See the paintings in the photos? Cute, right? They are all for sale at Q Wang Gallery for $ 20,000 each. At first I thought it was a joke. There is a term called folk art that encompasses Wang’s untrained«paint from the heart» style, and even the most FAMOUS folk artists do not command those kinds of dollars. I found it really hard to see much talent in these paintings if they are by an adult. They’re flat and one-dimensional. There’s no movement or texture conveyed in brushstrokes. There’s little to no visual interest. I suppose they’re okay from a color and composition standpoint, but $ 20,000 is an insult to anyone’s intelligence. I was recently in Santa Fe, one of the most expensive and exclusive destinations for art in the world, and I saw better stuff by famous, celebrated, talented artists for less than half that price.
