Delicious! Came upon this place by accident, and we were delightfully pleased with our experience this afternoon. I drove up from Columbia to take my mother and grandmother to lunch. My grandmother lives on Lake Keowee and wanted to go find a spot for a light lunch. We drove through the square and spotted this place. It was very busy, and we received excellent service. My mother and I split the Monte Cristo sandwich with apple coleslaw. It was more than enough food to split. The sandwich was wonderful! The bread was fresh, and we couldn’t get enough of the sandwich! It was the perfect amount of sweet and savory! My grandmother ordered the quiche of the day, ham and cheese, with a side of the apple coleslaw. Afterward, we headed to the bakery for coffee and to admire the baked goods. Too full for dessert, we will definitely go back and sample the sweets soon!

Can’t beat a local bakery. Breads, bagels, pastries, cakes, cookies and more. Great if you don’t want to go to the full restaurant next door. They serve coffee, tea, and soda. A few tables available, also some outside tables. If I had a complaint, it’s that some of the pastries are too chewy. If I had to guess, they use the same high protein flour in them that they use in the bread. Still worth the trip.

I’ve been coming in here weekly for bread and pastries for a few years now. I always pick up a loaf of 9 grain for sandwiches. Baguettes, other breads, bagels and pastries are also all delicious. Have never actually ate in, only taken out. Owner is very nice. Will continue to return throughout my time at Clemson.

The Village Baker is our favorite bakery when visiting Clemson, SC. We go there just before we gather at tailgate to pick up our tailgate contribution which our friends LOVE!!! The most notable are the luscious almond sticks either with or without chocolate, truly to die for. Our friends also look forward to the great muffins and mouth watering chocolate ganache cake. You won’t be disappointed, it’s all so good.

We have been here 5 – 6 times so far. The first time, they ran out of mugs and they gave us our drinks in paper cups. The second time, we waited a total of 60 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. Third time, we made a reservationfor their Sunday brunch, and they cancelled it on us… I dont know why we keep going back to this place. I guess because there are not too many alternatives in Clemson area :( Their bakery is better than their restaurant service.

Tasty baked goodies and breads. My favorites are the almond stick, bialy, pain au chocolat and chinese almond cookie. The mint brownie is nothing special. Oh, and the coffee is terrible!

For our daughter’s third birthday we went all out — or tried to. Most all was perfect EXCEPTTHECAKE. I met with the owner to discuss what my daughter had picked out and brought pictures to show the details. The owner made copies and I was asked to email these pictures to the bakery as well so that they could enlarge them and make sure that the colors were accurate. This was to be a three layer cake in the shape of a whimsical castle finished with bright fusia frosting and purple details. «It will be no problem to make and fun too,» I was told. I was given a fair price and agreed to have them make the cake. The requested emails were sent by me as well as one asking that there be no writing on the cake(there had been discussion of putting my daughters name in the cake initially). The day of the party I arrive to pick up the cake and much to my surprise I was given a white castle cake that looked NOTHINGLIKETHEPICTURES or anything else we discussed. The shape was wrong, the color was wrong, the frosting was fondant(which she tried to sell as an upgrade), there was writing on the cake and the detailing was HORRIBLE. It was… Ugly…no other way to say it. Put it this way — I was asked if I made it!!! I honestly feel that I could have done a better job — but I digress. When I asked the owner if she had received the emails I had sent she yes, but her husband had made the cake and had misunderstood her… WHAT??? I was never offered a discount — nor an apology. Guests, as well as Cinderella, were to be arriving at my house within 45 minutes so — someone helped me load the cake in my vehicle and I cried the entire way home. To top it all off — the ugly cake didn’t even taste good and the fondant was greasy. I would dare to say we threw more than half of the cake away. Needless to say we have not been back. It’s a shame because I love a good bakery!

Slow service, mediocre food and overpriced. Several times we had to refill our own drinks and drink from paper-cups because they ran out of mugs. Very unprofessional over all… these people don’t know how to run a business…

Village Bakery was my first Sunday brunch buffet in South Carolina; they seem to abound in Texas… but out in the slower parts, these eateries are hard to come by. I just thought it was just going to offer a limited menu with a few brunch items and baked goods, but I was really excited to hear«all you can eat» when I walked in; I waited all morning to dine here. The crowd picked up really fast; 20 minutes after they opened, the line was already baked up at the buffet. The spread was fairly limited, and the $ 13 price tag was one of the highest that I have had for a meal not in Greenville. After seeing that it was over $ 10, I figured that the baked goods are probably a better sampling of what they have to offer, value-wise. The Sunday brunch may just be to appeal to those uppity diners. Breakfast: The scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon all looked very dull, so I did not touch them. They provide 6 choices of bread; my favorites were the cheddar/jalapeño white and the green onion(?) baked thing? Proteins: The Sicilian chicken was fairly standard with chunky tomatoes and veggies keeping the meat tender; definitely could have used more seasoning. The schnitzel was dry and bland, and the crust was so-so. Veggies: The collard greens had good flavor: not too salty, and slightly sweet and bitter. The VB caprese salad was mediocre; a bit soggy. Starch: The bread pudding was good. It was moist, it had a slight crust, and the blueberries were a good match. The hashbrown and ham casserole was my favorite. It was creamy, cheesy, and it had a great crust. Dessert: Awesome dessert selection. Here is where VB excels. The peach and custard baked thing was awesome. The crust was a tad soggy, but it was near perfect as a whole; the flavor was spot on. The blueberry pie was somewhat boring, but the mountain of fresh blueberries made it worth it. The jam was smooth and the crust was good and crisp. This place is highly recommended, but do not expect anything extraordinary. The best reason to go is because this is a solid local eatery.

Awesome bakery– they have EVERYTHING you could want and will gladly tackle any kind of special order that you can think of. The selection of cakes, pastries and breads is overwhelming at first, but everyone seems to find something they love there. Everything is baked on site with high quality ingredients and no preservatives– yay! Their café serves a reasonably priced breakfast and lunch, and seems to have quite a lot of regulars.

So I picked up my bread and bialys.(instead of going there first I did my shopping in Anderson and went there on my way back to West Union-mistake!!!) they smelled delicious and wanted a 7 or 9 grain to go along with, but, good for them unfortunately not for me the were all out. As a matter of fact they only had 2 bagels, 2 loaves of rye and some pastries left as it was an hoiur before closing. they close @ 4 on Saturdays. Had a bialy for breakfast it was awesome. This is a must shop for fresh breads and maybe next time I will try some of the rugalacha It looked reallyyyyyyyyyyyy good. 4 star rating1/15/2009 First to Review Being from up north originally I have had a need for good Bialys, Bagels and Challah(for those who don’t know Challah is Egg Bread that makes the best French toast ever…) Anyway – I have been ordering Bialys(which are a cross between a bagel and english muffin with a sprinkle of onions in the middle. Great for breakfast or a snack with cream cheese. Yummmmmmmm) from New York and they have decided to no longer ship them… and every other site the shipping was more than the cost of my order. When my daughter came to visit for Xmass took a little road trip and while exploring the charming town of Pendleton found the Village Baker. This place is a jewel wonderful smells and little bistro tables so you can eat your treats there. I bought a couple of Asiago bagels to try and asked about bialys, etc. The baker said he would make them for me if I would call in advance. Yeah… I would give them 5 stars except(1. I have not picked them up yet. and(2. They are only open 3 days per week Weds thru Sat… I ordered them for Saturday If they are as good as the bagels I tried I will update my rating next week.
