Not upscale! The two stars are for the location and fact that this place would be awesome under different ownership. The people at the front desk are terrible and you don’t even get towels which is strange because they market themselves as a spa. Also you don’t get a locker unless you book a treatment so be prepared to carry all your stuff down to a tub. We picked this place because we thought it would be kind of upscale compared to Franklin Springs but now I’m leaning more towards Franklin because at least they don’t hold themselves out to be more than rustic hot springs and you know what to expect. This place acts like they are upscale but it’s far from being a luxury spot.

I’ll try and make this short and sweet: My girlfriend and I found a used tampon hanging out of the filter of our outdoor tub. Disgusting. I’m not one to go looking for free stuff, but receiving at least maybe a partial refund for, ya know, finding biohazardous waste in our outdoor spa tub might have been nice. At least we didn’t find any shared hypodermic needles laying around. I probably won’t be back because, as Jimmy Fallon put it best… EW! If you are wondering why it wasn’t 1 star… well, the facility was nice.

A little difficult to get to and pretty no frills, but this place is dirt cheap and will definitely warm you up on a cold Paso Robles winter day. Located at the top of a winding pass, River Oaks is a standard mineral hot springs. A Unilocal check-in gets you 10% off a soak, so remember to make a reservation(indoors if cold, outdoors if warm), and check in once you get there. The locker rooms are very modern and clean, and you can even buy some scented gel for the spa to reduce the smell of sulfur. For a soak for an hour for 4 people, you will only have to pay about $ 42. Fantastic deal, and you can also order champagne, wine, and beer to enjoy while you soak. If you want, they have massages available as well. Great way to spend an afternoon in Paso Robles, especially if you had a long weekend of wine indulgence.

My husband and I have been here several times now. The pricing is good, especially compared to other mineral springs in our area. We have enjoyed our hot tub soaks for the most part, other than the fact that my husband contracted«hot tub folliculitis»(pretty much a rash caused by dirty water) the first time he used one of these tubs. Went to the dermatologist and got it diagnosed and cleared up in a few weeks. Thought we’d give them another chance and haven’t had a problem since. My biggest issue is the blonde lady who gives massages. She talks through the whole dang thing! Some people like to… ahem…relax…during their massage. Just saying.

Private indoor tub for two for an hour is $ 24. Call and reserve ahead. Facilities are clean and the views are serene. Bring your own towel. Friendly girls at the front.
