Great beer, great service, and the tastings are free! How the living hell do you give them any rating less than five stars? We came in with a groupon which usually translates to what a waste of time your cheap ass is going to be. Not here! We were offered various, and unlimited, samples of their brews to include some off the market experimental beers. Tucked in the back of an industrial area typical of smaller brew houses we had not much of a problem locating the joint. I am excited to live so close to Cottrell and will be back when I run out of their awesome beer.

Awesome brewery– free samples and free tour! We paid for the $ 5 glass to make up for it but they were so friendly and nice. The beer was also very good. 4⁄5 on tap were their own though they contract a lot. There is a nice patio outside but you can only eat out there. There is a lot of space in the tasting room but it is very industrial. The bar tenders are nice and all work there!

It would be easy to miss this place since it’s in the back of a big warehouse and the parking area isn’t well lit. Fortunately I kept driving around the building, went towards the open door, and ran into Tim who works there. Tim took me inside and told me about the different beers they produce and gave me samples of each. Throughout that time he and the other fella working were educating me on how some of the beers were made and just chatting about various jobs we’d held. The beers were great, especially the scotch ale, and the guys working there made for good company. I had a really good time and was treated like a local(despite having told them I was from Texas). I will absolutely come back next time I’m in the area!

The beer is amazing, the staff is friendly, and the service is quick! This is a great place to stop by with visitors to grab a tour and tastings. Their events are always very fun.

We stumbled upon Cottrell on accident. It was hot, muggy, and generally miserable outside, and were glad to see Cottrell just off the side street. Inside, it was much of the same, with industrial grade mega fans to keep the air moving, but it did little to ease our discomfort. The tasting room guy had to almost yell to be heard over the din of the fans, but we did decide to do a tasting anyway. The four flagship beers are decent with a typical old-school European flair. They also had a beer they brewed for another brewery that we were also able to taste, which was similarly ok. At the end of the tasting, we were told the staff person was going to open one of the two year whiskey barrel aged beers, which intrigued us. He poured us a stout-colored taste that would change my opinion of Cottrell forever. The top notes were of a sweet whiskey, then it melds into caramel, pralines, and toffee, punctuated by tartness, and finishing with hazelnut and port smoothness. I closed my eyes and savored each sip, delicious and flavorful. We were given a discount on these barrel aged beers, called Foggy Night, which was originally Perry’s Revenge. After seeing how much we enjoyed this small crafted and exclusive brew, the tasting room guy told us about another delight. He brought out a gin barreled brew, which excited my husband due to his cultured palate on gins. We bought two of each, and greedily took them home and immediately opened up one of the gin barreled brew. Absolutely as good as the Foggy Night($ 12), this aptly named Juniper Bridge($ 10) was a not to miss as well. With no real parking, a tasting room in desperate need of some creature comforts, and mediocre basic beers, Cottrell was a long shot for high ratings in my eyes. After tasting the limited edition wares, our viewpoints of Cottrell changed drastically to one of surprised devotion. I’m super excited to have found this place, and recommend anyone to go after these while they’re still around.

Super friendly ‘tenders and free samples! Our visit to Cottrell a couple of weekends ago was a blast. We enjoyed sampling their line of tasty brews and chatted up the staff and other beer drinkers. It was great that you didn’t have to pay if you opted to drink out of a plastic cup but you also have the option of purchasing a tasting glass for cheap. It’s a quick walk from downtown Westerly, which is nice if you want to grab a bite to eat first. Delicious beer and we picked up a case of their pilsner which was on special for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend checking it out if you are a fan of good craft beer.

Interesting out of the way brewery in the area. It is in a warehouse. The kid working was very nice and informative, though a tad slow and easily distracted. Someone would walk in and with the chatting, we were waiting a bit too long between samples, with only 2 other people there also sampling. The samples were good. An ok stop.

On a drive from Boston to New Jersey we wanted to stop at a brewery. Unfortunately everyone does there toes on weekends. Luckily when we called they welcomed us in even though they weren’t open. Once we arrived they allowed us to sample all of there wonderful brews. We were also lucky to meet the owner, who brought us out a special batch. Overall great experience with very nice employees. We purchased howlers, and bottles to go.

big facility. a bunch of decent beers to try. kinda weird location, around the back of a warehouse. if you like trying different beers it is worth stopping in. guy pouring was friendly and knew a lot about their beers and others. they do growler fills here too. not sure which beer i liked the most.

For such a long and well established brewery, I did not walk away from this place very satisfied. The biggest let down of Cottrell was that our favorite tastes were beers that are contracted to Cottrell, not made by them. There is no tour, at least we weren’t offered one. Just a free tasting. We had 5 beers, two were for contracts and 3 of Cottrell’s own. The Mystic Bridge IPA was the best from Cottrell, in my opinion. However, If you like English or Scottish style ales, you may find Cottrell’s offerings more to your liking. It was on our way from Grey Sail, so we visited, but next time we will skip it because we were just underwhelmed.

A big dumpy and dingy warehouse that happens to offer tastings, tours, and sales of average beer. The tastings are free and they have 6 beers on tap, including a guest brewery(Revival) that is a contract brewer. The price is right(free) and the guy running the tasting was very chatty(in a good way). If you in the area worth a trip but Grey Sail and Beer’d offer much better quality beer and tasting rooms. So if you’re going to support local brewery give your business to one of those who are focused on quality.

Dropped in yesterday for look-see and a tasting. Had ice cold samples of Summer Ale(a nice wheat), Old Yankee Ale, and Perry’s Revenge(a dark beer that reminded me of Guinness). I like a cold beer as much as the next guy, but for some reason, I didn’t love any of these brews. The brewery interior is a bit on the dishelveled side and reminded me of the Sanford & Son shop — with hoses, tanks, kegs, boxes and pallets stacked all over the place. But the staff was very friendly and accomodating, and the beers were ice cold. How can you not love a local brewery that sells growlers of freshly made local stuff?

Support your local brewery! Stop by for a tasting. They usually have 2 of their beers on tap. I’m partial to their Old Yankee Ale which has extremely high marks on Beer Advocate. They also have an IPA& sometimes a seasonal brew. If you want to take some of their beer home they offer 64 oz. growlers that can be re-filled for $ 7. You could always pick up a six pack or t-shirt too. They are in an industrial park tucked away on a side street in Pawcatuck so I’d recommend checking their website for hours & directions if you plan on making the trip.
