5 stars on their casting pond — well maintained and clean water to wade in for both single handed and 2 handed casting. 0 stars on their club members — they are very snooty and stuck up. The person I felt was very negative was: Naomi Okamoto. Her attitude was a very typical closed club that believes only one way to fly fish — catch and release & single handed fly fishing. She obviously is not a teacher of fly fishing because she violated many rules in the Federation of Fly Fishing Code of Angling Ethics: Rule # 5: Fly anglers do not judge the methods of fellow anglers. Rule #6: Fly anglers treat fellow anglers as they would expect to be treated. They do not impose themselves on or otherwise interfere with other anglers. Rule # 9: Fly anglers always compliment other anglers and promote this Code of Angling Ethics to them whether they fish with a fly or not. I think that type of closed mentality shown by Naomi is a purist’s type of thinking. Might work well in a more affluent area, but in LA County where you have a diversity of people, that type of purist mentality shows bias and stereotypism. If the club representative came forward and said, we support all types of fly fishing including retaining, eating the fish, and 2 handed spey /switch fly fishing, I would have loved to become a member. This is an elitist club only for«sheep» folks. Come here only to use the casting pond without being a member — it’s free at all park open times and it’s maintained by the City of Pasadena.
