I have never before been inspired to call someone a ‘quack’ but that was my impression of Dr. Singh. I saw Dr. Singh this fall and found him dismissive and condescending. During our session, he appeared to actually be bored — he made it clear with his words, attitude, and body language that he found me tiresome. This was my first visit to a psychiatrist, and it took a lot for me to be able to go, both personally and financially, as I don’t have health insurance. It was very upsetting for me that Dr. Singh treated me in this matter. Since having seen him, I have found another psychiatrist who treats me very professionally, so I know that my treatment by Dr. Singh is not the norm for psychiatric care. During my visit, I made it clear that all expenses I had were out of pocket, and requested that he prescribe drugs that were generic or affordable. He stated that he prescribed _____to «nearly all» of his patients, and was prescribing it to me as well. Even at WalMart, the drug he prescribed was $ 500 a month. Also during my visit, I explained that I had been feeling somewhat anxious and had such profound issues sleeping that I rarely slept more than 1 – 2 hours a night, even with the sleep aids my family doctor had prescribed. Dr. Singh told me that my sleep issues were a by-product of my anxiety and utterly dismissed them. I tentatively mentioned that I had hoped to find a sleep study to participate in and he told me that my sleep issues were«Anxiety, nothing more!» and wrote me a prescription for an anti-psychotic. Just to emphasize that: I told Dr. Singh I was having issues with anxiety and sleep. And he prescribed an anti-psychotic. My new psychiatrist was aghast when I told him this. He has not prescribed me ANYTHING like that, and I’m doing much better now– on standard treatments for anxiety and sleep issues. Dr. Singh also requested a «brief» family history. I told him three sentences about my parents and he off-handedly diagnosed them as being bi-polar and borderline personalities, respectively. I found my session with Dr. Singh rather traumatic and would report him to his licensing board, but I can’t stand to see him again. Please don’t go and see him. He is a quack, and possibly a rather dangerous quack.
