I bought a Groupon Coupon for $ 39.00 (true Value $ 200.00) from OPTICAL EXPERTS for my eye glasses. I was so surprised to be treated so warmly by the entire staff. I got my glasses and I’m just crazy happy with them. They have two offices, one North and one South. You can bet I will be back! Great Deal. Great Staff, Great Service and great product!!!

I called today to ask if they would be willing to do an eye exam on my son who has Asperger’s syndrome. I explained that I wanted to purchase the Groupon and just do the exam and that he has glasses and frames still under warranty from Costco and that we would go there for the new lenses in his current frames (that he loves because they are Spy and he loves that brand) if required. I was told that «it is a package deal and you are required to buy the frames and lenses from us if you buy the Groupon». I don’t think so. Avoid.

From the moment I walked in I highly doubted my decision to come here, but I was already here and had already paid for the Groupon. Being in Sun City I noticed the majority of their customers were elderly which at first eased my mind until I heard the doctor from the back yelling impatiently at a patient that he didn’t ask if she could read it, he asked if it was clearer. I paid no mind as a women escorted me and kindly measured my eye and showed me the frames, she explained the ones in the promotion were on the north wall and I went a picked those. I went in and got the exam and the doctor seemed to loose his patients with me a bit too, and made me feel like I didn’t know what I was seeing. I was then sat I front of what I believe is the owner of the optical. The doctor asked him to talk to me about lens options and frame options. I told the gentlemen I was only their for the promotion and only wanted what was included, he went on to tell me they were unfashionable frames to let him show me some other options, I again refused but at his third at bat I gave in at the end I still went with the original frames I had picked. He then started on the lens that I should get this and that and again I said all I want is what is included in the promotion. He then wrote out my total including the items I didn’t want I told him one more time I don’t want any of these things I just want what’s included in the special. That’s when he got visibly upset, his tone changed he attempted to discourage me from using Groupon again and said if I went anywhere else they weren’t going to give me what I wanted that I was going against doctors orders and instead of my glasses being ready in 25 minuets they would be ready in 7 to 14 days. Finally when I asked for a copy of my prescription he attempted not to give it to me and when I insisted he walked into the back made a comment to the lady that originally helped me and walked back with a smirk on his face. I would never ever return here I won’t recommend this place I would never want my grand parents to receive the same type of treatment I have received. I’m sure they suggest products to people and belittle them into buying them! Avoid yourself the headache and go else where please!!!

I have NEVER been treated as poorly as here. Heed my warning, DO NOT GO HERE! I had my first appointment here and was using a deal that I got on Living Social ($ 35 for $ 278 to Spend Toward an Eye Exam + Glasses. I got the hard sale and the inflated prices, but i went ahead and ordered my glasses and paid the difference of $ 338. I called back the next day to add Transitions to my lenses, told that is wouldn’t be a problem. Well, I got a call a week and a half later telling me that they were in. Great, I’ll drive a half an hour to have them open up the case and tell me the lens is cracked. They claimed they were fine when they were checked upon arrival. (DOUBTFUL!) So I said i didn’t want to replace the lens if these glasses were so delicate they couldn’t even sit in their case without breaking. I said the only way I would take this pair of glasses, even with a supposedly new lens was if i could get a warranty in writing. No dice! I was told to trust him and his word would be honored. YEAH RIGHT! The other option I was told i could pick out a new frame and they would make new lenses. I went outside for 5 minutes to confer on what i wanted to do. When I returned with my decision to just get a whole new frame and all, I was told that they weren’t going to do that for me. Telling me that i had to accept what they were willing to offer cuz they weren’t going to spend any more money on this! EXCUSE ME! I paid for a proper pair of NEW glasses and you are telling me I am not getting that? I started telling him (Ken, the owner) that i was not going to accept a sub standard repair or a pair of glasses that broke while sitting in a box. his reply to that was astounding! This man started YELLING as me as if I was a grammar school child. His exact words were «YOU ARE GONNA SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO ME» My response was standing up telling him i was CALLING THE POLICE, walking out the door and calling my partner in disbelief of what was happening. After a few moments this «business person» came outside throwing a check and a copy of my prescription at me and screaming that I could «JUST GO NOW».

Thankfully the check cashed out just fine and living social refunded my money.
Some individuals should just close their businesses if they hate working that much. Dont waste your time or your money. The customer is NEVER treated this way

Awful experience. Worst Groupon purchase I have ever made! Had originally scheduled a appointment that I had to cancel. I noticed on my groupon account that it said redeemed, so I called to see what was up, the receptionist proceeded to call me a liar about ever cancelling my appointment to begin with and said he was the only one to answer the phones there and I never called to cancel. I felt attacked and caught off guard. Maybe I didn’t cancel, I had so many appointments and so much had been going on, so I apologized. But, even if I was mistaken it was completely unprofessional. Then he told me he would give me one more chance for apt, without a option to reschedule, I wasn’t thrilled about this but I didn’t want to wash my money down the drain so I rescheduled. I wish I hadn’t.
When I came in for my appointment I was totally creeped out by the optometrist, something about him rubbed me the wrong way. After my exam was done I picked the most basic frames I could, in a hurry to get out. The staff proceeded to try to up sell my frames. While the guy that was getting me set up was doing his thing a couple that came in before me were checking out, they too were getting the hard sales pitch by what seemed to be a new staff member. After that couple left the receptionist called that new person to a back room where he proceeded to scold her about not making the sale.
I would never go back here, this would and could be a great deal if it wasn’t for the entire staff. The receptionist was absolutely the worst person I have ever dealt with in a professional situation such as this. He could possibly own this place given the way he presented himself, not good for business.

I bought a groupon, and was a bit apprehensive about going. Dr. Castro is very knowledgeable and helpful. Both he and his staff were very professional and made this a positive experience! I recommend Dr. Castro, and will be going back for my next exam!

Found these guys on groupon and I’m so glad I did. It was a little bit of a drive but I didn’t mind. My appointment was quick and I was able to find a pair of glasses that I really liked. And my prescription was ready in less than an hour. I will be going back for contacts. The doctor was extremely nice and so was the staff. If you get the groupon understand the terms and there won’t be any miscommunication or wrong expectations. I highly recommend them!

Went in on the Groupon ($ 39 for $ 200 worth of goods/​services, which was clearly stated on the Groupon site, R.I.F.) and was warmly greeted, shown every courtesy, allowed free reign of my browsing and frame choice (though the ladies both shared their opinions, I felt no need to listen to or accept their advice.) I was allowed to fiddle with the knobs on the machine so I really got the best vision option, and paid $ 109 out of pocket for the extras I wanted/​needed, AND picked up my new glasses the same day.
Great deal, great service, great experience.
Worth the drive, I’d do it again and would recommend this place to anyone with simple eyewear needs.
I read all the other (negative) reviews and all I’m getting from them is «I’m angry because I didn’t understand how Groupon works!» so if you’re prone to not comprehending what you read maybe get someone to explain it to you next time.

This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had with ANY business in my entire life!
My husband and I bought 2 groupons and I completely understand that if I want the nicer lenses, frames, etc that will be an extra charge, no problem. Well, we were not happy with the choice of frames so my husband wanted to use his current frames. Not only were they going to charge us a fee to use our own frames, they were going to take $ 80 off of our groupon credit!!! We were trying to work something out so we could walk away happy, when the owner (I think– he never even introduced himself to us) interrupted my husband FOUR times! Then proceeded to say things like «I don’t care what you want» and «I’m going to tell groupon not to give you a refund»
At this point, we are just done. I don’t want glasses or anything from them. I go outside to call groupon to make sure I get a refund (thanks groupon!!) moments later one guy comes outside to continue to yell at us and threaten to call the cops! Really?! What an awful way to do business! As a local business owner myself, I couldn’t imagine treating anyone like this!!!
I will say the lady at the front desk, and Dr. Cambell were extremely nice. Probably the only reason this company is still in business!

I came in on a Groupon– a savings for a $ 200 value. I needed to save all I can since I am on a limited budget. I had a great experience here, I wasn’t sold on anything extra they were very accommodating with my budget and explained to me in detail everything I am paying for. I am beyond appreciative of the facility, and was impressed with the cleanliness. The office is small and cozy, very personable. The doctor was very nice. Staff was helpful and very courteous to me arriving 30mins before my appointment. I cannot wait to get my glasses.
My suggestion to reading these other «deal» purchasers, if you already have glasses/​contacts and have a pretty basic idea of what you are supposed to be getting, you honestly shouldn’t be too surprised that you will have to pay a little bit extra for what your eyes need. I really doubt any deal out there will include EVERYTHING because everyone is different. The groupons/​living socials/​amazon local deals are NOT on there for FREE EVERYTHING. Be appreciative you are able to get the basics for a great deal, they are on there to attract new business and allow people to experience a new facility.
I know that I need a «hi index» lens, so I know I always have to pay extra for that. So the doctor recommending the same thing I’ve been told every time I go means he was doing his job. I don’t mind paying the extra for the lenses because I know what I need, well, the basics of what I need.

If I could put zero stars I would. The worst customer service ever! So damn rude! I called back and told me I can’t contact corporate, because he IS CEO so I’ll do bigger and better things then call corporate.

They seem to love what they do. Very inviting and personable. Ernie was great to work with and John made you feel very comfortable. Definitely will go back to them in the future.

Do NOT go here. It is nothing but a major scam! But a deal through Amazon for $ 39.00 it was for the eye exam and $ 218.00 towards frames and glasses. How ever when I got there and was told that it only covered the eye exam and the lenses NOTHING else! The lenses them self were almost $ 300.00. Since I did not have enough to pay for frames and the difference in the lenses a total of $ 390.00 I had to pay for the eye exam $ 90.00 for nothing but a eye exam. Very pushy also and lots of up selling.

Add me to the disappointed by Optical Experts list. And I’m also not happy that many of their reviews aren’t showing up. People should be warned about this business.
Like others, I purchased the $ 39 groupon deal which included an eye exam, frames, and lenses. Because I know my prescription is both heavy Rx and requires a progressive lens, I called to verify what would be included, and how much the extras would be.
So I walked in knowing my extras would total less than $ 200.
I got a quick but thorough exam without dilation. I refused that service because my ophthalmologist does it for me.
When it came time to choose frames, a technician seated me and insisted on bringing frames to me. She was a sweet older lady but it quickly became clear that her taste and mine were not in sync. I used words like hip, chic, funky and modern, but she brought boring, blah and grandma.
Because the deal I purchased required I purchase everything that day, I eventually settled on a frame (which I hate) and went for the necessary upgrades. However, the cost for the lenses and anti glare was more than twice what I had been quoted. I desperately needed new glasses, so I went forward after she explained that I misunderstood the deal.
No, I didn’t. I had notes.
When I picked up my glasses a couple weeks later, I was astounded at how heavy they felt. Yes, the lenses were about the same thickness as my older glasses, but the weight makes them truly unpleasant to wear. My vision with them is fine, but I hate how frumpy they make me look.
I had to argue a bit to get a copy of my prescription.
Given my disappointment, I would never go back to Optical Experts. Quality eye care isn’t cheap, and anyone purchasing a deal needs to realize they’re not going to get a bargain here.

Please please please don’t go here!!! I have tried to go to them twice silly me. First time shame on you second time shame on me!!! I am a mother of four boys and it’s hard enough to keep a roof over our heads and healthy food on our plates. But alas I am blind and have to spend a great deal of money on glasses. Because I am not rich I try to get as many deals as I can to save our pennies so when I saw the groupon the first time I thought how amazing! Wrong! The first time I went the manager kept trying to get me to buy the most expensive thing there and I get that they want to make their money, but I explained to him my situation and that I needed to get what would work. I chose a pair of frames I wanted and even though I was done he kept harassing me to buy bigger and better and mind you they aren’t even name brands just cheap knock offs with a huge price gouge! I again insisted I was fine with what I chose and would like to finish and he then went into getting to get me to buy 200 lenses! That’s absurd! Again I said really I need to spend as little as possible I have Christmas coming and four children I don’t need to spend a million dollars on glasses. So then after he had already told me my glasses would be done the next day, he informed me that since I didn’t buy the expensive lenses it would take a week to get my glasses done so I should just buy the expensive ones. I again insisted I just couldn’t afford it. Then he treated me like I had a disease and like I was nothing more than a turd on the ground. I was completely astonished. Well guess what my glasses broke and I saw they had the groupon again so I made the mistake of thinking maybe he wouldn’t work there anymore. I was wrong. I purchased a pair of vintage frames, in spectacular condition, online and brought them in. Same thing happened again. He was so rude about the fact I didn’t want the expensive lenses and as soon add I showed him my frames he picked them up laughed and said «I won’t even touch these good luck finding someone that will cause no one will do those for you!» I said are you serious I knew I shouldn’t have gone here. I said you guys are swindlers. You may think that because you work the elderly out of their money that you are going to get mine but you’re dead wrong. They are so rude and only treat you nice if you spend 400 there. I said ok fine then I will take my business elsewhere and asked for my prescription since I already paid for it. They refused and told me they didn’t have to give me anything that I was just screwed. Can you imagine!!! I called the police and they said it was civil so I just left. I have since gotten my money back from groupon thank god. But I’m telling you these people are crooks!!! They are rude and have the most disgusting attitude towards people. They are also not tired into the better business bureau which makes me wonder who else they have screwed. Don’t waste your time here it is a scam and will cost you ten times what you would normally pay at any other optometrist!

They should be ashamed of them selves. Bait and switch is against the law. Dr. Castro is great but the staff try so hard to sell you something your really not in need of. Go somewhere else and spend your Groupon dollars. Not a very honest place.

My $ 250 for exam and glasses ended up costing $ 408.00. The Dr. tried really hard to convince me I suffered frm «dry eye» and not just seasonal allergies

They do a lot of coupons (like Groupon) that sound like a deal, but their prices are so much higher than other places the coupons don’t save you very much. They also work hard to sell you things you don’t need (but might not know you don’t need) so get more money. They even falsely said I had an eye disease so they could get more money from my medical insurance to cover «treatments» for something I didn’t have. You can get much better care and glasses at Costco/​Walmart even with the coupons they guys offer.
The Dr told me I had an eye disease and to give him my medical insurance so he could start «immediate treatments» — making it sound serious. But after overhearing a couple in the lobby, I was concerned and hadn’t given them my medical insurance info. I said I didn’t have insurance and all of a sudden I didn’t «have» the disease and just needed to wash my eyelids every day and I would never have to have it treated by a Dr. Real suspicious — I verified elsewhere I didn’t have the disease, the latin name he gave me was dry eyes and I have no symptoms and would be treated by drops, not office «treatments». Sounds like a scam to make more money.
I called before getting the coupon and was told I could get the exam and glasses (I gave details) for the amount the coupon covered (several hundred dollars). In the visit, the Dr kept trying to tell me I needed distance glasses. When I said I could see distance fine, he would make dramatic statements like I wouldn’t want to be on the road with you. I thought maybe my distance vision had changed but he refused to tell me my distance prescription. He also made a big sales pitch on how I HAD to have Prescription Polaroid Sunglasses (not regular ones). He was pushed progressives saying bifocals were bad. When I went to the station and picked out frames, the guys said ok you owe (… @ $ 300).
I told him about the phone call and the coupon covering the exam and glasses. He gave a lot of excuses, but I had given them detailed information and asked if the coupon would cover it and had been told yes, so I knew his excuses were not true. I asked if this was the price for single vision and he said the Dr said you needed progressives. I could read the prescription upside down, it was the same as my last prescription for distance (no other Dr or the DMV thinks I need distance glasses). I said I wanted single vision and they called the Dr over. He starts his «selling again» how bad my vision is, how I need progressives, and I finally said I can not afford it. So he tries to sell me bifocals (after trashing them in the exam), I again say I can’t afford it and the Dr goes away. The guy fitting glasses says to lower the cost there is no scratch protectant, no anti glare, heavier lenses which meant I had to choose different frames. I am very disappointed, the coupon would have more than covered at other places, but I already paid for the coupon, so I say take the cheaper materials. They still said I owed $ on top of the coupon. I could have gotten the same glasses at Walmart for the same price and at Costco gotten the scratch protection, anti glare, lighter lenses and better frames for just a little more. They are running a real scam — they hike up the price of their products so it sound like the coupon will give you a good deal, but it really doesn’t.
On top of that, when the Dr did the prescription machine, he did a few adjustments than stated with fanfare «See how well you can see now». Well I couldn’t. He said «Isn’t it better than no glasses»? I said it was worse than the glasses I was replacing. It took several adjustments with fanfares before he got something decent. The glasses I got are ok, but not really much improvement over my old ones. Normally I can last 2 years between prescriptions and I expect these ones will need replacing in 6 months.
I wish I would have known more about the problems I and others had (half the people were back as their glasses didn’t work, the other half were first time people with coupons and some had sticker shock when they were told the price of their glasses). I would not have bought the coupon. We expect our Drs to take care of our health and tell us what we need, not sell us things we don’t need so they can make more money. If I didn’t know my old prescriptions know from other Drs that I didn’t need distance glasses, I would not have known enough to say no to the expensive things they were trying to sell me that I didn’t need. I suggest going to Walmart or Costco and skip these guy’s coupons — you will get better prescriptions and glasses for the same or less cost and better service. Wish I would have done that.
