Dr. Widtfeldt fitted me for orthotics for two problems with my left foot, Morton’s neuroma and the residual effects of foot damage due to a fall 15 years earlier. Eventually, two and a half years ago, we agreed that the neuroma needed to be surgically removed, which he did skillfully at the Surgecenter at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. He phoned the next day to check on how I was doing, and then I had two followup appointments. I am happy to say that I am now pain-free in both feet. I would go back to Dr. Widtfeldt if I had any further podiatric problems.

I went to Dr. Widtfeldt for plantar fasciitis. He explained the condition very well and answered questions about maintaining and treating it, including the advice against surgery. I have been following the advice about wearing orthotics all the time for the last 3 years. The orthotics really help by themselves if all I do is just walk. But I also have to exercise and stretch for them to work before and after running. He also knows about good physical therapists around the Bay Area, and when I mentioned a therapy of my choice, he supported the idea and provided me with references. This was two best things that I believe I have done for myself to get myself running again: #1 get the orthotics and #2 start a physical therapy that put me on the path of continuous strength training that supports my running habit(yes, it is an addiction:)).

Dr. Arthur Widtfeldt at Palo Alto Medical Foundation destroyed my foot with his unnecessary foot surgery. According to the most highly respected orthopedic surgeon in the San Francisco bay area, the total reconstruction of my metatarsil bone and great toe by Dr. Widtfeldt was unnecessary and healed so badly that it caused a hammer toe and other deformities that lifted my toe off the ground by one half inch and did not even correct any of the problems it was supposed to address. The orthopedic surgeon said that if I had gone ahead with the second surgery that Dr. Widtfeldt wanted to perform, it would have lifted my toe up even higher off the ground. The deformities were so bad that not even the most highly rated and respected ortho surgeon or an excellent podiatrist could correct them with the two more surgeries I had to have. Because my great toe joint is frozen solid(after Dr. W’s disastrous surgery), my toe won’t flex when I walk which causes pain with every step. Steer clear of this doctor.
