The show was nice, as always. All local artists displaying their crafts. This year, I saw lots of jewelry and women’s scarves. Other notable shops had glass works, paintings, ceramics and photography. It is a great place to shop local and to gift handmade presents. Overall a great spot for Holiday Shopping.

I have been trying to get to the Foundry Art show for the past couple years and this year I FINALLY made it. There are many local treasures(a great way to shop local!) and something for just about everyone with varying prices. If you don’t find a gift for a loved one, I’m sure you’ll find one for yourself! It’s very well organized, a neat, and not overcrowded(went on a Sunday). Their«checkout» process is great. When you arrive you can get a shopping basket and you are allowed to stroll around and pick up the items you wish to purchase. When it’s time to pay, you can purchase everything together at once. In my opinion, this is a great system! All of the vendors and staff were very friendly! Here are the hours/days for 2013! — I might even make it back for a second trip! A holiday tradition for my best friend and I to wander the stalls and find handmade treasures to give as gifts. I adore the Pawtucket Armory space, which allows for enough space to move between stalls and has a plentiful amount of artist gifts to choose from. All the volunteers that staff the sale are so friendly and wonderful. You are greeted when you walk through the doors with a welcome and a smile. There is a natural soap that I purchase every year. EarthWorks. WONDERFUL! We will keep this amid our annual Christmas shopping/Open to the Holiday Season tradition.

I checked this out last year with my mom, but I don’t think I appreciated it as much as I did this year. This year, for the holiday season, I really wanted to focus on locally made gifts or locally owned shops, and for that purpose this was a great venue to do my holiday shopping. I went to the opening on thursday night, which was nicely catered by Whole Foods and home baked snacks. I used that night to scope out the artists, talk to them about their stuff, and really think about what I wanted to buy. I went back on saturday with one of my friends and where I thought we might spend 30 minutes and buy just a few gifts, we left 2 hours later with almost all of our shopping done. There is a great variety of handmade art at a range of prices. With a little looking there were some great deals as well. While in the end I spent a little more than I planned on some of my friends’ gifts, I also feel like I am really giving them something thoughtful and beautiful. I appreciate all of the artists’ talents and I hope that this show continues in the future. It is open through this weekend(December 14th), so go check it out and get some of your holiday shopping out of the way.
