Bay State Muffler

Unlike most chain muffler shops, this place doesn’t insist that you replace pretty much the whole exhaust system. As a result they are much more affordable. In addition, they are way less sleazy than those big chains. Got me in right away, was honest about the time it would take.
In the middle of no where on Rt 1 (Newbury Street!). If going outbound on Rt 1, overshoot to Rt 114, get back on Rt 1 South. You can get into the break down lane to hunt for the driveway. Look for the truck out front!

My muffler recently rotted out and needed to be replaced. Bay State Muffler was recommended and they did not disappoint! I made an appointment for 8:00 AM (when they open) and they took me on time and the whole crew was friendly and welcoming. They got my car on the lift and brought me underneath to show me the rusted muffler. They explained things clearly so I understood exactly what needed to be done and how they were going to address it. The price they quoted me was ¹⁄₆^th of the price the dealership quoted me!!! I was ecstatic! They got to work right away and completed the job within the hour. I was then brought back under the car to view the completed work, which was done beautifully. Everyone was extremely kind and courteous and made me feel comfortable the whole time I was there. Bay State Muffler exceeded my expectations in every way — excellent customer service, excellent workmanship, and excellent prices. I highly recommend them!

These guys are amazing. I was so relieved to find a smooth fix for a rusted off muffler and leaky exhaust pipe. They are skilled craftsmen of their trade and I would give more stars if I could! I haven’t done a Unilocal review in ages, but Bay State deserves it. This place is nothing short of amazing. Ron got me in the same day and got a pain in A manifold off of my GMC Envoy for the best price anyone could ever ask for. Everyone there is extremely personable and professional. Most other muffler shops I would never trust to do any work on my vehicles, but as far as great mechanics go they are número uno. Best bang for the buck and quick too!

Had an exhaust leak that the dealership quoted me $ 1090 to do the work. I went to Bay State– they showed us what was wrong and then came time for the quote… $ 250– I was shocked. The work was done that day and I’m under 2 hours. I definitely recommend them!

Needed some work done on my 2008 Toyota Tundra … figured I’d give it a little Big Boy Growl … Ken, Ron and Dave installed a Magnaflow exhaust system while I waited … it went extremely well … by the time I left I felt as if it was one great «car guy» hang around place … up front, honest, personable and did what I wanted … excellent experience, I would recommend them to anyone !!! They were awesome. Did the work much, much cheaper than the place across the street (think yellow sign.) They were friendly and kept me informed every step of the way. Will definitely use again, and will recommend to friends & family. I can’t believe I’ve driven by this place 1000 times… they put out high quality work at a very reasonable price. These guys back up their product. I had a flowmaster installed on my van. A year later the front end came detached. These guys checked it out, and backed it up with flowmasters warantee NO QUESTIONS ASKED… I was in and out in a few hours. Ron was professional and personable. Went here on the recommendation of Murph from Auto zone. I got an appointment for a week later, and was very pleased with the service. The owner was quite friendly, respectful and professional. The repair seems solid and the cost was quite affordable and a solid value for what I got. Ron looked through the exhaust, explained everything to me, and mentioned the leaks that had to be repaired vs those that could wait. He also recommended quite a tasty bagel place to try while I waited. Though it was a bit of a drive to get to, the drive was quite worth it and I will certainly return/​recommend Baystate muffler to anyone.

This place is the best! Honest and have extremely fair and reasonable price. My muffler was hanging. Called the this morning and schedule me for 2pm. They noticed my check engine light. They said the found a leak by the catalytic converter. They repaired the muffler and the leak. Awesome job! The own is really friendly. I will definitely refer anyone to this place.

Took my car to Bay State on a recommendation from a trusted source at end of Aug. ’15.
They were courteous, professional and cost effective– at little over ¼ the price of another Malden Meinike dealer.
Of course things could go wrong in the future but the high ratings from other customers would seem to indicate that many people have the same experience I have had.

just got work done there this morning and couldn’t be happier! Last week, seers auto center quoted me 1300 for exhaust work on my civic. when i took it in this morning I was presently surprised by a much cheaper quote here! (200!) thanks for saving me 1100 dollars! i will certainly be going here for all my exhaust work again.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! I have a 97 M3 with the original exhaust that i have been nursing along for a while now. I’ve had a few clips and heat shields that have needed some love. Bay State provides quick, accurate and wallet friendly services.
Employees are honest and do not try and upset you!

The exhaust on my 2005 Matrix was very loud late last week. After searching for a shop to fix the issue, I came across Bay State. Some of the reviews for the local Midas and Mieneke were troubling. I called and made an appointment for Saturday at 8.00 am. The counter person was very nice and helpful. They put my vehicle up on the lift, examined the exhaust system, called me into the garage and explained a clamp had rotted and they could cut and replace that part of the system The whole process took less than an hour and I was very pleased with the service, price and honesty! I told the counter person that if I knew anyone who had exhaust problems I was going to recommend this shop! A very satisfied customer

Had a very good experience with this place. My car was having a loud rattle and another place had diagnosed it as a flange having come off a portion of the exhaust system, they recommended I go to Bay State Muffler to get it worked on. Bay State was easy to get an appointment with, they were very friendly and easy to work with, they gave me a call before starting the work and explained to me what needed to be done and then charged me a very fair price to have it fixed. They finished the work same day and seemed very honest throughout the whole
process. I would recommend going here.

I needed some sort of repair on my exhaust/​muffler, though I wasn’t sure exactly what, as that’s an area of auto repair in which I’m not well-​versed. I scoured reviews on Unilocal to find someplace that looked solid, and after coming across Bay State Muffler, I was sold. I read every review posted and there wasn’t a single negative thing mentioned.
I called in advance to see if I needed an appointment and they said it was recommended, but the appointment time was basically just as soon as I could get there and seemed to be more of a formality or an assurance that I would be served in a timely fashion when I arrived. When I got to the shop, there was no wait, and staff were immediately attentive, courteous, and friendly. I didn’t feel at all like they were trying to rip me off because (a) I was a woman or (b) I didn’t know exactly what the problem was with my exhaust. Staff called me over to see the area that needed repaired, explained what the process would be, and offered me two cost options with an explanation of the pros and cons for each (and both options were inexpensive and in line with what a friend had suggested if the problem was what I thought). They were able to do the labor on the spot, even without any real advance notice, and I was in and out of the shop in just over a half hour, from walking in to walking out. The staff even suggested that I could go to Bagel World next door (which I know from experience is delicious!) if I didn’t want to wait in the shop, but I actually really enjoyed chatting with the staff and stuck around.
It was well-​worth my time and money to make the drive from Malden to Peabody to go to Bay State Muffler, and I will definitely return here for any future needs and will also recommend this shop to any friends who need repairs.

Three of the most dreaded things that can happen are
1. a root canal
2. a colonoscopy
3. a broken tailpipe/​muffler
I got stuck with #3. Luckily I gave the guys at Bay State Muffler a call. Bob slipped me into the schedule, he called me back as promised with a very reasonable quote, and I was back on the road within a few hours. What more could I ask for.
My 2000 Ford Explorer, with 187,000 miles, has a new muffler and tailpipe with a 3 year warranty.
