The last thing you want to do on Thanksgiving Day is get up on a cold morning to go out and run 4 miles… especially if you’d gone out the night before. But you do it anyway because you’re dedicated… and because your buddies know where you live and would drag your«S» out of bed if you didn’t show up right along with them. After all, peer pressure can be a very motivational tool when it needs to be. However, if you think that you’re going to be able to phone this race in, you’re going to have to think again. Since the Palos area, along with the surrounding communities, is quite hilly, all four miles are going to have to be earned. Logic says that after all those treks up hill, eventually there’s going to HAVE to be a turn or two downward, right? Wrong! The«downs» just never seem to come. This race seems to laugh in the face of physics. What nerve! One benefit to getting up early for this is that after you run, you’ll have made some room for all that food you’ll be eating later that night. Another, is that you’ll be helping out a lot of needy people as you wander through the tree lined streets of Palos. After all, it is all for a good cause. Everyone who registers is asked to bring some canned goods for their food drive and every year, the pile of donations gets larger and larger. Just another thing to give Thanks for. The Palos Turkey Trot 4m. a «must do?» Well, maybe not a «must», but definitely a «should do», that’s for sure.
