Robolights

Robolights is such a cool and different experience. I took my family there this past year and I loved it! The whole place is like a big work of art. I love the fact that they donate the proceeds to charities in the valley. I think this is going to be a new tradition for us.

A fun kooky plce to spend an evening. Certainly a one of a kind experience.

Robolights has got to be the weirdest, coolest, most fascinating seasonal display that one can take in during the Christmas holiday season!
You may have seen photos and videos or Robolights, but they simply don’t do it justice. Awe inspiring gigantic robots, statues, structures and much, much more, some weighing in at dozens of tons, tower over you as you walk though what feels like another world. It’s easy to forget that this is simply a very large residential back yard with (apparently) very understanding neighbors.
Even though everything is built from found/​donated objects, this «world» is surprisingly immaculately clean and organized. You can tell that everything was put together with specific intent.
I had the rare opportunity to meet Kenny Irwin Jr. (the artist), and as you might imagine, he’s quite an eccentric dude. And although he seems to be more tied to the world of Robolights than the world we live in, having the excitement, energy, and imagination that you’d usually association with a child, he’s super nice and very intelligent. I bought one of his smaller art pieces, and proudly display it on my desk!
At a mere $ 5 suggested donation, Robolights is well worth the trip to Palm Springs from LA or OC for ALL ages! It’s amazing!

Think of a parade of lights meets Nightmare before Christmas. It’s not scary whatsoever. You’ll be amazed by the artist’s work and what he created with the materials used. Strange but creative. Plus this is in a residential area, crazy. There are even pieces that are interactive. Plus it’s on 4 acres so there’s a lot to see. Definitely a must if you are in Palm Springs for the holidays.

This weirdo-​factory is my kind of place … and I went during the day.
I also made friends with the resident cat, who was gracious enough to be my tour guide throughout the property. The little guy never left my side. What can I say? I’m single and in my early 30s, cats just know they belong with me.
This place is too cool to pass up. If you’re driving by Palm Springs, you need to take a side trip on your way. Trust me. If you don’t have a good time, you are a loser in need of an education in fun. Bye.

One of the strangest light shows you will ever see, but also a must see while in town. They charge a donation minimum of $ 2.00 pp and worth it. Someone had mentioned Tim Burton design mind when describing it. It takes a different mind set to create this but you won’t see anything like it anywhere else. I call it a maniac with money– in the nicest sense

Amazing art installation — the Christmas lights add to the wonder, wild and weird. Definately a must see!

One of my favourite Christmas traditions is to visit this fabulous art installation. This huge estate has been transformed into an amazing museum of the wild and wired (yes wired) display of creative imagination a its best. For a small donation of 5 $ which you will get to watch go down the drain before your eyes, make sure to visit after dark to enjoy the festive colours and displays.

Great exhibit. My kids (12 and 10) loved it over the holidays. The artist was there and was very outgoing. And good for him to shut down the whiner on Unilocal

We came to robolights a few weeks ago after hearing amazing reviews. My parents took me and my 3 year old. It was such a beautiful and interesting walk of just artwork. It was a unique experience, and my son loved it. My dad wore shorts, and sucked it up to complete this amazing journey. They had a $ 5 donation which we had no problem paying for each of us. We are actually taking my fiancé tonight to see. All 5 of us! Thank you for continuing this.

Absolutely the most amazing light show you will ever see but it is do much more than just lights.
The artist is so creative and the entire location us amazing.
You need to walk around a few times because every time you will see something you missed. It is so fun and so pretty.
I was lucky enough to meet the artist who is a young and gracious person.
This place is definitely a must do if you get the chance!

Wow just, wow. I have been to modern art museums and installations in the us, Canada, and Europe this by far blew my mind.
The sheer magnitude, weirdness, and creativity is mind boggling. The senses and perceptions are challenged by something different literally every second.
Its uncomfortable, joyful, awkward, ugly, amusing, annoying, aggravating, amazing, all at the same time.
I recommend going during the holidays and and if you partake in extra curricular things for your mind please do here! ;)

What an absolutely unique, mind blowing experience. My team had the pleasure of touring Kenny Irwin Jr’s amazing world of Robolights!
You are welcomed in through the gate, a suggested donation of $ 5.00 is definitely not much for what you are about to see. Get ready to get your mind blown. From a ton of lights, to transformers, to microwaves in microwaves, to 50 feet tall robots and much more you will come out of this place with your jaw wide open. The talent and the time that Kenny has taken to create these sculptures shows just how much he loves what he does.
After walking through we were met outside the gate by the talented artist. He invited us into his home and let us see more of his artwork, some featured on Conan. He also has some on sale and a few of my coworkers ended up buying some of his pieces. Such a great way to end the night and get that up close and personal one on one time with the artistic genius himself.
Definitely a must see!

A whole lot of awesome and important to note this is the holiday overlay and open house to visit and see the year-​round and ever growing display of Kenny Irwin Jr.‘s artwork. Enjoy the lights and wondrous spectacle but also enjoy the work of this amazing artist.

So, I’ve had the privilege of touring Kenny Irwin Jr’s Robolights display and absolutely loved it! I was in town with the boyfriend for the Thanksgiving weekend, mind you its been years since I’ve visited Palm Springs so I researched things to see and do before heading there. I came across «Robolights» as a must see, did a little research, and decided to make it happen. Heres thoughts:
If I had to encompass a description of what you’ll find here, I’d say it is definitely a backyard recycled material/​mixed media ART exhibit. It is a massive maze of extremely creative sculptures made with lights, microwaves, mannequins, shopping carts and toilets to name a few things… yes I said toilets. When you walk in, you walk into a fantasy world of twisted imagination a little on the dark side. I would NOT call this a Christmas decorated lights display so if that is what you are expecting, you will probably be either disappointed or offended. I’ve read some of the reviews before visiting and could not fathom how anyone could give Robolights any less than 5 stars. Even if you were expecting a traditional good old run of the mill Christmas lights display you can’t deny the talent of Kenny. He has something kinda genius in that head of his. He’s created the juxtaposition of a the happy feelings you get from say the Easter bunny, or Santa Clause and mixed it with uneasy feelings you get from things like skulls, scary clowns and trippy mannequins wearing gas masks. If you love the happy memories from you childhood, but also love all things post apocalyptic, twisted fantasy, dark macabre, YOU WILL LOVE THIS! I think I will have to return annually just to see anything I’ve missed this time and anything new that Kevin conjures up to add to his absolutely wonderful unique escape from reality. There is absolutely nothing on this planet like it. Keep an open mind take it all in, its worth it!

There was no end to the wonder of Kenny’s amazing mind displayed for all to enjoy. Every corner turned, I found myself in aw and every year has new installations that are always exciting to see! A must see in Palm Springs if you are in our fun little town

I love kitsch and have little kids (6 ½). I was excited to stumble upon this seasonal event, less than a mile from our hotel in PS. Gotta say, I was disappointed. Probably because I thought it would be more of a seasonal holiday lights display.
Instead we encountered a rather creepy collection of assemblage «found objects» type of art. There is definitely an artistic vision, and the result is not less odd than «legitimate» art I’ve seen in fine museums. Still, not my cup of tea. Again, not sure what I wanted to find, but my kids were pretty freaked out and wanted to leave. Did not inspire holiday cheer and would have been better as a Halloween spectacle.
Christmas + Halloween = Robolights

9M is a mind bending experience (lłmay change the way you regard traditional holiday light displays. Part holiday experience, part artistic offering, part indictment (perhaps unintended) against consumer excess. It’s a not-​to-​be-​missed celebration. November 25-​Mid December. My wife and I had the distinct pleasure and honor to have an exclusive, personal and behind the scenes tour of Kenny Irwin’s mystical, magical and unique Christmas /​Holiday display.
Strange, over the top, most intriguing, and other words like that can only begin to describe this fantastic display, set on 4 acres of his family home. It took well over 2 hours to see the display.
There are ** SO ** many things to see, and the attention to details is phenomenal. Kenny is talented beyond the ordinary for sure. Everything you see here are things that he visualizes in his head — and then he creates them without any drawings or sketches, no prototype designs or anything. He just does it. I would guess that 90−95% of the display is reused and recycled materials, but there are some elements (cement, expanding foam, and more) that are of course store bought.
If you are ever in Palm Springs, I ** HIGHLY** recommend that you look him up and either tour the display on your own, or try to arrange a private tour. It will be well worth your time. His unique background, philosophy and artistic talent mix itself.

My friends and I visited this place today, upon arriving we see this sign saying there is no admission fee but would appreciate a $ 5 donation. We were happy to pay the fee but there were no staff/​family members to collect our money. We figured this was fine and continued through the exhibit as normal. About halfway through, a man who I’m assuming is Kenny, came to me and kept aggressively asking if I had contributed $ 5. Since we didn’t end up having cash, he insisted we follow him into the house where he said he had a credit card terminal to pay with. Coming into the house, it turns out he takes credit card on his cell phone. He took pictures of both sides of my friend’s credit card instead of swiping it– big red flag, we immediately went to the bank and cancelled the card– after the transaction went through he finally started acting friendly towards us.
Although the art is very interesting, I can not get past the fact that this dude posted a false statement at the entrance to his exhibit. I wouldn’t recommend coming here unless you have cash, and apparently you have to search him down for your donation unless you want a creepy shirtless man finding you in a corner filled with junk robots.
