My family and I are currently staying at Kohl’s Ranch Lodge for the week. We had dinner here last night and were extremely disappointed. Our waitress was nice, nothing special. The food was way overpriced for the quality. After getting noticed our waitress came and we ordered two drinks: a lemon basil martini and a margarita with chambord and fresh lime juice. After taking our orders she proceeded to ask the bartender to make our drinks. The bartender rolled her eyes and got annoyed. We then waited 27 minutes to get our two drinks. Mind you the restaurant was not busy at all. We watched her clear tables and drink her water and offer other patrons dessert. I finally went to go find a manager but he was not there he was out tending a wedding. Our waitress and for me he would be back-and-forth advisor I still wanted to speak to him I never got my chance. She then went back to the bartender and asked her again to make our drinks after proceeding to drink out of her drink she did not wash her hands. We asked our server to please have her wash her hands. The drinks were OK nothing special deathly not worth a 27 minute wait. The bartender continuously complained about how late she had to work previous nights and how the drinks were extensive. I ordered the Mediterranean pizza and doublecheck to make sure the onions did not come on it. My husband ordered the ribeye and we ordered a corndog for my son. The pizza came out covered in onions when I tried to tell the bartender she startwd to argue with me and said it was garlic she finally looked at it and realize it had onions on it. Both her and the waitress apologized and brought it back for a new one they did not charge me for this so that was OK. The ribeye looked like a piece of flank steak it didn’t even have ribeye flavor. Definitely not worth the $ 26 price. It is a shame that our dining experience was so disappointing because we like staying at Kohl’s Ranch Lodge however we definitely will not be eating here ever again. The service was horrible especially for a restaurant that depends on the guests eating there. I was shocked that a bartender could be so lazy and rude. Save your money and visit somewhere else. We went to Macky’s Grill today and the service was great as well as the food.

We stayed at Kohl’s Ranch Lodge over 4th of July weekend. The Zane Grey is on site and part of the lodge. The service was good, once we were finally noticed. Beer selection was good as well as there’s a saloon next door. They actually make really great pizza, but we were not fans of their wedge salad, which was literally half an iceberg lettuce. We returned another morning for breakfast and weren’t too thrilled with the belgian waffle and other breakfast selections. No organic ingredients to be had here! The All American breakfast was not too shabby, however… we did have to ask for them to use real eggs(instead of the fake stuff), but no fresh squeezed OJ. Considering the relatively remote location of the lodge, I’d have to say that the food is certainly not awful and the ambience, décor, staff, and general impression is pretty good. The pizza is certainly worth its salt and the nearby saloon make it a worthy stop if you’re too tired to cook or drive out to Payson for food.

After checking out Unilocal for reviews on Zane Grey I was surprised why the reviews were so negative since we had such a great experience. I found out that hey changed ownership. Complete new menu, staff etc but just kept the name. They do BBQ excellent and my kids loved the pizza. I had the prime rib special on Saturday and it was one of the best prime rib I have ever had. We stayed at Kohls Ranch over the weekend and are breakfast and dinner at Zane Grey every day. Try this new place out and Ignore the bad reviews from the previews owner’s establishment.

I’m sorry, I do not complain about restaurants/food but DONOT and I’m telling you don’t even think forget these reviews let’s try it because it’s here… again DONOT eat here. The staff is great but it’s not even like the food is Denny’s quality… it’s literally just nasty and to top it off they charge what Fargos, Diamond Shadows, and more than Christopher Creek do(all steakhouses within 15 – 20 minutes drive). If I ate any more I would honestly be afraid of food poisoning. I can even believe that the cooks and staff arent completely embarrassed and ashamed to bring this food out to people. It’s also the only good onsite at Kohls Ranch besides the vending machines… Diamond Resorts seriously need to figure this out. Im mean even upgrade it to an Applebee’s or Denny’s quality food and lower the price so there there is at least edible food on the property! We literally ate Saltine crackers to fill us up instead of eating what we got while thinking we were going out to a Steakhouse at a resort! Kohls ranch is great though… definitely get out of the phx summer heat and come up here in general… this is just about the restaurant.

Stayed at Khols Ranch and searching through the local reviews for places in Payson I decided to give this place a chance considering the reviews. To be honest the staff were overly pleasant and very patient as i started with drinks while checked the menu out to see if i should put myself through previous reviewer’s experience. From the times here I ordered the Fish fry and the Bad A burger(angus). Both meals were great no complaints, everything was fresh and well presented at a decent price. Beer was cheap.

Randy was really rude and confrontational when my friend complained. The lady at the front desk told EVERYONE the breakfast buffet was free for wedding guests, which we were. After we eat we find out… NOPE! cold food at a premium price over $ 10. thanks for the bait and switch and crap attitude when asked about it. nice to know small town folks can afford to lose repeat business in this great economy. We won’t be back. Great job Randy! You’re doing a great job!

Stayed at Kohl’s Ranch on Saturday, 5÷4÷13. For convenience we at on property in the restaurant dining room. I ordered something«new/fun,» rattlesnake bratwurst alfredo pasta. Kids ordered the kids cheeseburger & kids nuggets and my friend had the pork chops. I was told that the soda machine was not working well from another guest so my daughter and I opted for the House made lemonade. The lemonade was horrible. It tasted like it was warn and watery. We switched them out for Orange Juice, which also was too warm. I had to ask for ice to be able to drink it. The salads were just fine. My friend’s pork chops were just OK and the only thing she finished was the baked potato. The bratwurst was cut into during the cooking process drying it out, but I ate all of it anyway. The alfredo sauce was not edible and the pasta was soggy. My daughter had only taken about 4 bites of her burger and I was still hungry so I attempted to eat the rest of it. I chewed a bit then had to spit it out. It was NASTY. We had told the waitress that the alfredo as terrible and she heard me say the burger was not edible. She said she would tell the chef, but did nothing to make it right. We did not get replacement food or bill credit. The fried foods were great. The chicken nuggets and chips and onion rings were all good. So if you go there stick to the fried foods and bring your own beverage. We all left the restaurant hungry. We all had a bowl of cereal when we got back to the room.

This is my second visit to the Steakhouse. I have found both experiences to be pleasant. Each time, I had the prime rib because I had visited on Saturdays and that is the Saturday special. The rib is delicious. It is a melt in your mouth experience. The au jous is a great touch. The french fries are very good. Overall, I recommend visiting Zane Grey’s Restaurant & Saloon if you are in the area. It’s a great experience with even better food.

Have tried this place twice. Both times very disappointed in the quality of food. Service lacks ANY resemblance to its definition. Would recommend driving to Christopher Creek for better choices!

We went for breakfast because we had a credit from Kohl’s Ranch. The food was horrible. The Elk sausage was like eating a hockey puck. We heard they have great prime rib but after that breakfast we didn’t go back to find out. Thank goodness Kohl’s Ranch was paying for it.

The wait staff at Zane Grey’s is friendly and the restaurant and saloon are clean. That is how they get 1 start. We stayed there 8÷17−8÷19÷2012. We ate in the saloon on friday night for their fish fry and drinks… that night the food was decent… the fish fry consisted of fish you would buy from the swann’s man but the potato chips were actually good. The next night due to time and proximity of any other food provider we walked to the restaurant ordered a hawaiian pizza and wings to go. We got our food about 30 minutes later and opened up the box. The wings were fried wings with no sauces, the wing sauce was in a side container so we could dip our own wings… the wings were flavorless and fired to smitherenes. The hawaiian pizza was the worst hawaiian pizza I have ever had. Who uses cheddar cheese on a hawaiian pizza. The toppings were whole chunks of pineapple that soaked the crust from above, the sauce was an after thought. The crust was the kicker… have you ever had par baked pizza… if not its where you buy it from a pizzaria, then take it home to finish baking at home. The dough was baked for about 5 minutes, cold and soft. The only part that was edible was the extreme outside ring of crust that got a little heat to it. I took the pizza back after we tired to eat what we could. the restaurant had closed, the servers were cleaning. They told me they could do nothing about it and to call the manager in the morning. I spoke with a gal named Jessica in the morning and she again had to run it by the manager Randy. He called me moments ago and said well if you didnt like it why did you try to eat it. Mind you Kohl’s Ranch Lodge is 30 minutes from Payson without any other source of food around. What were we to do. We took back more than half of the pizza, sauce, cheese, pineapple and crust in a pile of mush just like it came. Randy was unable to do anything to make up the experience and claimed that they get rave reviews for their pizza… well not from this guy. Recommendation, if you are ever at the Kohl’s Ranch Lodge… bring your own food, eat while in town and STAY away from the restaurant unless you are on liquid diet if you know what I mean. 0 stars…-5 stars for management. Stay away!
