I have been refurbishing a 61′ VW Bus and turning every nut and bolt on it. There was a lot of work that needed to be done which was beyond my scope of expertise. I heard about Old Speed through other professionals in the auto industry that I trust, so I took it to them to get the work done.
Russ quoted me a very fair price to put in a new ball joint front end, new freeway flyer transmission, a new engine, and new disc breaks all the way around. He told me it would take 3 weeks to do and sure enough, he called me three weeks later to tell me the job was complete.
I am more than pleased with their service! Basically, Russ and Manny (one of his guys who helped him work on it) took an old car and made it drive better than new!
If I ever need any more work done on a VW I would hands down take it to Russ and his team at Old Speed!

If your looking on Unilocal,its because you don’t know them personally and aren’t sure if you should go there. Well, don’t then. Don’t expect any sort of customer service. There’s no sort of consultancy in this place. They have been in the VW world for a very long time and they know their stuff (at least the owner does but you won’t get all your work done by him so it doesn’t matter; I picked my car vintage VW up with a few key bolts missing and not driving well and he had to personally fix it). I went there because of the name and because I know they have been around for ever. I won’t go back. I’m disappointed because I wish they would have taken care of me but it seemed that I wasn’t worth their time after I spent about $ 1,500. I gave them two stars because again, they have great ideas and experience, but lack passion and customer service which is what I look for to take care of my vintage VW.

I have been coming to old speed for some time now and there the real deal from carburetors to suspensions to engine’s to anything VW that u can think they got u covered, great work, great service and reliable u can beat it keep up the good work Russell

I will never go here again. Terrible customer service. I no longer own my VW BUS for the reason that I spent more than $ 2500 on parts here and got very little to no customer support on installation questions. The main reason I went to them was beause I heard nothing but good reviews from other customers. But from my personal experience is that they are quick to take your money but when it comes to asking technical questions they dont want to share there experiences (Maybe because they dont want ou to pay for there services.) Also I had them work on my BUS to adjust the carb and look at the steering and what I got back was supprising. Few days latter when I was looking inside the engine compartment I found a shop rag shoved inside the engine bay. Then I went to inspect the suspension and found that components were removed and not properly reinstalled. Make sure you deal with Russell only cause everytime I call there or try to do a transaction all the others are so stupid they dont even know how to ring up a transaction. I do want to add something positive. The rear lower suspension kit for a late model BUS is the best kit out there. You get a stock suspension ride with a lowered look. Customer service is very important and if they improved on that they could easily be a 5 STAR. Wish you the best of luck on your VW.

I’ve gone to Old Speed for over 15 years off and on (off when I was driving non vw’s), but Russ is a real cool guy, down to earth and knows his stuff. These guys do quality work, and stand behind it. They built a 1776 dual carb engine for me that ran great for over 10 years until I sold it, and I confidently let the buyer that the guys at Old Speed built it, and it runs and runs. Many times I would pick Russ’ brain, and learned a lot from him. I highly recommend Old Speed, if you want your VW built/​running right these are the guys to do it, and they’ll discuss options within your budget.
