Simply Seafood is NOTCLOSED. It is OPENFORBUSINESS despite dirty tricks being used by developers trying to run them out of the mall. They are the last holdout in the Pier 17 mall at the South Street Seaport. It is fine fried seafood. This determined small business is standing strong despite the odds. I went to the place on principle. Go eat there.

I’ve been coming here for 10 years and I come to South Street Seaport primarily for their shrimp and chips. Definitely not frozen shrimp. The shrimp are lightly covered in well seasoned batter. I hate heavily coated shrimp so this place has my favorite fried shrimp.

Suspiciously cheap seafood in the food court at the South Street Seaport. No frills sign looked like it was made in the 1980s and hasn’t been changed since. It seemed like it was going to be that authentic no frills seafood shack kinda dive. No pictures, no combo meals, I was liking it thus far. Nice people working the counter. I opted for the Fried Clam Strips and Fries for 6 bucks. (I often have crazy cravings for clam strips and they must be appeased.) The clam strips looked good but I became increasingly alarmed as I was happily munching on them to find that they were nearly all filled with a dingy black sand. Breaded and fried right in there with the clams. It was impossible to eat! I was literally chewing sand bite after bite.(I was starving and thought, its seafood one bit of sand wont kill me) However all of the subsequent bites there after had sand and I was totally lacking in my enjoyment by that point. The french fries were skinny middle school cafeteria style but crispy and good. My friend got the Fried Shrimp Sandwich and a small New England Clam Chowder. My friend’s fried shrimp was definitely frozen and not fresh as the notion of buying fish at a seaport setting would foolishly have you to believe. Sadly I stood next to the bar waiting for my food as I watched them microwave my friends clam chowder once, then add more soup, microwave it again and then serve it to him tepidly cold flavorless and bland. My experience at Simply Seafood was off putting and I walked away hungry and let down. Clam Strip craving unappeased! I dont think I will ever come back here for seafood again, however they have a crazy cheap beer menu. Nothing fancy but take in the great views of the BK Bridge and have a Bud. Next time I know.

Great deal and meal to be had folks. Setting = South Street Seaport Venue = Simply Seafood(fast food joint within the food court) Cuisine I opted for the fried seafood entrée. Crisp french fries, hearty fish chunks, chewy clam strips, and fresh fried shrimp; all whilst taking in the setting that is the South Street Seaport. Something is always happening on the weekends, so you will not be disappointed.
