Raymour and Flanigan Furniture

Might as well call ‘em «Paymor and Buyagain» because (1) they are expensive for average quality furniture and (2) their stuff simply does not last.
Ok, so in fairness, you can say these things about a lot of furniture sold these days. Looks good, wears poorly; planned obsolesence in action; unless off course you spring for architectural quality or high-​end european imports — like Roche Bobois for instance. Even the European stuff is often poorly made and you pay the extra samolians for the label.
Macy’s on Route 4 carries the same quality as RF (often by the same manufacturer) for 20−50% less — with better selection — and their sales staff will not hound you with vigorous up-​selling every few minutes. Better deal for me.

I bought a bedroom set 1.5 years ago. My bed broke while under warranty now ago after warranty. I called for service and they could only offer me an appointment 3 weeks away for a fee which I don’t mind to pay. The appointment date is unacceptable. The fact of the matter is the repair man is busy because the furniture is cheap quality and doesn’t last.
After reading my review they sent someone the next day to fix.

I was invited back for VIP customer day at this raymour and Flanagan. I bought pretty much all of my furniture in my room from this store. My bed frame. 2 side tables and a full desk. When I originally went herewith a designer and we had everything picked out prior to coming to the store. I knew what I wanted and it was there top of the line stuff. I had a young guy who seemed like a salesman. I asked if I could have the manager because I knew what I wanted and I didn’t like how this guy was trying to sell me on stuff that I didn’t want.
Once the manager came everything changed. My designer presented him with how I wanted my room to look and the bed frame I had picked out online ECT. They did not have the bed I was looking for on the showroom floor. The manager showed me a bed frame similar to the bed I wanted. They did have the end tables in a display unit I was fairly pleased with the construction of the tables. My parents have bought a full living room set from raymour and Flanagan in the past and it has held up great.
I ended up getting the bed frame and the end tables. The manager told me that he would contact a store closer to my house to set up delivery. He told me it is crazy to ship the stuff from NJ to NY when they have a store closer to my location.
They shipped everything and for the first 5 months everything was good. One night I had a friend over from out of town and he sat on the edge of my bed and the one beam came right out and the bottom left side of the mattress hit the floor I fell out of the bed. We were both laughing. When I looked the wood somehow had splintered. I called up RF the next day and they were so nice. They arranged for a pick up of the old bed and a delivery of a new bed frame. I did order there top of the line bedframe and I did get the extended warranty with the bedframe.
Overall. I would recommend this store if you know what you want cash is king financing is fine also but be prepaid for a lot of questions if you finance. My end tables are still holding up good and my second bed frame is doing great and plenty of people have sat on it to watch movies.

— shipped my stuff to a store closer than NJ for delivery
CONS:
— young salesman was annoying, kept trying to sell me stuff even tho I knew what I wanted.

I ordered a leather sofa and chair from Raymore and Flanigan. The delivery was scheduled for today. The delivery people were prompt however when they got here they asked my husband to sign a waiver if they damage the walls or the furniture that they would not be responsible. He refused to sign it for obvious reasons. They told my husband they couldn’t get the sofa downstairs they never measured and never even tried. They told him that they were wasting time and money speaking to him. When I called the store they contacted the delivery men and said that they measured to see if it would fit, when in fact they did not. They flat out lied.
So two days before Christmas I have no furniture and hosting family, totally disgusted this is the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. additionally they told me it would take three days for them to credit my account absolutely disgusting.

We were still in the process of getting our condo when we visited Raymour and Flanigan in Paramus after checking out a few other furniture stores on Route 17 (Ashley’s, Crate and Barrel, Bob’s etc.) I wish I had just gone to Raymour first and skipped the other stores!
Our sales rep, Enrique was very helpful. We looked at the website before we went there, which was useful because we could give him the SKU number for an item we liked online and he would show it to us on the floor. The day we went there, they were having their annual 20% off sale. Enrique informed us that we could pick out what we wanted, lock it down at the discounted rate and only have to pay a refundable 10% deposit. This worked out fantastically for us, because at the time, we were still unsure about when we’d get the keys to the apartment.
Their prices are very reasonable. Not super cheap like Bob’s but for the quality, the furniture is very well priced. Even their inexpensive pieces don’t feel cheap.
After everything was finalized, we were still able to add and change the order according to our needs. The reception staff co-​ordinated with our building concierge and took care of all the insurance requirements before delivery. They delivered on time within the 3 day window. Even the delivery and assembly staff were super organized and efficient. Just a great all-​round experience. I would highly recommend them!

I just went to this website for the first time and was surprised to see the negative reviews. We have been dealing with Raymour and Flanagan for about 7 years now and each purchase went smoothly. The items were all well made and in perfect condition. This included a sectional sofa and a king size bed. We also purchased 2 desk chairs with casters. A few week ago I called them to find out how to get new casters which had broken. They sent out a service man who was unable to use any of the casters he had on hand. He called the office from our home and they ordered the correct replacements. Today he came back and installed the two casters. He was a very pleasant young man. This was all done with no cost to us. I highly recommend shopping at Raymour and Flanagan and hope others will be as pleased as were have been.

In response to my 12÷5÷13 update, I received a message from R&F stating the following:
Darren, we are very sorry to hear about your experience. If you could please respond back with a phone number, we’ll have our corporate customer care team reach out to you shortly. Thank you.
My response to them was:
Hi there. It’s a shame nobody reached out to me over a year ago when I first reported these problems and when we tried multiple times to work with customer service over the phone. As described in my post above we had no choice but to throw out the defective furniture and have since purchased a much better quality coffee table from a competitor, so I’m not sure there’s anything that your corporate customer care team can do, short of offering us a full refund for the price of our original purchase. If this is something you can do, then by all means feel free to give me a call at XXX-​XXX-​XXXX — otherwise I’d prefer not to have any dealings with Raymour and Flanigan again. Thanks.
After several weeks I received a call from a woman on the Corporate Customer Care Team. She spoke extremely quickly, like she was just trying to get through the call as fast as possible, and I imagined I must have been one of 100 people she was calling that day. We discussed the issue at some length.
She said at one point, «I know you may not want to shop with us again, but can I offer you a store credit?» I responded that, as noted in my response to the manager who contacted me here on Unilocal,I was absolutely uninterested in ever setting foot in their store again, and that the only way I would be satisfied is if they refunded my actual purchase price. Her response was, «yeah…yeah, it’s a shame you threw out the table because we can’t give you a real refund without it.» I almost lost my mind, and reiterated my rant describing how many times we spoke to customer service a year ago when we DID still have the table, and how they would not give us a refund or replacement, despite the fact that we should have qualified for such under our warranty.
Eventually she relented and said the best she could do was offer me a $ 100 refund check. I told her that was better than nothing, and after 3 weeks we received the check.
So to sum up — I have now received back ¹⁄₅^th of the cost (the original table cost upwards of $ 500 including tax and shipping) on a coffee table that 1) arrived damaged, 2) was not repaired properly, 3) smelled terrible for the year+ that we had it, 4) was promised a refund/​replacement on but never received, 5) remained unaddressed after spending hours on the phone with inept, uncaring customer service, and 6) started peeling after 6 months. Umm… thanks, I guess?
I am grateful that I have at least $ 100 back considering I never thought I would see a penny of it. However if this is their idea of customer service (and again this was not just their regular customer service team, this was their «corporate customer care»), then it just proves how little Raymour & Flanigan actually cares about anything except lining its own pockets.

We purchased a beautiful white leather sectional sofa from Raymour & Flanagan. They delivered it yesterday but when my husband returned home from work he felt they placed it too far over in our living room. Although it is a sectional sofa, it was clamped together by the movers and we cannot take it apart. We tried ourselves to move the sofa a few inches but it would not move. So I phoned Raymour & Flanagan to ask them to send someone out to help us move it those few inches. I spoke with a surly phone operator who said that he could not help me. Once delivered the problem was mine.
Beware: If you purchase anything from Raymour & Flanagan, you better have all your family members there at the time of delivery because should any of them not like the way it is placed, Raymour & Flanagan will not help you in any way even to move it only a few inches.

I recently bought a bed set from Raymour and Flanigan on June 22^nd. We ordered the Casana Vista Queen Bed, the document number is 06223E5JSVK. We got the furniture delivered but the headboard and two piers had cracks, marks, and scratches on them. It took them two exchanges for them to get piers that were okay, but we still have a headboard that is cracked and scratched.
After the first exchange, I had to call again to ask for another exchange, and the representative got annoyed and told us that this is the last time they would exchange the furniture. If I’m paying all this money for furniture, I do not appreciate furniture arriving damaged or defective. And I also do not appreciate a representative telling me that this is the last time they’ll exchange the furniture for us, regardless if the furniture is damaged or not. How do they know that the piece isn’t going to be damaged?
Then, when they brought the two piers and the headboard, the movers allowed us to inspect the pieces outside in the sunlight, which I thought was a good idea. The headboard was not exchanged and we made a note on the green paper we had to sign saying that we were still waiting for the headboard. They said they would call us for the next exchange date. But they did not call us, I had to call, and when I did, they were confused by our note, but did not contact us to clarify what was written and what took place.
We just had another attempted exchange today and the headboard that they brought was again severely scratched. We are now waiting for them to exchange it again Thursday.

They dont let you post zero stars. Save your money…

I dealt with a salesman named Gary Danziger at this location and he went back on his word. We negotiated a deal but when I went back to purchase and pick-​up the bed, Gary told me he couldn’t give me the bed at the negotiated price. The old bait and switch. Thanks for wasting my time and energy Gary. I recommend that you avoid this character and seek another sale person.

I was recently at their VIP event and decided to purchase a dresser/​chest for the living room. Got my 12% discount and requested pick up, not delivery. Delivery would have been over 100 for a 299 item that fits in your trunk. 2 days later, I arrived to pick up my item. Upon inspection, I saw dried glue spots smeared on the inside of one of the side drawers. Bringing this to the attention of the manager, he said I should order another one, and pick up (again) 2 days later.
Second time around, I inspected the inside and this time, there was a nail head that was coming up on one of the shelves. Brought to the attention of this second manager, he was apathetic at most. I was told I should have it delivered, that way they inspect it before delivery (ha ha). Why should I pay the extra charge for this not-​so-​large item? I said I wanted a refund, he told me where to find Customer Service.
Seems like they don’t care if customers are happy with their items or their customer service «skills». No apologies, just chastised for not paying for «delivery».
Not wanting to see if the 3^rd time is the charm, I got my refund and will go shopping elsewhere for furniture.

I would prefer to give them 2.5 stars, but that’s not an option. I was extremely pleased with how professional and polite everyone was (except for one person, please see later in the review): saleperson, delivery people, customer service reps, and the tech who came to inspect a piece of furniture that had scratches/​cracks on the underside of the shelves. I bought the 81 inch Park Avenue TV console, which I absolutely do not recommend. It is the reason why my review is so low. The scratches were on the underside of the shelves, so even though you can’t see them, I thought for the price I’m paying ($ 822 with tax and delivery charges) it should be perfect. Maybe my standards are too high. So R & F arranged to have a tech look at the scratches. He was going to fix them, then took photos, sent them to the company, and recommended that I receive a new piece. Within 5 minutes of him leaving my place, I got a phone call and arranged to have a new piece delivered in less than a week. I was so happy at how they handled it. When I received my new piece today, it still had scratches/​cracks on the underside of the shelves, and this time about in inch diameter section of wood seems to be missing from the support underneath the top part of the console. Today’s delivery man seemed annoyed that I found these imperfections a problem. True, you can’t see these imperfections, but that’s not the point. The point is that I’m paying good money for something — it shouldn’t have scratches or pieces missing even if it’s minor. I had to wait a month to get a tech to come out to even look at the piece, and my TV has been sitting in its box in the meantime while I was paying for cable that I couldn’t use since I had to wait to hook up my TV until the tech came. R & F seems to portray itself as a high end furniture store, but I think that’s just the presentation, based on my own experiences. Maybe this is an isolated incident — others seemed to be happy with the pieces that they bought based on online reviews. I also appreciated that they went through the trouble of getting me a new piece. But I won’t shop here again.
