Park City Mountain Resort

New management sucks. Last time we came, we had no problem taking a small bag on the alpine coaster ride with us. Said bag includes an epi-​pen for a bee allergy!!! I didn’t have any pockets I could put it in and neither did my wife. They wouldn’t even let me take a camera that was secured around my neck. I understand wanting to minimize loss but this is ridiculous! Not even Disneyland is this strict about bags. Unfortunately, unless policy changes about bringing small bags on the gondola and the coaster, mountainside will no longer be one of our go to summer spots.

Doesn’t get much better for skiing.
Amazing place. Can’t say enough good things.
Great place for a vacation… even better place for a backyard playground if you live closeby.

Waiting in line for a half hour for the lift ticket was abhorrent. When you get to the window and you realize they are taking names, emails and addresses in order to do a marketing campaign sent the wrong message. We wasted almost an hour… one of my friends told the woman… I won’t give you that info… so she just sold them the ticket… no hassle.
Combining Canyons and PC is fine but to jump the ticket prices 20% over last year is also hard to swallow… makes Deer Valley look like a steal. PC and Canyons have never been considered a beautiful resort… no magnificent vistas that you will see over at Solitude or Snowbird… it is sort of a working mans resort… rolling meadows more than peaks… the sheer volume of people make you feel as if you are skiing in a mall rather than a resort.
Probably my last time… stop gouging us.

+ But every staffs were nice and it will be good to take a gondola from cannyon side. Easy to access from parking lot. Many slopes and lifts and gondolas were open.
I will come back january or february when snow condition is ok.

Since Vail took over about a year ago, epic pass holders have access here. yay!!! Park City is huuuge with over 7,000 acres of terrains. The runs are long, most are spacious and wide. A good mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain so you won’t have to worry about beginners crashing into you :) It such a big park, the lift lines are rare.
The Quicksilver gondola takes you half way across to the neighboring Canyon Resort bt I liked the Park City side a lil better.
The runs go straight down to the parking lot which is a plus! Oh talking about parking. it can be a little crazy. It’s a small lot for such a big park. We stayed across the street so we walked over but people we met on the lifts & gondola said it took them 45min-​hour to park!
The weather was rare for Utah during our visit. It was so hot and no fresh snow :(but it wasn’t too bad. Go earlier in tbe day for better conditions. They have night boarding til 7pm but we usually left by 4. Overall Park a City was a fun experience!

Our event is called Big Mountain February and our pick happened to be Park City this time around. So we have a Crack at what it’s like to shred the slopes of Utah’s finest.
Let’s start with the ticket buying process. Vail seems to buy everything that’s anything in the world of ski resorts. So, you can avail a epic pass that’s good for all the Vail owned resorts in the area. Yes, that means ever so posh The Canyons Resort too.
Anyways, Park City is very nice. It’s mostly chair lifts, unless you’re taking the Park City to The Canyons gondola. There are attendants by the maps when you get off the lifts. They’re there to direct you to where you want to go.
The conditions for snowboarding was very good. It wasn’t windy whatsoever, so riding the chair lifts is a pleasant to experience. The snow on the slopes are really good, there are some icy spots, but very rare to come across. The slopes go for miles, so I suggest you tune up before coming.
Anyways, I enjoyed Big Mountain February here at Park City. I would definitely recommend it to all the intermediate to expert snow carvers.

Flew out here from SF. Everyone talks about this resort, so we had to come visit. It’s HUGE. There were so many lifts. Bc of its rep, park city can charge over 100 $ for a half-​day lift ticket… Everyone should just buy the full-​day lift tickets online and save a few bucks. They also have lots of rental shops to rent from ($ 20−30/day). Because they are located at the base of the mountain, it is very convenient to just rent for the day and return them before leaving.
The snow was great; weather was warm. There were a lot of people, but since the park was so big– it was not very noticeable. The snow was icier as the day went on, not only bc of the sun, but bc too many people went down using the same path. All the PC employees were very friendly and pleasant, especially those who went down the slopes to help anyone that fell down or was sitting down. Not sure if I would fly all the way out here to snowboard, but I can definitely see the appeal. Also, PC has a roller coaster (~$ 22/​person for adults): expensive but super fun. It made good use of our gopro!

Gigantic. Lots of blue and green runs for the beginners/​intermediates, but also super epic runs for the advanced riders. It’s seriously huge and has long, fun runs. Giving it four stars because of its outrageous price — $ 122 per person! ick!

I loved it!!! I am a beginner on snowboarding and I had a great time on the «first time» spot, there is a lot of space that at least for me is important for practice and no to crash with anybody, the access to the mountains were easy and quick, the staff in general were really friendly, and everything is really clean and nice. The views are amazing! I didn’t get classes here so I couldn’t express my opinion about it (just to be clear). But if you are either an expert or beginner on ski and/​or snowboarding I’m sure this is a great spot for spend a couple of days on the mountains.

This is the most fun I’ve had in years. Period.
The original intention of visiting was to nose around Sundance, but the closer I drove to Park City, the closer I had to get to those mountains. Everyone I spoke to at the resort were well within their rights to sigh from aggravation or laugh their asses off at the sight of me, since I was definitely dressed for the film festival instead of sliding down a mountain side. I’m delighted to say I’ve never met such a welcoming, non-​judgmental hoard of people who were more than happy to talk to a snow noob from out of town. If you’re going to learn to snowboard, this is an outstanding place to start.
It is impossible to walk around Park City Resort and not feel like you’ve been dropped into a mountain town in Skyrim. The endless array of supply shops aside, if you’re new to the sport, the utility of every article of clothing you put on is ingenious. I have a circulation disorder that had me convinced I could never do winter sports because of how fast my extremeties freeze up in the cold, but I was amazed at how well insulated I stayed in the gear I rented. Fellow Raynaud’s sufferers, we have options! We can do the snow sports! The gear you rent is in great condition, and assuaged my fears after memories of funky rental skates at the local rink. It’s not an easy job working at a resort, but the staff at Park City are wonderful people.
If you’re interested in lessons, there is a six hour class that starts at 9:30am, but you need to arrive at least at 8:30am to get fitted in your equipment since the lessons also come with a lift pass and equipment rentals. The rental gets you a snowboard, binding straps, and boots. (The helmet isn’t included, but I highly recommend getting one too.) Jacket and pants can be rented from another shop, and the only items that can’t be rented out are those that touch skin. Goggles and gloves aren’t too expensive and worth the investment. If you don’t want to start that early, there is a shorter two hour class at 1:30, which I’m glad I took because I learned more in a short time and if you’re not used to how much you’ll be using your core and thighs to stand up, you’ll tire quickly. (Also don’t take it personally if the toddlers who are on their first lessons are doing better than you. We’re old! It’s okay!)
My group lesson was lead by Sierra and she is a terrific instructor for her encouraging attitude, how easily she explains how to go/​start/​stop/​turn, and she takes the time to work with everybody at their different levels. It’s also impossible not to make friends in your group because you’ll be yelling encouragment at each other, swearing at them for doing better than you, and trading numbers so you can text the pictures you took of each other. Disneyland can eat it because I met so many positive people here, to me, this is the happiest place on earth.
The lodge gets wonky signal service sometimes, but make your quick Instagram updates and get back to enjoying the view. The day I went had a terrific amount of snow coming down and it was beautiful watching the advanced skiiers and snowboarders make their way down those incredible trails. I didn’t make it past the bunny slopes and resort area, but I’m eager to take the gondola out to check out the mining history in the mountains.
The only grievances I could think of were that food options are limited if you’re watching what you eat, but you’re close enough to downtown Park City, it’s easy to venture out (if you don’t mind hoofing it so you don’t lose your parking spot.) My only other major shock was that getting digital copies of the ‘action’ photos taken on the slopes rival theme park prices. My hope is that it’s going to the photographers’ income for how long they have to be out on the mountain taking pictures, but good gracious. Still, I couldn’t resist getting at least one of the photos captured of me falling on my ass. How could I when I had this much fun?

OK… this is my first one star review and I usually don’t agree with posting negative reviews as I believe in handling things personally with the business. However, with Park City I have come to the end of the road…
GOOD STUFF: Great mountain with lots of lifts that service several levels of runs. Most of the lifts are high speed. Easy to get to from Salt Lake city airport– only about 30 min and your are there.
BAD STUFF: Now that Vail Inc has taken over prices have soared… and I mean soared– two years ago I bought tickets for 60 $…last year 75 $…and this year a whopping 108 per day. These are mulit day passes by the way… the single day pass runs over 120 $! Ouch. In addition, if you are a family don’t go here– kids are only free if they are age 4 or less! While other resorts go as high as 8 before charging. There are no discounted tickets to be found anywhere as Vail has shut down all discounted ticket options. Their most recent linkage to the Canyons is a bad idea in my opinion as you’ll barely have time to get to the Canyons and come back before your day is over– it was easier just to drive to the canyons one day and try out the mountain there if you wanted to go there (and cheaper).
PRICE: As above– bad. An over 100% increase in ticket prices in two years is outrageous.
OVERALL: I love this place and it breaks my heart to give my first one star review to them. I have given feedback to their operators two years in a row now and it has fallen on deaf ears so the one star review on Unilocal is my last resort.

I came here but not to ski. Came to do the zip line and the mountain coaster.
My group called ahead multiple times to make sure everything was open. Got told conflicting info but we decided to come anyways. While in line trying to buy tickets was also told conflicting info. Bottom line the coaster was closed due to snow.
OK so we did the zip line and that was cool but not what I really expected. It was basically a fast sky ride that you sit down in a twin bucket. They also had some members of my group fill out release forms but they didn’t seem necessary for this.
We tried to make the best of everything while here. Got some food at the café and it was pricey. $ 10 for a thick slice of pizza.
Not much else to do around here unless you ski or snowboard. Some other reviewers complained about the expensive new prices. Come if you like but plan ahead.

There really is none like this ski resort and it is the epitome of quality snow and runs. I spent the MLK long weekend here and had a great time. We chose to snowboard two days, Friday and Saturday, and the two big negatives are definitely the lift ticket prices and the line to get a ticket. Even if you buy online before, you still need to wait in a separate, slightly shorter line than everyone else. It took more than 30 minutes of waiting in the cold to get our ticket the first day and the price was $ 130/​ticket. EESH!
Park City joined forces with Canyons so the mountain is HUGE. Since we rarely go all the way out to Utah, we wanted to explore as much of the mountain as we could so we took various lifts and gondolas to do so. The bottom lift is usually the most crowded so we tried to stick to the lifts in the middle of the mountain. The runs are very very long but it is more tailored to skiers than snowboarders. There were a lot of flat runs that connected the mountain together, very easy to get stuck if you don’t go in with enough momentum! They have a small terrain park but the rest of the mountain just has long, empty runs.
While in Salt Lake, one of the hotel workers mentioned that the reason the snow is so powdery is because the rains pick up salt from the Great Salt Lake and drops it in the mountain. Not sure how scientifically accurate that is, but the snow here requires less grooming and is super powdery!
Of course food is very expensive if you eat at the resort, I got a side order of chili cheese fries for $ 14! We packed sandwiches the next day but they do seem to have higher quality salads and flatbreads than the burgers I’m used to at Big Bear. Overall, definitely worth checking out if you’re an avid skier or boarder.

Like many Utah skiers, I was eager to see what the $ 50 million spent on the unification of PCMR and my personal favorite mountain, the Canyons would be like. I have spent the past two weeks skiing the mountains (mountain according to Vail Resorts who orchestrated the merger) and am of the opinion that while there have been significant improvements, the resort has descended into a crass money grab which seeks to recoup the initial investment on the backs of its customers in a very short period of time. While I am all for capitalism, I am offended by rank and obvious greed.
Vail offers a good deal on season pass. Upon arrival to the linked mega resort, it becomes clear that the season pass is nothing more than a loss leader. In the past various discounts were offered with the pass. This year most of the goodies have been snatched away. Believe me they get the full freight for the Epic pass by ripping off the customers in a myriad of other ways.
Park City is located within 30 minutes of SLC, it is unique in that while it is a destination resort it is also heavily used by locals. The local element was and is a critical part of the fabric of Utah skiing. In contrast, Vail is a resort which is almost exclusively a «destination» resort for well heeled travelers. Vail Resorts has attempted to recreate its Colorado resort in the heart of Utah ski country at the expense of locals who may not be able to afford the experience. As a result, a vital element of local ski culture has been sacrificed in the pursuit of a money grab. The greed starts at all levels of the new mega resort starting with the ski school.
PCMR had a renowned ski school which produced generations of local and out of town skiers. Last year I wrote about the 3s program which I enrolled my son in. This year, to my shock the cost of a daily group lesson shot up across the board for all levels of kids from $ 170 to $ 270 per day!!! To put this in perspective the «Ultimate 4s» class consists of 4 kids whose parents in total have shelled out $ 1080 for a group lesson lasting 6 hours or $ 180 per hour. The instructors teaching the kids get $ 12 per hour or $ 72 per day. Vail’s profit is $ 1008! The «Ultimate 4s» is an ultimate rip off.
By being such pigs, Vail has effectively barred families of modest or middle incomes from participating in skiing and having their children instructed in the sport. This piggery effectively bars most locals from having their children educated in a core local experience and that is a shame.
The thievery of the experience at the new mega resort continues when it comes to food on the mountain. The new Miner’s Camp is a new lodge built near the gondola linking PC and the Canyons. The highway robbery afoot in this establishment is astonishing. For a tiny cup of chili the cost is $ 14, the cost of a salad with chicken $ 20! The ultimate rip off was $ 25 for a burger and fries. This is not haute cuisine but simple ski resort cafeteria style food. Throughout my visit, I heard numerous skiers expressing outrage over the rip off being perpetrated.
To put the extent of the piggery in perspective, the cost of ski school at supposedly upmarket Deer Valley was $ 50 less than PC. The cost of the food which is far superior in quality and presentation was also significantly less. Who would have ever though the Deer Valley would be a bargain compared to PC?
Yes the lodges have been improved. Yes the gondola linking the two reports is very nice. It definitely improves the experience to link two very different mountains. But does this justify robbing customers?
Vail Resorts would be well advised to rethink the business model which is apparently founded on the quickest return on investment regardless of the impact on local communities and consumers.
One of the nice things about the Canyons was that it offered a free overnight ski valet. Aside from being a nice amenity, it was also clever from a business standpoint. Due to the close proximity of other ski resorts in Utah, the easiest way to make sure that the customers would come back is to hold their skis for them. I highly doubt Vail Resorts will offer a «free» ski valet in the future. Once the bean counters get wind of this amenity, you can bet next year there will be a charge for this service.
There was one good deal to be had during my visit in the Canyons ski shop. All of the merchandise with the old Canyons logo was 50% off. As a longtime Canyons skier, I bought as much as I could as a remembrance to the mountain whose name and identity was sacrificed so Vail Resorts could market «the largest ski resort in North America».
The skiing is excellent at both resorts. I prefer the Canyons as the runs are longer and steeper. Had this been a review limited to skiing it would have been an enthusiastic five stars. The highway robbery on display sadly soured the experience and cost two stars.

Loved the resort. There are a lot of choices for all skill levels. The lifts are pretty quick and not scary fast. Love that there are patrols everywhere to keep you safe. Skiing and snowboarding can be dangerous and it’s comforting to know that help is always nearby.
At one point I was up high in the mountain and wanted to come down and a ski patrol brought me back to the lodge.

I love PCMR. In the summer or the winter, it’s beautiful and there is so much to do!
In the winter it’s crazy and the lines are super long. I would Reccomend checking out other ski resorts like Snowbird or Brighton. Especially Brighton, you get way better skiing/​snowboarding for your money.
On the summer, this place is awesome! Great for Mt Biking and the alpine slide and other rides are a great family activity. I love the city and this resort is always a great time.
*if you do the alpine slide and you get stuck behind a slow rider, let them know and they’ll give you another ride free of charge! Super cool!

Came during the summer! So much fun especially when you’re with a group. Decided to do the flying eagle and zip lining. There’s a special for those two for $ 27 and it was worth it! Next time we come out we plan on coming back trying the other rides. The lines weren’t crazy long while waiting but during the weekend there are a high volume of people probably for vacation and just out to have fun. It’s beautiful during summer and the weather is hot so don’t forget to bring sunscreen!

First time to Park City, and I think this is the equivalent of California/Florida’s Disneyland/​World! It’s a remarkably crowded resort, popular to tourists from all over (the world that is). It has lots of food places, drink/​bar gathering locations, and lots of easily identifiable folks in their red or blue jump suits if you need them.
It has (what seemed like to me when I first got there) monstrous slopes that would dismantle my limbs, and leave my head rolling off the side of the slopes type of ski/​boarding venues. Luckily, after a multitude of falling my butt/​tail bone/​front rolls, I gained enough confidence to keep getting up and coming down that hill a total of FOUR times! LIKE A NOOB BOSS!
Anywho — friendly service, popualr tourist destination, lots of snow (with no refunds due to weather. those lift tickets though. ouch if weather gets ya). Loved my first time. Might have to come again. :x

Bought my lift ticket online. Went to the Epic Ticket Window and it was so fast! Bring your I. D and credit card you purchase your lift ticket with just in case you have any problems. But I just had to tell them my full name and that’s it!
This mountain resort is huge! Get the pamphlet so you can have it on you so you don’t need to keep asking the staff members where to go to get down to the resort. I got so tired from going in circles.
But there was a lift that had a photographer up there and my group of friends took pictures with them and she was directing us how to pose and what to do! What a great experience!
Had a mini break at Mojo’s and there was singer in there and it was nice and warm in there. However, the NFL playoff game was on. I think my friends wanted to hear the game more than her singing. Even though she was pretty good and had a great sense of humor with our group.
We did the last run around 3pm and the conditions were getting a bit icy. We had a lot of fun that ended by 4pm.

Park City is the go-​to destination for skiers around the world. With that being said, I would call this mountain more of a skier’s resort. Lots of cat tracks, very annoying if you’re a snowboarder and you get stuck. Overall a nice large mountain with many lifts and runs. There is a conveniently located town lift if you are staying at a ski-​in-​ski-​out.
–Very wide mountain, most skiers/​snowboarders are experienced based off my time on the green runs. (Snowboarders all do S-​turns).
–There is a very nice first timer’s lift-​a long not so steep or flat slope for newbies!
–The park got super crowded around lunch time.
Would definitely come here again! Can’t wait until they connect PC and Canyons next year!
