Maria’s Alterations

What a rip off. I found this little shop as I wondered by after leaving my barber. I walked in and asked how much it would be to have a pair of slacks hemmed and the owner Maria told me $ 12. I asked it to be done in 2 days and she said no problem. I told her I would also be having my partner drop off his slacks as we were going to a wedding that weekend. She didn’t mention anything as a far as a different pricing. After he dropped off the slacks my partner called me confused that she quoted him $ 75. When I called her she mentioned that she would also need to take in his blazer. I reluctantly agreed. I sent a friend to pick it up the day off the wedding. When I got it not only were the pants horribly hemmed to the point that they both came undone within 2 hours of wearing them. The blazer wasn’t even altered. I called her upset that she collected the full money but didnt even do half the work and what she did do was a chop shop. She laughed and blamed it on me for not picking it up personally and checking before taking it. I asked her for a partial refund to which she laughed at and hung up on me. She ripped us off! Stay clear for your own good.

maria is awesome – she does excellent work and has excellent customer service – i have taken her every kind of alteration – she can do it all –her personality is fun and kind–

Maria’s is the bomb! I have had multiply pair of pants (overall length and also pockets length and adding of) altered at Maria’s. Each time my expectations were exceeded, by the quality of work, the time frame and best of all the price! I’ve been to other tailors before, but won’t be to any others as long as Maria’s is around!

She never has anything done on time.
At one point I waited 6 months for a sleeve to be fixed on a blouse.

I needed to get a dress taken in and a trim that I had already bought put on the dress. At first impression, the lady at Maria’s was willing to help and said it wasn’t going to be a problem. The USMC ball that I am attending was two and a half weeks away from the date that I went in. After telling her my situation and asking a couple times if she had a cost estimate and being ignored I got the dress fitted. While fitting my dress I asked again if she had an estimate, (keep in mind I was getting the dress taken in, she wasn’t adding any cloth except the trim that I had already bought and brought to her), she said «lemme think about it» and went to fit another girl. So I changed out of my dress and waited at the counter for her to finish the other lady. While she was fitting the other chick she gave me a scrap piece of paper to write my information on and hung my dress up in the back still without giving me a price. So I asked again when she returned from the hanging rack and she finally told me that it was going to cost about $ 200 to alter it. After just hearing the girl next to me’s price at $ 12 for a take in & hearing that adding a trim that I bought and was only going to go on the straps and a stripe accross for $ 188 more. After telling her that it was more than I paid for the dress, she reluctantly dropped the price to $ 170, being what I paid for the dress I was fed up and just wanted to leave so since she was still fitting the other girl I walked around the counter, grabbed my dress and walked out. My mother a former seamstress losing vision was furious when she saw the was that Marias was going to alter my gown. The lady had gathered all material to one side and every few inches put a saftey pin in. She then went along the bottom and took the liberty of pinning where she thought would look best for length. I then went to this little shop in cathedral city on ramon across from u-​haul to a lady that makes quincenera gowns and stuff from scratch. Same alteration, $ 145 CHEAPER, better service and quality. This lady had my dress done in 3 days. She even let me come back in to try it on when I finally found shoes and she did the bottom. I told her the first time I would just tip toe it, but she offered this for when I got shoes! Lovely lady, recommend her. NEVER GOING TO MARIAS EVER!!!
