A number of things here are pretty good, from the dim sum to the more traditional dishes. They also have a soft fried tofu here that was delicious. If you are coming here for just food, it really is not a bad — albeit it is a bit overpriced. But the service here is really terrible. They are not friendly to kids at all, and you can see it in all of their faces. When my toddler was walking around, they did not bother to try to be careful around her, and walked right by as if she was a nuisance. If I am going to pay a premium for Chinese food, I would expect better service. More importantly, if you are especially protective of your kids, like me, you might fear that the waiters and waitresses accidentally hurt them from complete lack of care.

We decided on Tai Pan for my brother’s birthday as we had been before and really enjoyed the food. We made a reservation on OpenTable and were seated promptly when we arrived. Tip– there is a parking lot right next to the restaurant! They have an extensive dim sum menu and a regular restaurant menu. We ordered 2 sets of steamed BBQ pork buns and a set of the Shrimp rice noodle rolls. Delicious! We also ordered the Walnut Shrimp, General chicken, and 3 bowls of rice. Unfortunately they don’t have brown rice :(Regardless, the food was absolutely delicious and the service was good. Only thing was that we had to keep trying to find someone to refill our water glasses but the food was great and we will definitely be back for more!

Food good, but limited. Service bad. We had a variety of dim sum and one noodle dish. I found the menu a bit limited for both dim sum and other items. They serve from a menu not on carts like I was used to. I like the anticipation of looking at a cart and seeing what I want to try. I missed that here. Hostesses were awful. We had a reservation and it still took 15 minutes to get a table. They were not friendly and worse not communicative. We asked to move tables and she disappeared for an extended period of time then just told us to move and pointed to a new table. I am sure we were being punished. Do not order a bar drink. While our waiter was nice and did a fairly good job, there was no bartender. My bloody mary took a very long time and was just tomato juice with maybe some vodka, not sure.

Food was good. Service, omg. We waited 40 min. for food. Yeah, it was good, but it’s dim sum, it shouldn’t be that slow. It’s one of the few dim sum places in the area, so they seem to not try that hard. And it’s super expensive. We ordered 6 dishes, and it was like a $ 60 bill. For 2 people.

Delightful experience ! I really enjoyed the dim sum dishes & service overall ! I understand the price is a little high vs other dim sum restaurants but I can tell the chef & the owners put a lot of love into the food. The quality is good and it really shows. I think it will be nice to visit this place to have a nice cup of Chinese tea & some delightful dim sum.

Pricy and not for a good reason. Not any better than other Chinese restaurants I have been in.

I like the food here. The dim sum is quite good. However, the price is a little bit high comparing to the other places in the area.

Labor and rent must be expensive because the items are pricey! Went here for dimsum. The quality is pretty good, but the choices are not plentiful. There are no unique dimsum dishes, so I’m not impressed. Ambience is nice, things are very clean, and the noise level is low enough that conversations can be held without increasing your voice(pretty rare for a Chinese restaurant). I would come again if I were in the neighborhood, craving dimsum, and too lazy to drive further, but will definitely not purposely come here.

2.5 stars for food. Rounding up due to lack of dim sum options in the area. A and I were craving dim sum on a Sunday morning… but being too lazy to trek over to Daly City, we decided to try Tai Pan on a whim. I went in with the appropriate expectations — average food and high prices. In this case, Tai Pan definitely met expectations lol. Service and ambiance were above average. The hostess and waiters were friendly to non-english speakers, and I saw them greet many regulars by name. Our wait was around 30 minutes at noon without a reservation, not bad. They also offer dim sum reservations on Open Table… major bonus points. No traditional dim sum cart service though. Unfortunately, the food was nothing to write home about. The Chicken Potstickers were on par with the frozen Ling Ling ones my mom would buy in bulk from Costco. The XLB had little to no soup, though the flavor wasn’t bad. The Gai Lan was super oily, and the smallest portion I’ve ever seen for $ 10. Pork Spare Ribs were super stringy and fatty. I enjoyed the Meat & Chive Dumplings, and the Turnip Puffs were okay. Tai Pan gets the job done in a pinch but is certainly no Koi Palace.

We came here for a wedding banquet. The service was efficient. The seafood was fresh. The portions were small.

Love their chicken feet in black bean sauce dimsum. One of the best ones I’ve tried in the bay. I went here alot for dimsum as there are rarely any waiting line maybe it was contributed by the high price here. This restaurant definitely have higher price than other dimsum place I’ve been but they also look alot cleaner. There are not that much variety in their dimsum menu but it is good enough for me. Their lunch and dinner menu is pretty good also but the price are pretty high!

As much as I wished that they did the traditional Dim Sum service with the carts so that I could have food ASAP(truth), this place is pretty great. You fill out a menu card with how many of each dish that you want and they bring it to you incrementally. All of the food is wonderful– the only dish which I haven’t loved was one of their rices which I believe has so sort of fish flavoring in it which just isn’t my taste, other than that everything is wonderful. Service can be a little spotty but both times that I have been were during busy hours. Also, call ahead for a reservation to ensure a table and not have to wait as the wait is often long.

My husband and I only shared 5 domain orders, but it’s enough to get both of us stomach upset. Greasy! I throw up after having lunch there. Followed by passing out for a long time due to the msg they use in their food. We ordered Shanghai dumpling(they provide Cantonese style red vinegar which is not shanghaiese style, meat taste is just eatable, I’m impressed by their thin skin), leek and shrimp buns(oily), shrimp dumpling(good shrimp, just like any other domain places), beef noodle roll(good sauce, but is it really beef?), bamboo rolls(greasy, can’t really appreciate the flavor compare to other domain places). Overall, nice looking restaurant. But I would not recommend this place to any of my friends.

I was helping to host a dinner event here for 13 people in total at a budget of $ 60/pax(including tax & tips). I called up the restaurant and asked if they could prepare a special menu for me that fit the budget, and they were extremely accommodating. They even offered to give us a private room. The menu was pretty decent as well, with lobster noodles, fish, peking duck, etc. The service was also excellent. Would definitely pick this restaurant again for future dinner events! :)

This chinese restaurant falls into the category of «fancy» and«Americanized». Now there’s nothing really wrong with that if that’s what you’re looking for. Service here is top notch as is food presentation– not top priorities at a typical chinese place. We opted for the 5 course set menu and it was a lot of food. Quality was there and the food was good though again not with the typical Chinese flavors. Overall I had an enjoyable meal and enjoyed the attentive service. Great for business meals or special occasions.

Expensive but delicious. Came here with my family of five which was perfect because that meant we could order a ton of different options and share everything. You order the dimsum off a sheet(instead of a cart) by marking the ones you want(like when you’re ordering sushi). Shrimp Dumpling: Good, pretty standard shrimp dumplings though. Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf: This is my mom’s favorite. It’s basically sticky sweet rice wrapped in lotus leaf. It is really good, I prefer having this with my dimsum instead of plain rice. Shanghai Dumpling: one of my favorites! This is the soup dumpling and it’s soooo good. So good that after our first order we ordered it again… three more times. Great decision. Spinach Seafood Dumpling: This is one ugly dumpling(translucent green on the outside and you can kind of see the seafood stuffing. It’s yummy though, and they don’t skimp on the seafood! Mostly shrimp and crab, but big pieces. Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings: Very crispy and delicious. This was a good contrasting dish to all the dimsum we were consuming. String Beans with Minced Pork: I’m personally not a fan of string beans but I liked this dish, mainly because the sauce was amazing. It was just the right amount of salty and slightly spicy and thick. Pan Fried Chicken Bun: If you love bread you’ll like this. The bread is very thick and delicious, slightly sweet and fried to golden perfection. Honestly I could have enjoyed just the bread sans chicken in the middle. BBQ Pork Bun: Good, but I thought it was a little similar to the Pan Fried Chicken Bun, only that one was fried and better executed. Fried Rice: Didn’t try this(was more interested in the dimsum), but my family members said it was just decent, not a memorable dish. Steamed Black Sesame Balls: THIS right here is the reason why I wish I was at Taipan right now. AMAZING. An order comes out with four relatively small mochi(?) balls with a black sesame filling and covered with some sweet substance? It’s chewy but simultaneously melts in your mouth, and my only regret is that we didn’t order more :(but FYI it takes 20 minutes to fulfill this order, so be sure to order ahead if you don’t want to wait!

Immaculately clean dim sum place located in downtown PA. My dining companion took charge and ordered for both of us which was great. The vegetarian and seafood dumplings are very good. The jasmine tea was flowery, so should be ordered only if one likes flowery flavors. A certain CEO of the largest social media company was eating here with his wife while we were here. The owners were nice, although a bit regimented in their speech. This is a good date spot. Quiet enough for conversation.
