Hertz Rent A Car

I have always been a fan of Hertz. It first happened when my employer, IBM, insisted that we use Hertz as the company car rental. I got used to it, and I still use them for business or pleasure. I have never had to wait more than three minutes at the counter, I have accumulated lots of reward points, and as a Gold Member (a small fee each year, and totally worth it), you breeze in and out of lines and returns.
Palm Springs International is about the easiest airport in the world in to get in and out of (except perhaps Yuma, AZ where they give you 15 minutes free parking). The cars are always clean and well maintained, and I always opt for the cheapest car when I rent, but often get an upgrade at the counter because they don’t have the compacts in stock. Oh well!
PRO TI{: In case anyone ever wants to drive to Mexico to get some dental work done and you don’t want to put those miles on your own car, or in my case, I wanted a smoother ride for that long drive to Los Algadones, I rented a car at PSP and here’s the way it works. You need special insurance to drive legally in Mexico (sometimes they ask you, sometimes they don’t), but for me it was totally worth it to buy the extra Mexico insurance. So I drove from Palm Springs to Yuma, AZ airport, dropped into the Hertz counter, and for $ 35, I had full coverage against any damage or theft in Mexico.
Totally worth it.
Of course nothing happened and my dental work which took most of the day, went great, but it was so nice to drive across the border and not have to walk in the heat (it was 114 in late June), and pull right up the the dental clinic and park for 5 hours without worrying about anything happening to the car.
Plus, since I was all doped up and out of it, walking back to the border would have been out of the question, so hopping into my Hertz car two steps from the dentist’s office was a real treat. Of course, my husband drove because I was out of it, but it was a fast, smooth ride back.
I will always go to Mexico this way for dental work or any other reason. Great job by all staff.
I was reading some of the low reviews for this Hertz. I feel bad for the woman who wrote the review where she was bypassed by the rude agent at Hertz. My suggestion next time that happens anywhere is to try the old, «Excuse me, I am next in line,» routine. The woman behind her wouldn’t have cared and the agent would have been chagrined and helped her next. I think it’s better to speak up in the moment, though not always easy. Especially when I’ve patiently waited by turn, I don’t let the agents, who probably don’t know the situation, make errors like that without being informed first.

I pretty much only rent from Hertz due to their gold service. It doesn’t cost anything to join up, and your car is ready and waiting for you. Most location you go directly to your car (unfortunately not at Palm Springs, but I was the only one in line so it was fast) and drive off. The longest part is getting out of the parking lot, all 30 seconds of it…

This is one of the best Hertz locations around. They are fast and efficient and the cars are in good condition and clean. And there is a great guy named «Nick» in the back office who goes the extra mile if you happen to leave something in the car. He was absolutely terrific. Go to Hertz in Palm Springs at the airport

They automatically added a $ 13.99 fuel charge since I had the car less than 24 hours. This was despite the fact that the car was full of gas and I showed the gas receipt to the service representative. I am now stuck trying to resolve the issue with Hertz. What a pain.

I got a rental from Palm Springs Airport and took it on a trip to Arizona and back and loved the car! It was a brand new Ford Civic hatchback and was great on gas mileage, drove great and was the best choice for lots of driving. Both renting and returning the car was super easy and everyone was great. I’m 24 so had to play the underage fee but it wasn’t to bad compared to other companies (this was $ 40). Would definitely recommend them!

Would give this location a big zero if I could. Every time, not sometime, every time we rent a car from this location they overcharge us. Every time. No matter how many times we complain to them, and each time they apologize and say it won’t happen again, it does. If it weren’t for a company policy, we would not use them. I am doing all that I can to get that changed. You have been warned.

I stood in line, patiently waiting to pick up the car I had reserved earlier. When I’m up next in line, the woman agent asks me to wait while she takes a car seat to the previous customer. So I’m still patient. But her co-​worker, a male agent, looks at me but doesn’t wait on me, he waits on the woman behind me. Frankly, she even looked shocked! I hope it’s not about race and he’s just the worst rental agent I’ve ever encountered. Now the Hertz brand is tainted for me. i cancelled the car and gladly paid a bit more for better service. I don’t spend money with hateful, rude people. And as a PR exec, I believe the companies they represent should care about that.

From the moment I arrived until the second I left, every interaction I had was flawless. The gentleman who greeted me, gave me keys and directions (Brent perhaps), was delightful, funny and informative. There was no wait, nothing unpleasant. Returning the car was just as easy as I was directed where to go, and everything was handled in the parking lot. The lady who inspected the car even pointed me in the direction to walk to get inside the airport (which was welcomed as I can be a tad challenged when it comes to directions). Hats off to this entire team. Well done!

The customer service rep David was lazy, B wanted me to call the 800# to deal with issue instead of calling his manager. The guy who checked my car in was GREAT!!! They need to get motivated employees outside to switch with the lazy David inside.

I received such outstanding service at this location yesterday! Brent and Henry particularly were so personable and accommodating… I actually set a reminder in my phone to make sure I remembered to write a review to thank them lol.
No wait times and friendly service (and gorgeous views outside)! If Palm Springs was closer to Los Angeles, this would be my only Hertz location.

There’s a lot to like about this Hertz location. But being lied to isn’t one of them.
We rented a very nice 2016 Kia Sportage. The car was great, had Satellite radio, two chargers, a USB port, and an audio jack. The Hertz desk is right in the airport and you can walk to your car with no shuttle or tram needed.
What really annoyed me was the misinformation given us as part of the sales pitch to accept the FPO, or Fuel Purchase Option. Basically, this gives you the option to prepay Hertz for that final full tank of gas you need to bring the car back with. The guy we dealt with said «with your AAA discount your price would be $ 2.75 a gallon and you’ll never find gas that cheap in Calfornia.»
That wasn’t true — we saw gas below $ 2.75 a lot and we saw gas in the $ 2.60’s a few times. But having accepted the FPO charge, we ended up being charged $ 41.02 for that final tank of gas. We definitely could have done better.
The sales rep could have talked about the convenience of pre-​paying at a competitive price, and that definitely would have had some merit. But stating a blatant untruth about the «lowest price in the state» is not an ethical business model. Shame on you, Hertz.

I was on a 10 day vaca and I got my car from this location and service was WONDerful and FrienDly! I made a stop at Hollister, CA to switch my current car because the gas gauge was broken and they switched fine BUT the Car had NO CRUISE CONTROL! I figured that out when I was already on the free way on my way to Dana Point, CA 6 hrs LATER! and I had a couple of more days left on my trip!!! The lady that did the switch for me should of informed me and also the mirror had to be adjusted manually with your had. At the end of my trip this location was also my drop off point. So they sent me a survey to take online and I gave them a bad comment! BUTTT! After JUST 30 MINS OF MY SURVEY THEY CALLED ME!!! WOOOOOOOWWWWWW! They apologized for bad service from that location and helped me out for next time! I love this Company now for the WOnderful and Caring service from this LOCATION!!! I will definitely go back there and recommend this company to anyone! And it wasn’t Corporate that Called me it was possible a GM from this location! XOXOX TO THIS LOCATION! I’ve never had service this good in my life after a bad review people usually don’t care now these days.

When a Enterprise totally hosed me by over selling their cars even though I had a confirmed reservation, Hertz took me in and gave me a car. For that I am eternally grateful. Go with Hertz. They won’t screw you like Enterprise.

Amazing service! I had made a reservation with a different company but they wanted a credit card and wouldn’t take a debit card or even cash! So I went next door to Hertz and Henry assured me they could help me. Found me the same car at an even better price and even wished me happy birthday. We like to travel a lot and Hertz and Henry just won a new lifetime customer.

Either I just have bad luck with Hertz, or they have pervasive service problems. I am an Avis preferred renter — but this trip the United website offered me a car rental deal when I booked airfare, so I took it. I arrive at the airport and got to the Hertz desk and saw employees manually writing up forms to serve customers. Their computers were down. Really?
I waited until eventually it was my turn. Showed the agent my reservation on the phone, days, the small SUV car, etc. I waited as she wrote up the form, went in the back, came back out, asked for my signature, options, etc. I asked her what car she gave me, and she said a Toyota Corolla — so all that time not even close to the car I reserved.
I said no thanks, walked to the Avis counter 10 feet away — in minutes had a Jeep Cherokee for less then the small SUV would’ve cost at Hertz.
Hertz just continues to let me down over and over. Eventually I’ll learn my lesson.

Great rental experience.
Vehicle was ready to go when we landed. We had the keys in hand before our luggage even came!
The van was clean. Everything worked.
The best part was the Never Lost GPS system! That device is awesome for travelers. It was FREE! Bonus. But best part you could use it as a tour guide. We were in San Diego. We wanted to find a good beach. So we just searched beach and it brought up all the beaches in the area. Each location had a short video clip describing the location. Amazing. We found a great beach to go to which absolutely was the highlight of our day. We would not have found it on our own.
Because of this Never Lost gps feature, we will always use Hertz when traveling in the USA!
Also the drop off at the Palm Springs airport was seemless! Jimmy met us in the lot. He was so friendly. Made sure we had all our stuff. Told us to leave our garbage he would take care of it. And with 5 kids there was some garbage! then he took our final vacation picture. You know the one where everyone is crying because they have to leave sunny CA and return to freezing calgary. Anyway highly recommend Hertz at the Palm Springs airport.

update: i called christmas eve to try to find my garage opener that i think i left behind in my rental car. I spoke to someone named Nick I believe and he was kinda enough to look for my clicker to no avail since there were several other clickers similar to mine, but i really appreciated that he spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me trying to hunt down my reservation number and my clicker. :)

After having AAA make the a reservation for me (and pay for the first day) This fine establishment charged me for roadside assistance (which I obviously already have since AAA is the one that made and paid for it initially) I will freely admit I did not look at the contract close enough and signed because I needed to get home (2 hours away)
After reviewing after the fact what I was being charged for, I attempted to call the number to «Extend or change a rental» where I was informed I would have to return to the rental counter to sign a new contract. So as part of the great customer service, I would have to make a 4 hour trip to change.
When returning the car, no one was in the parking lot to greet me, take down mileage, or anything like that. Just a sign saying «note mileage, gas tank, time, and take keys to counter» Due to the long drive and extra traffic, I was 20 mins late getting the car there. After waiting in line, I gave the person behind the counter the keys. He asked how it was, I replied «eh, it was okay» to which he had no reply.
I just wanted to pick up my normal car from the shop and get out of there, so I didn’t make any fuss about being charged for things I didn’t need. I was also charged for being «late» even though for all they know, I had the car parked in the parking lot for the last few hours since no one was there to verify it.
Long story short, car was fine, but they missed out on a lot of places to provide good customer service, and the fact that I can’t add /​subtract things to the reservation without visiting the rental place in person is flat out annoying.

Horrible service and line management.
When we arrived, we stood in the regular check in line which was three deep. Not too bad. There was one person in the gold member line and two hertz employees at the desk.
Then slowly more people started to come and trickled into the gold line. Another agent came out to assist checking people out, BUT all three only helped the gold line. The first person in our line asked if anyone was going to help our line, but was told the gold line took priority. Which meant we had to wait for all ten parties in the gold line to finish before we would be helped.
The lady first in our line went over to Avis next counter over and was told they would match her price for hertz. So she jumped ship. The next group saw this and jumped ship also. Which brought us to the front. Still had to wait for the gold line to finish tho.
Got our car and a crappy baby seat which we received no assistance in installing.
Good news: car didn’t break down.
Fast forward three days to returning the car. I sent my wife in immediately to do paperwork cuz who knows how long that would take. She stood with our baby in the «express» return line but was ignored by the counter people who continued to help the other lines and of course the gold line. So she went to the other line which of course had to wait for the gold line to be exhausted in order to take the 90 seconds to process the return.
Ridiculous line management, service, and pretty dirty car. I hope all Hertz are not like this one.

After having a horrible experience with Avis, I was eager to give Hertz a shot. It didn’t hurt that my ABA membership gave me a discount.
Every single part of the rental went smoothly. I set up the rental online. At the airport the rep was crystal clear about all the charges and how paying for gas could work. Getting the car was painless and checking it in was very quick.
I will be using Hertz again and probably will exclusively in Palm Springs.
