Surf the Earth

Fantastic surf lesson. Everything was perfect from the woman we spoke to in the shop to the lesson itself.
My daughter is the kind of person who needs someone to be gentle with her but also respectful of her abilities and willing to stretch and challenge her. Sometimes when I tell people that they give me that look like «Yeah lady. Whatever.»
But the people at Surf the Earth really took our needs to heart and recommended a teacher — Blake — who was just perfect. Our daughter worked really hard and had a great time. She was up and riding waves in about 30 minutes with no experience.
The waves were unusually large and the water was choppy but Blake took it all in stride, kept her safe, and was still able to get in a great lesson.
We will definitely use Surf the Earth again next year!

Have rented here two years in a row. This year, did it all online and got a fantastic Hobie Quest kayak for the week. They dropped it off and picked it up, no fuss, no mess. Got a paddleboard last year, same deal. It’s a well oiled machine.

I posted a 5 star review last year, because we’ve rented surf boards and gotten surf lessons from them for the past 7 years. They have been awesome! This year… they were less than adequate. We booked a sunset kayak trip through the marsh almost 3 weeks ago, and came all the way to South Carolina from California with this plan in mind. They went ahead and let us know this afternoon that we were no longer going because the weather did not permit. Today it is 86 degrees and sunny with wind of 8mph and a 10% chance of rain… doesn’t seem like adverse weather conditions to me. To be fair it was raining earlier today, so if I were to speculate they canceled the earlier trips because of the weather, and the guide didn’t feel like coming in for the later ones. Great shop, dreadful customer service.

Great water adventure shop. Super surf apparel for both men and women, hip jewelry, bags, sunglasses, shoes, as well as kayaks, boards… Rental prices are very reasonable too. Great customer service!

My family loves to paddle board, and we use Surf the Earth every time we come to Pawleys. They have great rates on rentals, and will even come deliver the boards and pick them up for you when you’re done. They also give good advice on where to go on the creek if you do not want to paddle in the ocean.

Took their Eco Paddle Board with Graham and had a blast! Tour was a lot of fun and got to see some marine life up close and personal. My wife and my father took the tour with me and both had a very easy time with learning the very easy concept of a SUP.

Nice, classy surf shop. Was greeted faintly a minute or so after we walked in and never spoken to after that. The employees were too busy talking to each other. We shopped around and were looking for a few things we needed, but we refuse to purchase from places that don’t give great customer service, so we left.
The back part of the shop was a bit messy looking. Looked like skate stuff — wheels, trucks, etc. Would have been excited to check some of that stuff out, but no one to talk to us or help us look at what was in the case. I assume most customers wouldn’t feel comfortable walking up to three employees trash talking someone (sounded like their boss?) and ask for help. At least we didn’t.

I have gone to Surf the Earth multiple times and plan on returning soon. Each visit was just as pleasant as the next due to friendly service from people who actually care about the customers and the community. I bought a surf board a few years ago at a very reasonable price and it is still in great condition to this day. I also went there recently to return a pair of sandals that were too small and a staff member named Heather was extremely helpful, She went out of her way to find other pairs my size without going over my price range. There has always been a helpful staff member to guide me through purchases that reflect exactly what I need and at the most affordable price. You will be very satisfied with the attentive service and wide selection of inventory that Surf the Earth has to offer.

The staff is friendly, but so laid back it seemed like they weren’t always on top of things. I called two weeks in advance to make a reservation for surf lessons and specifically requested a foam board and was told no problem. However, on the day before my lesson when I went to pay they said they would have to «check and see if they had any.» Little things like this bug me because if I am told something when I reserve 2 weeks in advance, I expect them to remember and stand by it!
However, our surf lessons went off without a hitch, the instructors were really nice and easy to work with, and we all had a great time learning to surf. I would definitely recommend these guys.
They deliver anywhere on Pawley’s Island, which is a great plus so you don’t have to worry about getting whatever you rent (surfboard or kayak) to your beach house.

Jaime in the shop hooked us up with a rental surfboard for our 8 and 5 year old girls. He even loaded it into the back of our vehicle. Everyone in the shop was as nice as could be. Cool place and easy to get to off of 17. Don’t rely on your GPS to get you there, call the shop for directions… it’s about a mile south of the McDondald’s in P.I.

Great place to rent a kayak or paddle board. We also got some paddle gear and tshirts. Cool place.

Absolutely great place for bathing suits, flip flops and anything beachy!
