He’s rude, arrogant and gets intimidating even if you are having a respectful conversation about something. Just suddenly it seems he goes off the deep end and starts to get very agitated. I’d find someone else.

Outstanding orthopedic doctor. After surveying a couple of local joint specialists my wife chose Dr. Lannin for her knee and hip replacement surgeries. Results have been excellent — the surgeries went very well and the post surgical care recommendations(in-home and physical therapy) were very effective. Dr Lannin was caring and listened well, and is very experienced in joint replacement. He’s busy — he does 4 – 5 joint procedures daily at Stanford Hospital. As a side note we found Stanford a very good place for orthopedic surgery. They have a dedicated orthopedic unit with orthopedic-trained nursing staff and good post-surgical physical therapy care. We would recommend Dr Lannin to anyone in need of orthopedic surgery, and joint replacement in particular.

I had recent knee replacement surgery with Dr. James Hartford(who works with Dr. Lannin and is wonderful) and Dr. Lannin was covering for him today when I had to call for a medication refill. Due to the nature of the medication and because it was a holiday, Dr. Lannin had to physically write the prescription rather than call it in. Because he had to do this small task, he yelled at me over the phone for several minutes as if I was an eight year old until I was sobbing.

I tried many alternatives(physical therapy, injections, anti-inflammatories, etc.) prior to electing knee replacement. Both knees were bone to bone, my leg alignment on both legs contributed to the wear and tear and the pain. I was always physically active and kept my weight down prior to my knee problems. As my knee deterioation escalated it resulted in pain, inability to stand, exercising, performing normal activities, and weight gain. I decided to pursue knee replacement and researched knee replacements thoroughly(both types of replacements as there are many, surgeons, hospitals, and referrals from medical professionals). I met with several surgeons and decided to proceed with Dr. Lannin. He replaced one knee in May 2011 and the other Dec. 2011. He is an extremely patient, respectful, knowledgeable surgeon. He is open and honest(what he can and cannot accomplish, risks, etc.) given your medical situation. He is respected by staff and rehabilitation therapists. I had a complicated medical history and he and his PA Liza Carpenter took every precaution to ensure my surgery would proceed as safely as possible. They communicated with my other specialists because of my existing medical conditions so everyone was in agreement on how to proceed. The aftercare I received was remarkable. Results: I have lost 30 lbs, I am physically active and stronger and my legs are aligned! In closing, Dr. Lannin will not tell you what you want to hear, he will tell you what he believes to be the best plan of action given your medical situation. I am extremely pleased with the results and would highly recommend Dr. Lannin and his PA Liza.
