Gyros Gyros is a little Mediterranian place on University Ave in Downtown Palo Alto. Food 3⁄5 I ordered the chicken gyros plate. The plate come with lots of shreds of chicken and a large helping of salad and rice. The chicken was a little too salty for me, but that’s just my personal preference. The rice was good but the salad was extremely bitter. I also tried their baklava which was amazing!!! You HAVE to try when you come. Cleanliness 4.5÷5 Restaurant is pretty clean. They have a health inspection report score of 93⁄100 with no major violations. Summary: great little no frill’s place. Would definitely come here again. TRYTHEBAKLAVA!!!

I’ve been eating here for 15+ years and I’ve NEVER gone away feeling unsatisfied or like I paid too much. No, this isn’t top-of-the-line gourmet food but the quality and consistency is rock-solid. Get the gyro chicken salad for a perfect low-carb lunch. Incredibly generous amounts of perfectly grilled chicken that always tastes like it just came off the grill. Wonderful, light dressing. Some of the best hot sauce I’ve ever had a middle-eastern place. The eggplant salad is another low-cal, low-carb favorite, surprisingly satisfying and very reasonably priced. Ditto with the hummus plate. The interior is always clean with a very relaxed atmosphere. This place is sort of on the edge of downtown, just barely far enough removed from the downtown Palo Alto bullshit to feel a lot more relaxed. Easy parking in the public garage just across Cowper street. Easy outdoor seating. Great for people-watching. Enjoy!

Pretty torn. There are some things I really like here, and other components are just meh. Gonna go ahead and give it the four because what I do like here, I’m willing to get often. Their gyros is probably where you have to start. For both the lamb/beef and chicken — they’re decent, ranging from average to pretty good, but are not the best in their field. They have a good seasoning to them, but are blander than some of the more universally praised versions. Also I did find the meat to be oilier than a lot of others’. They give a good portion and I’m happy with that. Also the rice. I’m not really sure why I care that much, but I’m in love of places that give you the pilaf with the yellow rice and the noodles. You have that here, and with the side order you can order two scoops, haha. Other perspectives: the salad isn’t really memorable and I’m just not a fan of the lavash wraps. I just don’t think they’re filling compared to pita and they might get soggy depending on long your takeout ride is home. They do serve you pita with the combo plate and hummus, but it’s on the thinner drier side and would work even less as the wrap. I’m going have to stick to my meat plates. If there were an option for just meat and a side I would take it, but otherwise takeout is solid and they open relatively late for counter service University Avenue. It is a little more expensive for okay food, which is why I have to ding it down to 3. Okay food and friendly staff.

Ordered and split a Lamb & Beef Gyros wrap and Shish Kebab Plate Food: 2 Stars The wrap was really dry, but I eventually found all the sauce at the bottom. I call this the burrito effect. We were super glad they had hot sauce on the table because I don’t think we would have finished the food otherwise. Both dishes were quite bland. There were also little noodle bits mixed into the rice. So random. Also, the food was warm, but not hot if that makes sense. Atmosphere: 4 Stars Sitting outside in Palo Alto is really nice. Indoors, there’s a deli counter-ish deal where you order. This place was packed on a weekend afternoon around 3PM. The bathroom is really clean and up the stairs. Value: 2 Stars The food is on the expensive side for the amount of food you’re getting. Portion size is pretty small and both dishes came out to about $ 25 Service: 3 Stars Service was average. Lady was neither friendly, nor rude. Overall: 2 Stars I wouldn’t come here again and really wouldn’t recommend this place to any of my friends. It gets the job done if you really need a gyro fix though.

This place good. A solid 3 stars. They make their sandwiches on lavash. Which is unique and I like it so much better than pita. Although they do serve pita with other dishes. The falafel is really good, is well seasoned and seems to be authentic Israeli style. All gyro places serve this big slab of ground stuff that they slice off the spit sold by Mykonos, I think it’s called. But here, you can get a gyro with both the Mykonos and fresh lamb. That’s what I tried and it was so tasty. There were a few issues. First of all, I asked for tahina. What they gave me was a seasoned yogurt sauce. I don’t like to do dairy and that’s not tahina, which is made from sesame. The sandwiches were also a little dry, possibly from the bread and lack of tahina. The tomatoes were also not ripe. They are out of season, so it’s probably better to just not serve them at all. I think if I go back, I will have them make me a vegetarian sandwich with the eggplant in tomato sauce, hummos and taboule.

Decent fast food. We had Adana wrap and gyro plate. Both were pretty good. They used fresh vegetables. I didn’t care for the sauce. The owner was nice, we will try the desserts next time.

Do not eat here. The meat was undercooked and the salad dressing seemed to have long expired. My mother ate a small amount before realizing the off taste and still got severe food poisoning a few hours later. Anecdotally, I have always found these Mediterranean restaurants to be rather lax in their health/cleanliness policies, this one just further confirms that suspicious.

If you are looking for a quick Mediterranean bite to eat that doesn’t totally empty out your wallet this is as good as it gets on University! They have tasty dishes with fresh ingredients that are well proportioned. Coming from Chicago I am extremely picky about my gyros. And although these are nontraditional as they more closely relate to the burrito — the ingredients are very authentic. We recently catered with them via a third party vendor and they did a GREAT job! Great presentation, great flavors and it was popular among the masses!

Nice lunch place if you want something healthy and fresh. I love the kebab plate. I usually get my food to-go. It gets crowded at lunch since it’s a pretty small place. The food is a combination of mediterranean, greek and turkish so it can be a little odd as far as how they prepare things. Overall it’s casual and the prices are decent. If you pay with cash they give you a little discount.

Good food. Bad service. The girl behind the counter couldn’t care less. Too busy chatting with her friends that were hanging around.

This place is garbage and calling this a gyro is shameful. The meat is chopped up chunks of dog food with a sauce that tastes like flavorless snot. Really bad food.

In the middle of University Ave, this is a bit of a different vibe from the usual fast food. Nice environment with a pleasant girl behind the till. Clean bathrooms upstairs always a bonus. In the UK, schwarmas are the end of the drinking night meal, for that alcohol soaking experience. These were ordered and prepared in front of us. I ordered 2; the chicken gyro and the triple meat combo(chicken, lamb, beef) and to be honest I’ve had worse and I’ve had better. There was too much wrap in relation to the meat, so I felt like I was carbo loading more than enjoying the protein. The meat was not greatly spiced and there wasn’t much inside apart from some tzatziki. The feta pie was much better and the baklava looked decent but I didn’t try it. A little overpriced for the quality but maybe it was a busy night. With a bit more effort on the gyros it could be better. I mean, for goodness sake, it’s in the name. Twice.

The best alternative to a burrito. Better tasting, healthier, decent price, and a fair size. The seafood is also surprisingly fresh

A simple Mediterranean restaurant in Downtown Palo Alto, perfect for a quick and easy meal. I ordered the #18, a combo beef/lamb/chicken gyro, and it was delightful! It was stuffed full with meat and veggies and it definitely filled me up, but it wasn’t too heavy and I didn’t feel like I was going to explode, which I have definitely experienced with gyros before. I wanted to touch specifically on the lamb — I know a lot of people aren’t fans of lamb meat, as there’s a strong flavor to it that some may not enjoy, but it never bothered me. I always pay attention to this because my mom really hates that taste, but in this particular case, I didn’t really notice it, even though I’m not picky about it. Maybe it’s because there are so many other flavors in the gyro, but just thought I’d put it out there anyway for those of you who are usually a little more sensitive to it. :) The ordering process felt rushed; the guy behind the counter started taking the next guy’s order when I was still signing my credit card receipt. And then, ironically enough, the food took a long time to come out. But still 4 stars because I really enjoyed my gyro!

I LOVED Gyros Gyros since the first time that I came here about a year ago. I would switch between the veggie wrap and falafel wrap and my friend, who has loved this place since he was in college about 10 years ago, would always get the lamb and beef wrap. Anytime we would be in the area, we would try to stop to enjoy our favorite wraps! However, today is a different story. My friend noticed immediately what was wrong. They’re using tortillas now and it’s not as awesome as it used to be. We weren’t as satisfied as we have been in the past. So sad. Hopefully, this is only a temporary change and they will go back to their original ingredients. Until then, I don’t think we’ll be as excited to come here.

I thought this place was okay, my boyfriend that it was amazing. We both have pretty bland taste buds and have a love for mediterranean food. Whlie it suited my boyfriend’s taste buds, it did not for me as I thought it was missing some spice. The meat was delicious and moist but like I said, my lamb wrap was missing… something. I drenched my wrap in the«hot» sauce on the side and I still don’t understand what this«hot» sauce it, it was like a mild salsa really. I’m a little disappointed with my lunch here. We noticed other patrons had kebab plates and they looked like they ordered kids meals. For a few bucks more, I’d go to The Kebab House in Fremont and get myself a large plate of delicious, flavorful food for much larger portions. The owner was prompt and nice. No complaints with the owner or the rest of the staff.
