This is a joint… okay. Super attentive staff and friendly too. Food… I could’ve done at home. That said … portion was right on, I rarely clean my plate, but I did today. Grilled cheese, hash browns & a side of bacon. Not the most on atmosphere but like I said it’s a joint. In Penn Valley not much to try but this joint was good.

Diner type food. Very good. Service excellent. Breakfast is wonderful. Fluffy pancakes!

At least she answered the phone when they were busy but she was hectic and very short on the phone. Doesn’t seem like they want business or maybe they could use some manners. Not the only place to eat so we’ll go somewhere else. Won’t even go in if the attitude is this bad.

Good old home town diner. Friendly staff most of the time. Food is decent and the prices are fair.

Simple hometown café. Grandma and grandpa run. We’ve been going here for about 3 years. Grandma spoils our girls with extra whip topping on the hot chocolates. Several times I have seen them feed people down on their luck for free. The food is not fancy stuff. It is what you would get if you went to your own grandma’s house, comfort food! Grandma’s attitude is sometime distracted or sad because her very young grandson is going through cancer treatment and is having a tough time. We keep coming back because they are like family.

The Pancakes and eggs I ordered were good, but I had to eat them alone because my boyfriend got the wrong order, and Sherri took it back to re do it. He asked to keep the hashbrowns so he could have something to eat while he was waiting, so she brought another plate for him to eat them from. He put catsup on them, took a bite and sent those back as well, because they were undercooked. By the time they brought the correct order, I had finished my meal. When they brought his browns back, they were browner, but had catsup on them, obviously just thrown back on the griddle! After he took a bite! Absolutely no apology at all. No discount for the inconvenience. You’d think we were the ones being paid to eat there! And is it legal to put food back on the grill that had been partially eaten by customer? Hmmm.

These people have no integrity and will overcharge you. They run the business as if they have nothing to lose, Sherri, the owner is incredibly sour and in desperate need of an attitude adjustment, I even regret the $ 0.25 tip.

It’s hard to find what I eat here because I eat gluten free BUT the hearts of every person who work here is amazing! My family and I love to stop by just to have coffee and say hi! We love the waitresses here and if you aren’t gluten free the food is bomb! Total comfort food! Best place ever! Very cute And country looking too

Last time I was in town and stopped in, I got a dirty coffee cup to drink from. YUCK! I have not been back.

I’ve dined at Daybreak twice, once as take out and the other we dined in. If you really enjoy that down home greasy spoon/dive diner type place,(and seriously, some do) this is the one for you. What you won’t get is the usual warm homey customer service you’d expect or the the low prices either. Most of the wait staff looks upset to be there as if you’re wasting their time, and an omelette with toast and hash browns for $ 14 not including tip is just hard to swallow. This place will be some folks cup of tea. Unfortunately I won’t be returning.

As a local I usually do take out for breakfast from Day Break… Decided to actually go in for breakfast on a Sunday morning… BIG mistake. Worst customer service ever!!! I couldn’t even get anyone to help me get a proper table! Its a free for all and even when I asked for help they ignored me by turning around and serving coffee to another table. Left without ordering and will not go back.

There’s not many options in Penn Valley and we like to support our local community. So we try to only do local if we can. This is hard to do, when we go into Daybreak and sit for twenty minutes without anyone coming to help us. We can get past the cash only(even though it’s 2014), but the customer service here is horrific. I’ve been told you have to be a local to get service; which is funny, since I live less than two miles away. So if you’re ever driving though and want breakfast, keep driving. There are better places in Grass Valley and Nevada City.

Sherri the owner is seriously awful. She has put her fingers in my cup of water trying to rub what she thought was something off the rim of my cup. Has brought us the wrong food multiple times. The food sucks and the owners are nuts. Go to Charlie’s

After eating at Daybreak multiple times I was shocked to read the reviews on Unilocal.I absolutely LOVE this café. Their lobster and egg benedict is one of my favorites but occassionally I will swap over for the Breakfast croissant. I have always walked in to a super warm welcome and the place has always been very clean. My husband and I frequent this café and have probably been 10 times in the last 2 months. Anytime we have visitors in from out of town we make sure to take them to Daybreak. I really think of it as a local gem. In fact, when we lived in Alta Sierra we would drive out to Penn Valley just to eat breakfast here.

A terrific place for hot coffee, great breakfast and wonderful down to earth staff eager to make you feel at home. The price is reasonable and the menu has all the comfort food you can think of. I ordered the omelette with a short stack of hot cakes. It was exactly what I needed to get through the day. I will definately be back!

Typical breakfast diner. The food is a little greasy and not the best quality, but it’s your only option for a classic breakfast place in Penn Valley. The waitresses are really friendly.

Well, it isn’t one star and could be two and a half but it is too expensive, seriously, for basic breakfast and lousy coffee. The people are friendly, it is obviously a locals institution, but sorry… I would rather drive 5 miles into Grass Valley. The food is seriously nothing to even bother writing about. Flavorless eggs, barely cooked toast, watery weak coffee and incredibly bland menu. My husband would love it… but I’m not taking him there cuz I would rather not!!!

They overcharge. Dirty cups, dirty utensils, dirty kitchen. I had eggs and potatoes and felt slightly ill when I left and for several hours. The desserts are out of a mix.

Its a no frills place but we Love, love, love it! We have never ever had a bad breakfast or bad service. Its a great country diner, great food, great service and great prices! My favorite is the eggs benedict, my hubbie loves the biscuits and gravy delicious! It may be the only place for breakfast in Penn Valley but why would you want to go anywhere else?
