If you’re in a spending mood, head on over to Porte Maillot. Right across from the Palais des Congres de Paris is one of my favorite hotels in Paris, Le Meridien Etoile. Jazz Club Lionel Hampton is an upscale joint, right on the ground floor of the hotel. The club is used for business meetings, lunches, and a bunch of happy hour events and then the concerts start at night. Based on it’s location so close to the Champs Elysees, La Defense and the #1 Metro line, I can see why business travelers love to stay at Le Meridien Etoile. It’s got all the modern luxury and comfort that people love. During the day, the bar operates with the standard above-average prices. During the evening concerts, however, your first drink costs you 26 Euro which includes the club charge, and then each additional drink costs you the standard above-average prices. To those of you with expense accounts, remember this place. In September 2005, I was guest-listed into the Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums show for free and didn’t even look at the menu, just ordered the best Laurent-Perrier champagne for the band to welcome them back to Paris. A good time, but expensive. Was it any wonder that my American Express card reached its limit the next day? Ah, Paris :)
