Our son has been attending Pataskala Martial Arts Academy 3x a week for over a year and loves it. We first started attending because of a bully issue at school and wanted our son to be more confident and have the ability to defend himself, if needed. During our time at the dojo, we have experienced many positive things, including the highly trained, helpful instructors. The relationship that Chuck has with his son’s is great and it is obvious that the family is doing what the love to do. Our son has learned and is continuing to learn amazing things and also enjoys the positive reinforcement and confidence building he receives while at the dojo. We hope to be members for years to come. We only wish we would have started earlier.

My son is a student at this academy and has attended 3 times a week for about 2 months. Growing up thinking that Karate was about focus and discipline I thought this would be a good experience for my 6 year old son. The staff that I have met so far is a father and two early teen sons. He enjoyed it at first but it has since quickly disintegrated. He still has an interest in it but the staff is unfortunately very unenthusiastic about it. I understand about being direct and discipline but it often seems like the are just talking at the kids and punishment without a reason. They have them do pushup for not listening which I understand but they do not seem to explain why they are standing the way they are or why they are training the way they are nor do they praise for a job well done. In stead of doing functions as a group they stand in lines and one at a time do rolls or gymnastics. All of the standing without any effort towards hustle seems to cause the kids to lose focus. The father that leads the class is great with the kids and helps them maintain form and control. The two teenage boys however are often goofing off, unenthusiastic, very quiet, and does not pay attention to the kids or encourage them. I do not like the interactions they have with the children. Currently I am undecided about how long we will remain here. I am researching other options. I am going to discuss this with them. This would be a great school with a little more focus on professionalism and fun.
