What a fantastically calming evening! Greeted immediately when we drove up by the owners! They were so amazing… took us for a tour of the lovely butterfly gardens and the free range animals – frogs, ducks, turkeys, cows… all awesome! We arrived at our super cute tents… they later came and started a fire for us and gave us lanterns to go to the bathroom! The outdoor shower was so cool and this is the most pleasant Johnny on The Spot I’ve ever seen! The tents were adorable and the country was sooooo calming! We brought food(apps and grilled items) and they have an awesome farm to table meals if you choose! Just a calming and amazing place! We stayed up talking and laughing for hours! The next morning there was amazing breakfast! We were welcomed into the gracious lives of this couple and we appreciated them and their amazing property! LOVE! If anyone has questions ask me!

Wow. Steer clear. Mrs hoot wants your money but do NOT try to have any fun. As long as you like to stay quietly inside an under appointed tent then this is your place but if your a good looking to get away and have a great time with each other steer clear Mrs hoot only wants your final payment and for you to stay quiet or fear being categorized as «river trash». We are a group of executives and professionals we are not river trash mrs Hoot should first seek to understand before she levels judgment on guests!!!

I went with a group of 20 women to «Glamp» at Hoot Owl Hill. We were very excited about the outing and for someone like me — who loves to camp, have my own vineyard, and loves the outdoors — I couldn’t wait. When we drove in, Mrs. Hoot was standing with her arms crossed on the sidewalk and as soon as we got out of our vehicles she demanded that anyone that hadn’t paid their second half of their payment(pay ½ up front and the second ½ when you arrive), must come inside and pay. We had just stepped out of our cars! No «Welcome» or anything. She asked for cash only, but then didn’t have change to give anyone. We took the trolley winery tour, which was wonderful(Loyd was great!) and arrived back that evening to a very upset and rude Mrs. Hoot. A couple of our ladies were upset that the accommodations were not what were advertised, and she was very rude to them. The«clean outdoor shower and bathroom» was a tub with mud and debris in it and a porta potty. The feather beds and homeade quilts were blow up mattresses and regular thin comforters. The food was ok, but nothing I would rave about personally. The pork and homemade strawberry ice cream were good. Mr. Hoot and their son-in-law were wonderful. Very attentive and helpful. Unfortunately, Mrs. Hoot was not. If they continue to do this endeavor, I encourage that she make them the face that interacts with the campers and only advertise what they really have at the place. It has the potential to be a cute place, but presentation goes a long way. We were all professional women — not high school kids that would disrespect their home and grounds. We were there to enjoy ourselves and relax. The cost and attitude definitely makes me say«choose someplace else».

A small group of friends stayed at Hoot Owl Hill for an overnight get away. We had enjoyed lunch and a wine tasting, and the charming shops in Paola town square before arriving for the night. As soon as we drove up, we were warmly greeted by Brenda, who let us know all about our accommodations and surroundings, including some history of her beautiful home and acreage. The surroundings were just breathtaking. There were beautiful gardens everywhere you looked, with such creative attention to detail you can’t take it all in at first glance. Right away, kindly gentlemen appeared, who helped carry our belongings to our campsite. They had already started our fire, and tents were set up and ready for us. What a treat! We settled in to pavilion style tents they told us were shipped from England, roomy enough for 3 queen beds for us to stay in. Though we were visiting during uncharacteristically cold weather for the season, the tents and beds were cozy warm, and I slept all night with no problem. Dinner was amazing, served on the wrap around porch at the house. Much of the food came from their own organically grown produce, all served by the friendly staff. The home made ice cream and blackberry crisp dessert was to die for! Of course, we headed back to our campsite for smores and girl talk around the fire, but were checked on more than once to be sure we had everything we needed. In the morning, there was coffee early for those who wanted, and a lovely breakfast with fresh eggs from their own chickens, home made cinnamon rolls, and more. Upon departure, the same kind gentlemen arrived to help us load our vehicles and navigate the muddy pathways with our belongings(there had been a lot of rain over the previous weeks). We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the folks at Hoot Owl Hill. I am sure we will return again for another charming stay.

Mrs. Hoot is anything but a hoot. My mother spent months planning a glammping trip to the hill after reading a wonderful article in Kansas City Spaces Magazine. 20 professional women got babysitters and husbands to escape the real world for a weekend in the woods for a girl power trip with food and fun. After a wonderful day touring the wineries with the greatest trolley driver, Loyd, we were dropped off at hoot owl. We got our gear and followed the wood chip path that was rather muddy because of all the rain, to the camp site. After 20 yards lugging our coolers and bags we were approached by a screaming Mrs. Hoot. She was very upset that we were stepping on her«flower seeds». We were all rather confused as to how we were steeping on the flower seeds when we were lugging heavy loads of food and clothes on a clearly marked path. Mrs. Hoot started the venture on the wrong foot but we didn’t care because we were here for girl time and fun in luxurious tents like we were promised. Entering the tents were anything but luxurious. We opened large one room tents to three blow up mattresses with Walmart bedding. Not down feather comforters or queen sized beds as stated. Mrs. Hoot then continued to yell and scold 20 of us professional working women. We payed $ 140 to sleep on blow up mattresses with a curfew of 11. As a twenty one year old college student who saved for a month for this trip, I was nothing but disgusted with the atmosphere and staff. The women and I raved to our friends and family about this adventure and were already planning future trips with other friends here but after this experience I will make sure to never return or recommend this to even strangers. Mrs. Hoot, we all own homes and are respectful individuals. We respect and admire the work you put into your property. We are not trash and would never go out of our way to harm the beautiful work you have put into this land. I strongly suggest anyone looking to glamp at hoot owl hill save $ 100 and put a tent in your backyard. It will be much more comfortable.

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. Show up to find your tent and camp site are set up. Enjoy walking the grounds, gardens, trails and making friends with the guineas. We can’t wait to come back. Brenda and Steve, the owners and hosts of this fabulous property personally get to know you and do what they can to make it that much better… its an adventure you will never forget. Do it and thank yourself later. Go before everyone finds out about it.

My girlfriend and I had a wedding to attend in Paola so we finally got to stay at Hoot Owl Hill — it was amazing! Brenda and Steve were so cool and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. As I imagined, breakfast was amazing — our eggs were even fresh from their chickens. We’ll definitely be back and can’t wait.
