful. The ground meat and rice inside the rolls wasn’t dense. They were just perfect. There was a little bit of a red cabbage relish served on the side. It added a nice color element to the plate. Eduardo ordered the Idyllwild pizza. It had pepperoni and sausage. The crust had a nice chew to it. I liked it, but I think I’d stick to the traditional German fare. I saw a party near us that had opted for fish and chips. The fish looked excellent. The«chips» are chunks of potato that have been deep fried to a beautiful golden brown and delicious color. They look like they will fill you up. I heard another woman mention to the waitress that she appreciated the stuffed cabbage recommendation, also. On my way to wash my hands, I saw a couple at the bar with the wienerschnitzel. It looked perfect. The owner came over and we kept complimenting the food. He offered us a desert, on the house. I am not going to turn down free sweets, even though I was full! I told him to bring us what he thought was best. We were brought a white cake that had walnuts in it. It was super light, not too sweet, It had a nice nutty flavor to it. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but I would order it again. For once, i ordered a beer. I asked for the Munchen. Served in a frosted mug, it hit the spot. I’m already planning my next visit! Don’t miss out on this gem.

Update: From what I’ve tried do far, I have no complaints. The Alps Reuben on House Bread is truly underrated. This is a go-out-and-try-it-now sandwich. I don’t even care for bread but their house bread was plump in the middle and crispy on the edges. It might be tempting to get more traditional bread as your choice, but try this bread. It also doesn’t hurt that they carry CH Berres Riesling from Germany.

I discovered Alps Village by accident. I was on a road trip by myself to Flagstaff and had stopped at my dealership in Cathedral City on the way. I never go back the same way I came bec it is difficult to make a left turn coming out of the dealership and while I saw two Walgreen’s, a CVS and several grocery stores, I didn’t go back that way so while all I wanted were snacks, I ended up taking the scenic route thru Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, etc., going from a busy, major street to the suburbs of golf courses and country clubs with NO food places whatsoever! LOL I turned into the first shopping center/strip mall and saw Alps Village. I thought it was a deli, like a sandwich place, but turned out to be a German place and the only other German place I know of is the Jagerhaus in Anaheim. I LOVEBEEFSTROGANOFF and anything that resembles it, so… of course, I had to have the goulash! It was awesome! If I had just continued driving another half mile, I would have gotten to Washington Street which is where the entrance to the 10 was, as well as drug stores and other major shopping, and while I don’t need to be spending $ 40 on just myself for lunch, it was totally worth it(and I was on vacation!!!) I had also gotten an order of the sausage platter appetizer to go bec I had a long drive ahead of me and the waitress was SOOOONICE– she had the chef cut the sausages and included the dipping sauce containers, AND she also packed two waters to go, plastic ware, napkins, etc! It was seriously the best $ 40 lunch I’ve ever had!

Service was very good. Food was tasty. The owner was a nice guy. The ambience was cool. The lights were dim & softly lit the main seating area. I noticed that there were more lights at the bar. Seemed brighter there! Lots of wood & bricks. Haha… Let me explain… Cool wood planks & beams on the ceiling. Walls were made of bricks. Lighting fixtures & other pipes/ducting were exposed and a neat custom color… There were TV’s galore! Hehe :-) Only one bathroom to share between men/women. It was clean & cute. :) The Schnitzel was good. Came with mashed potatoes & sauerkraut. The bratwurst was delicious as was the Idyllwild Flatbread! The roasted potatoes that came with the bratwurst weren’t the best. To me, they were dry & didn’t have much seasoning on them. My husband liked them though. Haha. I heard that the Yugoslavian beer(or something) was really good even if you don’t like beer. Almost tried it. Maybe next time. Stuck with unsweetened iced tea… Fresh! I’d definitely go back! :-)
