I purchased an Obi for my Iaido class. Yes guys they have«stuff» for men there as well. The owners were very polite and business-like professionals. Remember! You are not in Chinatown where you touch and play with cheaply made articles and not even buy anything. It was my impression that she selects every product in Japan and brings it here. She seems proud of the products she sells because they are good quality. Prices? Same compared to the average online products.

Mikko Samma and her husband are truly genuine kind hearted people that I will do business with again and again. If you are coming from the 210 north please keep in mind that when you get off and head south on Lake Blvd. you are still in the end of the north section of street. Keep heading south and soon the numbers will start over from 100 to 380 where the shop is for the South end of the street. It is located in an antique looking strip of shops. «Burlington Arcade» There really is 2 hours of free parking in the back. It is also right across the street from Macys, so turn left on Del Mar and make an immediate right into the parking lot and park down by the Macy’s end. Mrs. Mikko Samma was very kind and helpful on the phone when I asked for directions and there was never any pressure to sell. Even without any guarantee of making a sell, she really wanted me to have the kimono experience since I have never got to try one on before. The silk kimonos are breath taking and if it wasnt California I would have bought one of those. I am very happy with my cotton Kimono in the range of colors I had fantasized about since the Japan family day in Arcadia in April. The shop has two rooms filled with all kinds of artifacts, clothing,(mens and womens) even bento boxes and just everything from lucky cats to small hair pins. There is a small platform to try on the kimono. You take off your shoes and ofc I had sandals on. So I step up there barefooted and was amazed at how the Tatami felt so silky under my feet. The ones from Hawaii are so scratchy! Ms.Miko Samma was very precise in instructing me how to wrap the kimono and tie the very long obi. She went over it a couple of times and I remember the 45 degree angle you use to tie it in place and then wrap again. There is a secret fold you use to tuck the tail up under the bun roll which I forgot about in my previous education from 3 years ago at Honestly I was so in bliss an it was such a wonderful surreal experience that it was dream like… I will practice over and over until Obon festival gets here in July and they invited me to come to the shop as many times as I needed for another lesson. Her Husband was so sweet showing me videos of the actual Obon Festival in Japan. Ms. Mikko also does professional makeup, hair and photography. I feel very honored to get the attention I received and to have experienced this most exquisite shop. *Bows to honor Mrs. Mikko Samma and her Husband. Adomo Aarrigtto !!! Lydia, I am glad that the toddler wasnt allowed to run free in that shop. The fact that anyone would think that letting a toddler age baby run free in any shop is ok or appropriate is mind blowing. I mean REALLY? Good for you Mrs. Mikko for putting your foot down. A true Japanese that knows what honor and respect really is.

I used to love going to this store because all of the interesting little things they have. My friend and I went into the store today after having lunch near by with my 2 years old daughter and I was absolutely discussed by the owner’s attitude towards my daughter. She was yelling at her because she laid her little hand on one of the things on the display table. I would appreciate if she could kindly tell her not to touch instead of yelling at her. We left the store right the way after she yelled and on our way out the old lady gave us the dirtiest look ever. I will never go back to this store ever! I don’t enjoy things sold by people with an ugly heart!

They don’t answer the phone regularly during business hours. When I finally got through, The lady I spoke to was not very helpful and condescending at times when asking very basic questions. I would not recommend going to her for kimono rentals. Very rude.

Being half Japanese, it is delightful to see an actual real kimono shop in Pasadena. There are many accessories, not only for the traditional Japanese. If you like fabrics and patterns, you’ll like this shop. As any kimono shop, you can buy leftover kimono fabric which make great basics if you want to do some sewing and hand crafting.

What a wonderful shop and wonderful resource for those looking for authentic Japanese kimonos & assessories. I rented a kimono for my son’s ShichiGoSan photo session. The shop seems to have all your kimono needs. The owner was wonderful! We went in for a fitting to have my son measured and to choose a kimono. She was very personable and had a great repour with my son while he tried different kimonos. On the big day, she dressed him in layers of kimonos while talking to him and keeping him entertained. It took about 45 minutes to dress him & it was a great experience for my son. I definately recommend Kimono no Kobeya for all your Japanese kimono needs!

This place is so unique and really a little slice of Japan in Pasadena. It’s a cozy little kimono shop reminds me of a smal kimono seciotn in a Japanese department store. It has everything you’d need for a kimono ensemble. Naga juban, han eri, kimono, haori, tabi, kanzashi, hakama, uchikake, zori… you name it. Although, you don’t have to know anything about kimono to appreciate this store. There’s lots of cute gift ideas from wallets, purses, etc that are made out of kimono or obi fabric. Plus, it’s just amazing to look at. The fabrics and items are just treasures to behold. The owner is extremely friendly and she is more than happy to tell you about any of the kimono items and even ask you to step onto her tatami mats to let you try them on. She is very skilled at kitsuke(kimono dressing) and will show you how to wear them properly. She mentioned to me that she goes to Kyoto twice a year to buy the stock for the store. Since kimono and many of the accessories to kimono are works of art, things can easily cost in the $ 100-$ 300 dollar range depending on the age and quality of the item. You can easily buy a few beautiful items in here and still have it be less $ 100 though. I know they also to kimono photography here as well as wedding rentals. Overall, a gorgeous place and I can’t wait to go back!

When you arent looking for treasure, it suddenly finds you and its quite a surprise! I live around the area and yet I never really take the time to just walk around, but last week I decided to take a stroll down lake and really take a look at what’s there instead of driving past the stores. I found that on one side of the street, there are actually corridors to more stores but hidden away from the view of the street. This is where I found this store. It has so many cute japanese related gift items and kimonos! They sell really beautiful kimonos and very adorable japanese gift items. They are a bit expensive though. Its very cute and quaint and the ladies who run are so friendly and adorable.
