We tried this last summer and it did not go well. Yes the instructor was kinda a bully to the kids which only made it more scary for our daughter. The owners are never around so there’s no management. When I called to enroll Cheryl, the owner, said we were signed up for the summer. I asked about sessions, and she said we pretty much pay as we go and they don’t really do session. Wrong! So after 4 weeks when we went to pay for the next 2 weeks, we were informed that we were no longer scheduled for the next session. The whole experience turned out to be a mess.

I signed up my 2 boys for swim lessons last summer(ages 4&5). I should have known better when I observed at the first group lesson, Kristin, who was disciplining a child for crying in the pool(because he didn’t want to be there) by dunking him under water several times for crying. By several, I mean at least 7 or 8 times or more. I felt like she used bullying tactics to teach the kids and make them dunk their heads, jump from the pool-side into the water — and this was the first 2 lessons. If they didn’t do something, they would get dunked. My kids hated going here every Saturday, they were scared and intimidated by Kristin. I paid in advance for 6 classes and by the 3rd class, I had to pull them from the class as they were both crying in the pool because they had to dive under her legs and come up. This is not my style of teaching. Each lesson from the beginning, I had a nagging feeling that it wasn’t right. We never had Cheryl teach a lesson and she wasn’t around during the lessons. I was reimbursed the fees for the remainder of my lessons. I prefer a slower approach and will try another organization this summer.

ok so i was holding out to give an unbiased review after«that one» finished her first two week session @ TAA. i can hold it no more. today we went for our second day of classes(we have MWF classes), and i’m officially a fan of Charyl and The Aquatic Academy. let me start by saying, «that one» had lessons last summer at the high falootin Pearland Swim Academy. after two weeks of camp there, i basically paid $ 200 for her to sharpen her pool socialization skills. the class ratio for her age at that time, was 3 students to 1 coach, who by the way was a very nice High School kid, but not a great instructor. «that one» nearly drowned the first class, while he was working with one of the other students and his back was turned to the other two. but why am i bringing up old stuff? ok, so fast forward to today. monday was our first lesson with Charyl @ TAA. we lucked out and basically have a private lesson, as no one else registered for our time slot! love that! Charyl was able to acquire the confidence of «that one» much sooner than i anticipated. her method of teaching is patient but persistent. i am so impressed with how much my little mermaid is already accomplishing and even aspiring to do. check out her bio on her website, she’s got it going on! even her own kids are little fish!
