Being Mexican, I set very high standards when it comes to Mexican cuisine. I love restaurants that take my cultures cuisine seriously and can show people how great our food can be. This place is basically Taco Bells version of Mexican food. The only difference is that you are paying more for the food, have less than average drinks, and being served by mediocre staff. Absolutely horrific!
I wish there was an option to give them a 0 out of 5 stars.

I had pretty delicious meal as I ordered the burrito deluxe and was happy to see a good sized portion of food. My boyfriend ordered a burrito, enchilada, and tamale all in the same plate and said it was very tasty but he could do without them drowning it in red sauce. We also ordered our daughter an enchilada with rice and beans and the beans were of great quality but the rice was somewhat dry and flavorless. The waiter was very kind and attentive of our needs. Also, we ordered the pico de gio and it was extremely tasty and fresh. Overall I would definitely go again because I loved the atmosphere and tasty burritos.

The service was poor. Food took a long time to come out. The lemonade tasted bland at best. The rice tasted and looked like it had been reheated a couple of times. The carnitas were not authentic. Honestly I would have rather gone to Taco Bell. At least at Taco Bell you know what you will get and be content with your choice. So if you love authentic Mexican food stay away. Taco Bell is better. I wish I could give this no stars.

Victor came by my table when he noticed that I’d arrived on my fully loaded bike to ask about it. When he learned that I’m on a long trip, he spent like 10 minutes asking me all about my experience. And he wished me well and offered me God’s blessings, which I accepted and offered some blessings of my own. He recommended their veggie quesadilla and made sure the kitchen made it generously. It was full of fresh, crisp, well-​grilled, and well-​seasoned peppers, onions, zucchini, and spinach. The rice and beans were well-​prepared and served, too. Besides the food, and the good energy, they keep the place very clean and comfortable.
He came back by and told me a little about how he came to open Hacienda Fuentes. It’s obvious he loves this place, meeting all of us who come in, and making delicious food.
I’ll may never be in Pekin, Illinois again, so I recommend Hacienda Fuentes to you.

Came back to give more stars! Recently visited again, and the portions were bigger, and the food tasted great. The staff was wonderful as always. Was very happy with the improvement. Well done, Hacienda Fuentes!
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to make a catering size portion of tacos/​fajitas, or such, for one solid price, instead of charging individually. It would make it easier for events, and work meetings, where you want to provide food.

Portions are huge, you won’t leave hungry. The meat can get really dry here… As well as whoever fry’s the chips is terrible at it… So over fried they have a bad grease taste to them. Love the salsa.

Good Tex Mex food and good service. (I don’t believe there is any true Mexican cuisine in this part of the country.) It’s a fun place to eat and they make you welcome. The other two (Mexican) restaurants in Pekin are now closed.

Best Mexican place in Central IL. I’m not a big fan of their new very loud décor though.
Everything I’ve had is excellent. Sometimes the staff get confused with the orders and prices but the manager usually understands and fixes it.

My hubby and I travel more than we are home and we are always skeptical of any Mexican restaurant this far north. Living on the SE coast of Texas, we have been exposed to Tex Mex and REAL Mexican food. Most places north of Texas disappoint us and this place was no exception. The service was great but the food was bland. We won’t be back. However, we did try the other Mexican restaurant in town and it was GREAT!

Not a big fan of Mexican food, but the food here is something I can stomach. Good flavor, not especially spicy and if my son will eat there, it has to be good. He’s 11 and a little spoiled. He has no problem telling the wait staff to take his plate away if he doesn’t like it. So far, nothing has been sent back. Usually you can get in, but if you’re stuck waiting the line moves pretty quick. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for some nice Mexican food.

My friends and me drove from Chicago just to eat here… and let me tell you this place is worth it totally… We had the Pollo Yucatan and Chile Authentico… one if the best Mexican restaurants ever visited… we all would not mind coming here every week for the same thing!!! Wish this place was more appreciated than it is now!!!

I have lived in California for 10+ years now and grew up in Pekin. SoCal has the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Coming home and trying this place was OK. Lots of stuff on the menu. Guacamole was on point. Salsa needed some work but was OK. I had the traditional burrito. I asked for only beans, rice, pico, and steak in the burrito. And no cheese. They screwed it all up. They covered it with cheese and brought the rice out on the side. What is that about? I didn’t complain and ate it anyway and it was delicious! You should be safe ordering straight off the menu. I have a feeling that if you try and ask for something different they’ll screw it up. They were polite and prompt though. Margaritas are delicious and only $ 2. Hopefully people in Pekin like it and they can stay open!
