While working in Payette I found this place for my self and my crew to eat breakfast We have tried most items on the menu and they were very good. On most days we eat two meals here. The food is great and the staff is excellent.

A wonderful little hole in the wall diner. Coffee keeps flowing which is most important for me. Great service!!! Will definitely be back.

My boyfriend and I were out in Fruitland for work, so I scanned Unilocal to find a good lunch spot. I landed on Meechan’s in nearby Payette because the reviews were decent and I like hole-in-the-wall type places. Man, was I disappointed. From the outside, you can tell it’s a run-down local joint, but being from a small town, I usually like those! When you walk in, Meechan’s had that 30 year-old stale cigarette smell from it’s earlier bar days. Also, just about everyone in the place looked up at us with weary eyes – they could tell we weren’t from there. The waitress walked by twice as we stood at the entrance, not even acknowledging us. We finally took it upon ourselves to grab a table by the window. After about 5 minutes, the waitress brought us menus and took our drink orders. She was extremely nice, which was a relief. My water tasted like it was straight out of the tap and our sodas tasted a little funky, too. The menu is limited to typical greasy spoon options, so I went with a bacon cheeseburger and my boyfriend ordered the fingersteaks. My burger and fries were alright, not too greasy, but nothing to brag about. Just kind of bland. The fingersteaks were already nothing special, but to top it off, they were pretty under-cooked inside. Also, not too flavorful. Without any prompting as to where to pay(we didn’t receive a ticket at the table), we approached the counter to pay. To top everything else off, one of the cooks asked how long to MICROWAVE something for. What?! Ugh. Defintriely won’t be returning. And for your sake, I recommend the A&W down the street.

Visited this little town to do some antiquing and watched where all the locals were headed to eat. Everyone was headed to meechans, so we went too. At first sight the restaurant looked dirty, carpet was dingy, flies were congregating in the front of the place by the windows– but at least there were convenient fly swatters by the windows. Prices were great, staff was wonderful– quick, gave us enough privacy, and chatty when we asked questions about the town. The food was delicious, best diner food I have ever had. Tried their fish sticks, biscuits and gravy, and mini corn dogs, all were amazing. Best was their tater tots. I would go back again and again if I was closer, however I wish they would do something about the flies.

You know what is the best? Hole in the wall diners!!! I don’t say that as an insult. Heck no! I love little local diners… they usually have some stellar food and even when the food is «eh» then the people watching is usually fun. Since we have moved to Payette, I had driven by here a couple of times and always meant to try it. Well, try it we did about a month and a half ago. I waited to Unilocal on it because I wanted to be sure. Since then I’ve been back alone and with my family a couple of times and each time it was great. Now, no, it’s not five star dining… but I still give it 5 stars. When you are looking for a small restaurant experience, EXCELLENT biscuits and gravy, and coffee that keeps on coming… this is worth a little drive off of the freeway. They are open 24 hours a day on Thursday — Saturday and the rest of the time for breakfast thru dinner. They have games and pool tables for the kids. I recommend: Biscuits and gravy Patty melt(with grilled onions) The only thing we found left lacking was the burgers. They are a little run of the mill and small. Everything else was great though. Definitely on my favorite’s list!
