As I am moving towards a vegan diet, I’ve been struggling to prepare foods that are tasty and was searching Unilocal for vegetarian restaurants for ideas when this place popped up. Gourmet vegan dinners are served every Monday night starting at 6:30pm, and they are delicious! It’s a full meal with soup and dessert and tea for only $ 18. If you can’t stay for the sit down meal, you can have the meal packaged for you to pick up. The people are friendly. Community seating. Come give it a try and sit with me!

I found this place through Unilocal and met up with my best friend here for a Monday night dinner. I debated getting takeout for a picnic, since the weather was nice, but I thought we should go for the full experience, at least the first time. Make sure you call by 9:30am the morning of the dinner to reserve a spot. It’s $ 15/person, pay at the door. I was expecting it to feel like a kind of hippie atmosphere, and it kind of was that way. Everyone was super welcoming and nice. There are a lot of regulars who all know each other, so it’s a nice community of people who are very environmentally friendly and conscious of what they put into their bodies. I have to admit, though. the atmosphere reminded me of when I used to serve homeless dinners in a church, but everything was very clean. We started with a warm garbanzo bean soup that had bits of carrots and onion in it. It was very hearty and satisfying. very filling with all the garbanzo beans. For the main dinner, we had a lightly dressed local tomato and mixed green salad, a summer vegetable moussaka, a brown rice and cabbage pilaf, and steamed cauliflower. The moussaka was my favorite. I’m not sure if they used a nut cheese or tofu cheese, but it was creamy and hearty. The squash underneath was also very sweet and fresh, and this was the highlight of the dinner. The extra sauce was perfect over the rice, which had a nice bite to it. For dessert, we had pieces of «honey cake» at the table, topped with sliced almonds for a nice crunch. The cake itself was moist and not overly sweet. They’re pretty good about portioning things out, so there’s very little left over. What’s left over is up for grabs, though. I was expecting for the servings to be small, but they actually plate up huge portions of everything. Plus, all the fiber gets to be pretty filling. Tip: bring your own to go container and take home your leftovers, since they don’t provide any because it’s not environmentally friendly. Definitely a very different experience. Not bad for $ 15. very innovative recipes using fresh ingredients, and you walk out feeling very full but not overly heavy.

I’ve eaten two meals from the Peninsula Macrobiotic Community. They were both wonderful. The food is tasty and fresh. I ate in for the first time on 6÷28÷10. It was great to meet others in the community.

I have been going to these dinners for several years now. A couple of my best friends, I met through these dinners. Gary is a very good cook, sticks to the macrobiotic principles but does it with a gourmet touch. Now there is a meetup to help make the reservation easier. You have to make a reservation to enjoy the Monday nite dinner because they need to know how many people to cook for — they always make a bit over so sometimes you can get in last minute. It is all worth it

The food is always delicious, healthy, and varied for a reasonable price. It’s also nice to see such a wide variety of people come together. Everyone is friendly, it’s just a very positive vibe. Free lectures some nights.

Since I am always on the lookout for healthy and tasty take-out, I decided to check this place out after reading deb n.‘s review. I actually sent my hubby here on his way home from work to pick up the food but same difference. Hubby is trying to eat super healthy so getting take-out has been difficult lately because I want the food palatable as well. Luckily, the take-out meals here are a win-win in my book. We’ve ordered it twice(and picking one up tonight) and each time the food has been yummy, hearty, and healthy. Unfortunately, there’s no chance in hell one of our kids will eat this stuff but you can’t have it all. If we both aren’t super hungry, we can split one meal and be perfectly satisfied. The monthly menus are listed on the website and there seems be to a lot of variety and interesting dishes. We’ll probably be picking up take-out from here on most Mondays.

Went on 10⁄5 Monday and had the following menu and listened to a macrobiology speaker. October 5 White Bean, Leek and Onion Soup Butternut Squash Savory Bread Pudding Quinoa-Corn Salad Steamed Broccoli with Red Onion Dressing Mixed Green Salad Poached Pears with Whipped Tofu Cream Tea Kukicha Verne Varona speaks on Macrobiotics for Dummies — A 21st Century Multi-Cultural Approach Toward Body, Mind & Spirit Health First time to dine in, have been ordering to go. Went with some friends and we all met up there, one was a meat eater and the other a vegetarian and both were pleased. Street parking was packed at 6:30pm. Had to park a couple of blocks away. Paid, signed in and got a table, excellent turnout, around 90 people, I think because of the lecturer who was very good and dynamic and entertaining. Picked up our soup and took it to the table and met our tablemates. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, you can tell the old timers because they have their own name badges. Then your table is assigned a number to wait in line to be served. Volunteers were asked to help serve the meal, buffet style. A trivia game was played to decide who would be the first table to go up. My friend gave the correct answer, so we got up first… score! Around 7:50pm announcement is made that the presenter Verne would speak and to bus your own tables and first 4 tables are broken down by everyone and chairs setup for the presentation. Even though the lecture was to end by 9pm, there were so many questions, we stayed til 9:20pm. Donation/pass the hat was requested for the speaker, $ 5 – 10 pp. A great meal, met new nice people and learned more about macrobiotics and health. Pretty good for $ 15.

I found this Monday Night dinner through a Yahoo group and I’ve been going for several years now. The first time I went I was hesitant to go on my own and yet I was welcomed by one of the organizers who quickly introduced me to several other people. I found myself at a table with a variety of interesting people. I’ve made great friendships and I enjoy connecting with everyone over a meal. Don’t let«vegan» and«macrobiotic» scare you away. The food is great and varies each week. The soups that start each dinner are wonderful and I’m always amazed at the main course items. Now, if I could only cook this way at home!

I go to these Monday dinners quite regularly and I enjoy them a lot. For $ 15, you get a very healthy and delicious meal, all vegan, mostly organic, and prepared with macrobiotic principles in mind. More than just a dinner, it is a very nice community of people. It’s not the place for a romantic date, but it’s a great place to meet health-oriented people. Sometimes a health or food-related lecture is scheduled after dinner. The complete details including this week’s menu are available on the website, or by calling the phone number(24-hour recorded message). They ask for reservations by 9:30AM so that they will know how many people to expect, but if you just show up at 6:30 you will probably be welcome to join in.
