It may not be fair for me to review this operation as I’ve been a baker in a past life and I’ve also owned and operated a number of retail operations over the years. So I walked in to our new Paradise bakery full of expectation of great selections of cakes, cookies and sweets… As I stood waiting for one of the two employees who were there in the front of the store to acknowledge my entering their new bakery(their only customer), I wondered if I had entered the wrong store. Maybe this was the bookstore??? On display In the entire store, I found only two sad little cupcake displays each with two or three… day-old cupcakes. Still waiting for someone to say something to me a few minutes later, I spoke up and asked if they had any German chocolate cakes. The one girl who finally responded(a new employee it seemed) asked the other girl if there was anything else besides what they had on display, and the other girl(manager.) looked up from her paperwork and said no, they only had these cupcakes, but I could order a cake, but they were out at least two weeks before they could make one. She said they were slammed with business and they made cakes by order… I am from the bay area and no one in their right mind would shop at a «Bakery» that had no inventory and one where it took two weeks for a cake… Amazing! What are these people thinking??? This place is not long for the world and will probably be gone when the first years lease is up… I guess I will have to wait for a real bakery to open here in our fair little town.

Expected more flavor and less goo on top and maybe just a bit larger than my cupcake tin at home for $ 2 cupcakes. Okay and I’ve heard that some other items are better like the cinnamon rolls but I haven’t been back yet

A bakery where you can get fresh baked goods made with quality ingredients… in Paradise?! Yes please! Paradise was in sore need of a place like this, seriously. It’s great to see a more contemporary food place pop up in my tiny hometown. I’ve tried a few of their cupcakes, my favorite being a lemon cake with lemon curd in the center and cream cheese frosting. It’s so fresh and bright tasting – really delicious. I also really liked a chocolate one with ganache, almonds and espresso frosting. One I didn’t really care for was a caramel cake with brown sugar frosting & pecans, because the caramel tasted burnt to me. Someone else in my family quite liked it though, so I guess it was just me. Their pumpkin cheesecake was amazing too, and the sweet potato pie was something I’d never had before, but can I saw WOW? I’d eat it over plain ol’ pumpkin pie any day. Yay, Blue Sugar! Keep it up!

For Paradise, this place is pretty good. The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. I was disappointed in the cupcakes though. I had rave reviews from a few friends and have been dying to try them. I picked up a gluten free and a regular cupcake. The gluten free was a 2 out of 5. It’s nice they offer options however it was extremely dry and not very chocolaty at all. It was a chocolate with chocolate frosting and I was so hoping for a decadent little morsel. The cake was dry and dense, the frosting lacked flavor. The regular one was dry as well, not as dry but far too dry for my taste. The taste of the cake however was rich and buttery. The topping was a touch too sweet, but the buttery cake and the sweet topping was a nice combination. I will go back and try a couple other cupcakes to give this place a chance.

My friend got me a gift certificate for Blue Sugar, which I was excited to try. I’ve visited probably 5 times. The owner, Danielle, is a good baker(pleasant, too). The cupcakes are good, but I prefer the chocolate over vanilla. The bread pudding is yummy, as well as the cinnamon rolls. But, I very much prefer caramel rolls to cinnamon rolls, which she doesn’t bake nearly as often. There is nowhere else, absolutely nowhere, in Paradise to order hand made baked treats. Oh, and the prices? Quite fair.

Ok went back today and my daughter’s cupcake was filled with hairs. There was 1 in the frosting and 1 in the cupcake.

In the past I have purchased their cinnamon rolls at the farmers market and have been satisfied. I have also been following them on Facebook and have enjoyed seeing all the great pictures of their cupcakes for months. I finally got the chance to go in and pick some cupcakes up today. I purchased three of them. I got a lime one, junior mint and blackberry lemonade. The lime was ok, the curd in the center was the most flavorful part and very good, but the cake texture was almost like cornbread. The lemonade was flavorless other than the very tart blackberry on the top. The junior mint was by far the best of the three. The chocolate cake was very good and moist. I also didn’t care for their frosting much on any of the cakes, it seemed like it was the same base just flavored different for all the cakes. The shop is very cute and I have seen some amazing wedding/birthday cake pictures(on Facebook) that they have made. I am a skilled home baker so I tend to be a little nit pickier than most.

Picked up 5 cupcakes this afternoon. Powpow, strawberry, pbj, chocolate, and gluten free almond. Cake texture was moist and fluffy. I was disappointed with the lack flavor. Pow pow cupcakes was cherry frosting with a lime cake thought it was gonna be flavorful., cake was moist yet the flavor was lacking nearly missing. Was more excited due to the name«pow pow», Expected more flavor!!! The one frosting that you could tell had flavor was the peanut butter one.
