Studio 55 Salon

A friend of mine found Studio 55 on Unilocal and I have never had a better haircut. I live in Athens, Greece and I am headed home to Hawaii to see my Mom. We found out recently that her cancer is back and she started losing her hair after the last chemo round. I’ve been wanting to shave my head so that she is isn’t the only bald one in the family. Had a long layover in LA and figured now was the best time.
Just awesome. Didn’t charge me. Told me to donate the money I would have paid for the haircut to cancer research instead. Thanks Curtis. It is one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me. I’ve been in a really bad place. My mom means so much to me and that small bit of kindness, of love, that Curtis showed me put a smile on my face that has been missing the last couple of weeks. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
If I ever find myself in LA again, even if I don’t need a haircut, you can bet I will be stopping by Studio 55.

This has now become my go-​to salon. I’m not a regular at hair salons but this is my favorite. Ever since my previous hairdresser cut my hair extremely different to the way I wanted it cut was when I decided I was never going back again. Curtis is very honest about his opinions and very professional that I feel my hair is in good hands. I have had my hair washed, cut, dyed and styled twice now and I am very content.
I was so over my long hair that if it weren’t for Curtis, I would have shaved my head! I love my hair length now and I feel I started the New Year off to a great start with this new style. I was very scared no doubt about having short hair but he did it so well that I am completely in love with my hair now. It doesn’t look awkward straight of curly. I can style it any way!
I will keep coming here due to the professionalism, inviting atmosphere, and ESPECIALLY the price! He offers a student discount and free bangs trim. I really love it here. Definitely recommended. Oh! and if you aren’t happy with the cut you can always come back free of charge! :)

Visiting from NYC I can’t speak highly enough about the amazing haircut Curtis gave me. Overall the most pleasant haircut experience of my life, no exaggeration. Experienced staff listens closely to what you are looking for and deliver! Bravo!

Love Curtis. He really knows what he’s doing and gave great styling tips I could actually use. I love that he opens at 7:30 am on Saturdays as I’m off and going early in the mornings. It’s a tiny salon and it packs up quick. Remember to bring your checkbook as no credit cards are allowed. Not perfect score as if there’s a line he’ll rush and he talks up a storm especially of other customers who make him angry.

I love Curtis! He is very down to earth and I enjoy the conversations we have while he cuts my hair. It seems like his schedule is pretty full, so I’d advise making an appointment ahead of time, but I see that as proof that he runs a good business and keeps his customers coming back. I moved out of the Pasadena area to Long Beach and I still come up for Studio 55!

Caesar is really bad cut man’s hair Never let Caesar cut. I’m really angry. He give me a really bad hair cut and when he cut my hair he also talking.

Needed a hair cut and stumbled upon Studio 55, which is a 3 minute walk from where I work. Thought I should give it a shot and walk in during lunch, and Leila was able to help me right away. Got back to work 20 minutes before my lunch ended! She was fast and precise. I was also going in blind since I didn’t have my glasses on, so I trusted her 100%. I knew what I wanted but Lelia also suggested cleaning my hair up a bit and everything turned out great! Would definitely come back. She also mentioned if I ever needed to trim my bangs, to just come back and she’ll do that for me. :)

Definitely love love love this place and it’s ever so convenient! I literally can walk to here from work.
I’ve been coming to this salon after experiencing half done chop jobs at other salons. I do have to mention the reason why I keep coming back to this specific salon. Her name is Leila
Leila by far has been my favorite stylist. She has done anything and everything for me. From a simple hair cut to dying my hair!
I’ve literally gone through 3 color transformations with her and each time she nails it on exactly what I wanted. I’ve literally gone from the horrid remains of a burgundy color that I had done at a cheap salon, to a black/​brown, to all black, and now to my beautiful ombré color she did a few days ago. She’s such a friendly person! I even brought my mom to get a cut and dye from her! Definitely recommend you get you hair dyed by Leila.

Best haircut I’ve ever received! Curtis is amazing. I can’t believe what a deal it is and how great it is. I’m recommending this place to all of my friends. The haircut took about 5 minutes for medium length hair, and I wake up every day with my hair looking wonderful.

Curtis knows his stuff but I never really got the cut that I was looking for even after the 1^st follow up cut. He was honest and told me that I do need to find a barber and develop a relationship to get an idea of my style and tastes. He is super friendly but at the same time seems super busy with managing the whole place. I won’t be coming back but I had a good experience here.
I’ve since found that I can get great haircuts at a nearby student salon in Santa Monica!

I’ve been researching local salons that donate your hair as well as cut and style it. I almost gave up until I came across studio 55 salon. I work nearby so decided to stop by on my walk break yesterday and confirm if they do donate and cut. Leila was so nice and said that if you donate, they give you the student rate of $ 35 which is really good for long hair — all other places charge from $ 50-​$ 75. My hair was almost down to my waist and decided to call during lunch and see if they have room for me. Leila got me in at 2pm and I had my donation cut, shampooed, and an angled bob in about 40mins! I’m still getting used to my new hair but I love the cut!

I have been needing to get my hair trimmed for a while now and the amount of salons in the area are a bit overwhelming. So I found myself researching places to go to, then something about this place caught my attention. I have had my fair share of bad hair salon experiences in the past, therefore I have my trust issues.
However, I read the countless great reviews and decided to give Studio 55 a chance. I gave them a call and Curtis, the owner, was able to get me in later that day.
I arrived for my appointment and he was very friendly and talkative! He works very fast and is very efficient. He educated me on my hair and I am 100% satisfied with my experience. For the price, it’s unbeatable! I will definitely be going back from now on and I would recommend Curtis at Studio 55 to anybody I know looking for a fast, efficient, professional hair salon. I can honestly say I trust him with my hair; and ladies you know that is not often you hear someone say that!

I’ve been here a handful of times for a bang trim. My hair grows fast, and my bangs grow even faster, so every month or so I need to get them trimmed. Curtis consistently does an amazing job. He’s incredibly friendly and efficient as well. I’ve had a lot of bang trims over the years, and he’s the only person I’ve found to consistently cut them exactly the way I like and make them look good every single time.
He has always told me that the trims are free, even though I’ve never gotten a haircut from him before. Personally I believe good work should be rewarded, so I usually tip him $ 5-​$ 7 for his time.
This place is really good at what they do, everyone is incredibly friendly, and I’ve noticed a lot of loyal long-​time customers every time I’m there. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to get your hair done.

Really love this place! Leila is the best! She always does a great job on my hair and is so friendly and welcoming. my friend drove from Pomona to get her hair fixed from a previous hair coloring that went wrong. And Leila made my friends hair beautiful!

Curtis cuts hair super fast, like alarmingly fast. And then another dude blow dries your hair. This place is like a super efficient machine. Gotta give Curtis props on his business model. I at first thought my hair cut looked really blunt in the back, like you could tell where the scissors just hacked it. And I had to cut some pieces myself. BUT DESPITE ALL THIS, the hair cut somehow magically stands up and is one of my better cuts. Go Figure. It literally took him like 5 minutes to cut my hair. The Blow Dry guy was hilarious and very talkative.
Go here if you hate spending time in salons or if you are super rushed. He most likely will be able to squeeze you in because he cuts hair in 5 minutes.
Curtis also gives nice discounts to students and teachers. He was a former teacher.

First time. Curtis was amazing, so warm, friendly and easy to carry a conversation with the entire time. Love he haircut. Cesar did a great job with the blow dry as well! Was shocked at what a great deal the whole wash, cut, and dry was! Will definitely be back and recommending it to others.

Just walked in today and had my haircut immediately with Caesar. He’s sweet and really nice.
You can tell that I’m a very quiet and dont-​know-​how-​to-​keep-​on-​a-​conversation-​with-​people person but Caesar tried to talk to me all the time, and I appreciate that.
I love the haircut. I didn’t show him a picture or anything, i just said i want my hair shorter. And he cut my hair carefully, make sure that I will like it in the way he is going to cut it. My hair is really thick and he was trying to not make it heavy.
And i love the atmosphere at studio 55. Definitely come back for Caesar.

Believe the hype! Curtis is amazing. His business is a hidden gem of Pasadena.
Came here for a cut yesterday after reading all of the 5-​star Unilocal reviews and I was not disappointed. He knows hair so well, asked me questions about how I normally dry and style my hair, gave me suggestions about how to treat my hair and of course gave me a perfect cut! Not to mention he is one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet! The little house-​turned-​studio is no frills but Curtis’ work speaks for itself.

I called in at 11AM today and was able to get an appointment at 1:30PM! I have been looking for a hair stylist for quite some time that I can call my own and go back to and be happy with each time and I definitely have found that with Curtis. He is very personable and actually wants to get to know you. He’s not one of those stylists that ask you questions and just forget about it just to make small talk while they’re doing your hair. He actually sat down with me prior to the cut and sitting in the stylist chair to ask me what I wanted.
The thing I like most is that he gave me what I wanted and was able to get me in and out within a half hour. Now, my hair cut is extremely easy to do but I like places that doesn’t lollygag and just waste time. Thank you so much Curtis, I look forward to seeing you for each hair cut from here on out.
