Service was thoughtful and fast– exactly what I was looking for. I said I was in a hurry and what would be the fastest. She knew right away, and it was a great recommendation. Food was very tasty(I got the croissant breakfast sandwich– it had fresh tomato and avocado… Yum!!). Good portions, too. It was even good cold. I sort of love that they have ice cream and café foods– its pretty unique and a charming combo. $ 2 coffee and $ 7 breakfast sandwich is a pretty great deal. I’ll definitely be back!

Not my new favorite Pasadena coffee shop. Their new spot is larger than the location they moved from across the way, but the place was absolutely empty when I was there, so I’m not sure why they felt the need to expand. Perhaps they needed the space for overflow from El Portal? Anyway, the real reason I was there was for the coffee, which was bad to mediocre. They use powdered chocolate and vanilla as flavoring, and the shots weren’t so nice. It was kind of like if 7-eleven served instant vanilla espresso. Yeah, I wasn’t feeling it. Their ice-cream looked delicious, and I’ll go back to give that a try, but as far as the coffee goes, my search continues…

A rare combination of good coffee, friendly people, and nice quiet place to sit outside and read a book or write Unilocal reviews.

A charming, locally run coffee shop located in Arcade Lane on Colorado Boulevard that serves Fosselman’s ice cream! Yes, that fact in itself deserved to be shouted out to the heavens and you fellow readers. I love that you can make yourself comfy at the indoor bar or sit outdoors and order food from two of its sister restaurants, El Portal or its most casual fair restaurant, Yahaira’s. Their coffee is nothing extraordinary and they’ve been bold enough to experiment with different concoctions, which sounded good in theory but missed its mark in the final tasting stage. At least with me it did. On the other end of their spectrum, with their hot chocolate(Abuelita), I found it stale previously ground chocolate perhaps which loses not only its aroma but those distinct flavors that set this chocolate apart.

Unilocal really should offer categories to rate ’cause I could really use it in this review. In my quest to try non-chain non-major store coffees, I found this place via Unilocal.Mind you, I’m usually in the vicinity at Vromans or Laemmles or Target but never saw Coffee Tree cause I never wandered into Arcade Lane. Shame!!! That’ll teach me not to get off the beaten track. Anyway, the staff is very nice and the store is clean, but the coffee is mediocre at best. Even one of their strongest didn’t pass as medium in my book. I would go back and try something else.

I discovered this place with my friend and we both loved it! it’s a really cute, quiet café that’s tucked away in the Playhouse District of Pasadena. I would have given them 5 stars but my iced mocha tasted like straight up cold chocolate milk =/but my friend got their Vanilla Au Lait and I had a sip and it was really yummy! :) Also they provide free wifi, which will come in handy if I ever come in to study. The staff is also very nice! Overall I give them a 4.5, which is pretty awesome in my book!

I am a dedicated and passionate Tea Drinker and due to the fact that i am already pretty much MANIC all the time… I abstain from espresso/coffee. I love the loose tea I bought here. The quality is absolutely wonderful! They have free wireless and let me order from my favorite mexican restaurant El Portal, which is wonderful when café sweets aren’t my thing(DAMNYOUSUGAR!!!)

all kidding aside, this was one of the reasons why i decided to buy my condo the next block over… b/c of this cute lil nook and cranny café. it’s in the pasadena playhouse alley, with floor to ceiling glass walls, an assortment of different types of coffee beans, and a quiet calming demeanor. you feel like u landed urself in a time warp, and old quaint mom n pop shop in the hollows of the busiest street in pasadena. colorado blvd. u half expect to see ghosts of patrons past walking around in top hats. i’ll be honest, since moving, i’ve only been there but for about 6 or 7 times, but have vowed to visit more often. wish the staff were more friendly, but maybe it’s b/c half the time my squeaky dog is left frantic outside the glass walls waiting for me as i get my coffee. ah wells, nothing is still as p.e.r.f.e.c.t. as this little coffee shop.

First impressions are lasting impressions, and when I walked into the Playhouse District for the first time looking for the Coffee Tree I knew I was coming back and back and back and back(ok you get the picture). A very quite haven(besides the heated political debate going on between two regulars when I walked in) off of Colorado Blvd, reminded me a bit of England for some reason… The coffee tastes good(a helluva lot better than Starbucks). There are trees and flower pots everywhere and the barista was cute, helpful, friendly, and hard working. Definitely worth coming here, you won’t be disappointed. Oh yeah the internet requires a password but they don’t charge for internet so I guess it is free(just gotta get a drink)… As of 3−1−09 it was mochalatte

It feels like Santa Barbara while sitting in the brick-clad alley in the Playhouse District. I’m wearing Havianna’s so I feel especially relaxed and the discussion between two older men of… South American… descent makes me feel like I am taking a breather before continuing on my travels. Walking into the Coffee Tree, you are hit with the most inviting and friendly aroma… Starbucks never smells like this anymore. The girl behind the counter was cute and as sweet as can be. I ordered a caramel latte and my friend ordered a hazelnut latte. Unfortunately for my friend, the hazelnut latte tasted as if someone snuck in a half ounce of wild turkey and a half ounce of kerosene. She had me taste it because like anyone that suspects they might have been poisoned, she wanted a second opinion; or maybe she wanted to take me down with her. I don’t know what was wrong in that latte, but whatever it was I know it was just an anomaly for my caramel latte tasted just fine. And even though that damned hazelnut latte was by the far the worst coffee drink that’s ever«graced» my lips, I am certain it would never happen again.

I simply love it here. It’s tucked away in a quaint little ally in the Playhouse District in Pasadena. The times that I’ve been here, it’s never crowded. So if you want to go somewhere quiet away from home to do some work or study, this is the place. The person working there is very friendly. The décor is warm and homey, with a nice little garden patio just outside. Prices here are average for a cup of coffee, $ 1.50 for a small and $ 2.00 for a large. It’s all you can drink, they don’t charge for a refrill, unlike otherplaces that I won’t mention(Sbux) :)
