This was a nice local spot to stop in Paris, TX. I try to avoid chains whenever I go somewhere, but I have to say when I showed up looking for some solid home cooking I was a little disappointed. I grabbed their chicken fried steak and it was almost burnt, and the mashed potatoes it came with were bland. My friend grabbed some french toast and eggs and he said they were good, but we must have come on an off day because it just wasn’t delicious like I’d expected. Diner food should be greasy and delicious and home-made, this just felt cheap.

Family and I came here based on the Unilocal reviews. Were seated immediately and had wonderful service. The waitress was even nice enough to cut up one of our sons’ pancakes for him. Everything we ordered was out of this world good. My kids’ pancakes were huge. What a great find. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting some good down home cooking that tastes awesome and doesn’t break the bank.

After reading all the review I was expecting more. Maybe we just visited on an off day or the main cook was out. I was not overly impressed with our food… it was not bad but it was nothing to write home about. The service was very friendly and fast. The restaurant was clean and well taken care of. So maybe we just visited on an off day… we will try again soon!

Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Ward’s!!! Hands down, the best breakfast in town! Cowboy Omelet is what it’s about! Love it all! Service is always good no matter if it’s noon or 2AM.

Best breakfast and burgers in town. Friendly waitresses, good service and plenty to choose from on the menu. Lots of regulars, which speaks for itself.

The cook made a special recipe of homemade onion ring. They were fabulous! The wait staff was very accommodating. Great diner. Very old school diner. Pool tables in the back

My wife and I stopped in during a recent weekend getaway. I’d missed lunch that day and was ready for a good meal. That’s exactly what was served. My wife had the beef vegetable soup. A good, thick bowl of soup with a good flavor. It’s worth stopping in just for a bowl. I had the salad, a good portion with plenty of dressing. My wife ordered the chicken strips. I ordered the chicken fried steak. Both came with fries and toast, and a bowl of gravy. No scrimping here, even after missing a meal it was almost more than we could eat. Both the chicken strips and the CFS were tender and tasty. The service was quick and friendly, and both the server and the cook checked to make sure everything was OK. We’ll definitely be back if we’re in the area.

Stopped at Wards on the way home from our hunting lease… new to our travels through Paris, and knew we needed to establish some tried and true restaurants for the future. Walked in to wafting cigarette smoke, ashtrays on each table, generic brand condiments and powdered creamer. They don’t waste money on any sort of uniforms for the staff either… As for the food? Great price from what we’re used to in and around Dallas. Good, hearty fare. Got the breakfast burrito, and it was nice and full of eggs, sausage & cheese, with more melted on top. Side of has browns were nice and crispy. My son downed the Spanish omelet(maybe call it Mexican, due to the jalapenos inside?) with the hash browns as well. Overall? We’ll be back. This is our type of place.

Ward’s Restaurant(not«Sunriser» as noted here) is the sort of place people will automatically like or dislike, based upon their personal tastes. Ward’s is, to put it simply, like an old-fashioned truck stop, but without the trucks. It’s hamburgers, chicken-fried steak and daily lunch specials. And coffee at $ 1.07 a cup, tax included. You’ll either like that sort of food, or not. You’ll either not mind the sometimes spotty service, or it’ll bother you. You’ll either find the whole atmosphere distasteful, or there’ll be something about it that appeals to you, even if you’d never admit it to others. There’s nothing pretentious about the place. It’s popular, and it’s open 24⁄7. In the mornings, it’s folks getting ready for work. In the evenings, it’s folks getting off from work. Later, it’s folks just hanging out. Late on weekends, it’s sometimes folks who’ve had a bit too much to drink. You’ll see all types in Ward’s, and that’s part of its appeal for regulars. It’s like a pool of real life, and customers have to jump right in. Three stars for being what it is and not apologizing for it.
