What is Easter without the aroma of hyacinths? This is what I wanted for an Easter hostess gift and was able to find a few potted in full bloom and vigor at the Peebles Flower Shop. I also found a couple small, indoor hydrangeas, a pot of tulips… aaaaand that’s about it. Oh, and a few baskets of indoor plant arrangements. The rest were antiques and giftables. As macabre as it might sound I think it’s fair to assume small town florists make most their money off funerals and the typical floral-themed holidays and events like Valentine’s, the birthdays of wives and prom. Other than that keeping a lot of plants and flowers just doesn’t make sense for them. So, in fairness I wasn’t expecting much, yet, was expecting a little more than what I found… at a flower shop. I also wanted some cut flowers-same deal. Not a lot to choose from but the employee manning the empty store was VERY nice and hospitable, allowing me to personally pick the flowers I wanted. I choose white daisies since my chooses were(you guessed it) roses, carnations, baby’s breath and something called Crazy Daisies, which were bright blue and bright green daisies. Crazy… The antiques are okay-not a lot of variety or value here. Giftables include plush Boyds Bears, candles and the like. The red paint on the front was peeling and the front porch was cluttered with a mess of antique furniture, I’m guessing? Remodeling? Spring cleaning? Such a site was a little deterring but I needed those hyacinths! So, 3 stars since I didn’t walk away empty handed and was greeted with open arms.
