Who needs Napa?! This gorgeous field of blueberries is the quintessential pastoral California landscape! The patch is an ‘experiment’ by the father-son team. They actually own miles and miles of blueberry fields, and have just opened this small patch for upick. $ 5 for a pint of organic fruit– a little steeper than Vons($ 4), but you eat as many as you pick, there is no ‘entry fee’ and the experience is priceless. My children loved it. We decided to go on a whim and showed up at 4:30. We picked until close at 6, then laid our blanket in the hay and enjoyed dinner lit by the sun setting over a fragrant grapefruit orchard. Our view of rolling hills covered with grapevines and citrus trees cast a romantic spell over our meal. If only I had thought to pack a bottle of wine! Beware though, your kids will fill their buckets to overflowing and before you know it, you’ll be emptying your wallet to pay for 8 pints like we did! lol!

Had a wonderful time yesterday at the farm. Blueberries are sweet and fresh, owner taking us on the tractor around the farm. Beautiful view, relaxing, great place for picnic and our kids enjoyed very much.

Had a blast picking blueberries today! We went up and got four pints. Charges are $ 5 per pint, your bucket can hold two pints, and you can taste the berries as you pick! The recent heat wave caused some berries to ripen quicker than expected, so the block at the front is open now. Lots of sweet berries, and a tart strain as well if that is what you are into. My little girl loved running around picking berries and eating them right off the bush. She is 1.5 years old and everything was right at her height, unlike when we went apple picking. Parking was ample, and it was easy to get to. Just don’t get distracted by the horse on the right or you’ll miss the turn. I did, and had to turn around when I came to a T intersection. They said they should be open till at least June 1st, and if more people come they might stay open as late as July. They offer cold water up front for no charge, but I’d suggest packing your own as well, especially if you’ve got children. A great outing from San Diego, I hope they open it up again next year!
