I’d give minus 10 stars, but unfortunately that’s not an option. The manageress is a bit persnickety? Try downright rude. She was very unhappy when I said we were only staying one night. When I told her we had no itinerary, she said«OHBROTHER!» Go to the friendly campground, not this dive.

The pluses of this place is that there are trees and it is very quiet. There are lots of hummingbirds in the trees and ravens and flickers. Very nice! What would it be like during the summer months when all the people from Phoenix flock to these higher, cooler altitudes? Many of the residents seem permanent or at least seasonal. Without the address and a few signs this place would be hard to find. It’s outside the incorporated area of Payson, a bit far from shops, etc. The area defies description. It’s residential but with all sorts of jerry rigged«good year» houses and haphazard fences. Some fallout shelters and bunkers in these hills? I would bet yes. More on the park: The WiFi is free, and the facilities are clean and actually commodious. There is a hiking trail through piñón and rock just up the hill. A donkey braying across the way added interest and surprise. And that weird alien dog barking? A domestic turkey nearby. The manageress is a bit persnickety – all dogs must be taken off the premises and onto the road in front to even pee. But she warmed up. I still don’t like taking my dog for a walk on a dusty road where trucks with homemade trailers whiz by. Otherise I am enjoying my stay here.
