this place is a TREASURE in Peoria! I’ve never been disappointed with the food, service, or beer here… and have been dining here for about 10 years. The smoked pork chops are fantastic. They have amazing German beers on tap that never disappoint… and are happy to give samples until you find the one you love.

Three stars… This is a bright spot of ethnic cuisine in Peoria… I have been here several times and have not been disappointed! I usually order a roulade but the various schnitzels are also good. Meals are served with vinegar cabbage slaw and a warm traditional potato salad that I have never been a fan of. Beer selection varies, but many European beers on draft and bottles are available. Prices are slightly above expectation, and ambiance is dark musty attic. Service is always friendly and portions are large. While the food is good the overall package is just not enough, and while I may return on occasion, this joint does not make the list.

Really great food and service. If you like authentic german/austrian food they definitely have it… seafood on the me u is always great too. Mussels w wine sauce are fantastic, I had the smoked platter with some of the best spaetzle I have ever had as a side. Late night appetizer menu is great. Ive been here 100s of times, wish I still lived in Peoria so I could go more often. Beer selections pretty great. Theres a lot more here than just German beer and German food though. The specials and grilled items on the menu are prepared very skillfully for a restaurant that specializes in German fare, Service has always been enthusiastic, friendly, and efficient. Servers seem to be there quiet a while so you get someone who knows what they are doing.

Had high hopes but it’s not good. The bread isn’t warm or fresh. The sides of cabbage taste like they’re from a can. The schnitzel was average. I’ve had much better German food elsewhere.

Easily the best German restaurant in Peoria simply because they are the only German restaurant in Peoria. Compared to other German restaurants I’ve been to around the USA and in Germany, this place would barely score 2 stars. But given the scarcity of German food in this area, they get 3. This place is more bar than restaurant, but always packs a full dining room for the lunch crowd. Amazing beer list, and I hate going here for lunch because I’m not allowed beer during lunch and the food here is definitely great with a beer on the side. Food menu is small. Soups, sandwiches, and sausage platters. The potato salad is great. The bacon-onion bread is hit or miss. Sauerkraut is killer. The soup is tasty. You have to order from the bar, sit down and they bring your food. The décor tries to be German but is very much a bar atmosphere. German music plays in the background. Overall great place for lunch, would not go here for dinner.

Best restaurant in Peoria. I went with 3 other people and all 4 dishes were prepared perfectly and everything tastes amazing. The staff was so sweet. I’ve been to German restaurants in Chicago that aren’t as good as this. Can’t wait to go back.

Me and my girlfriend went to try some German food as we r obsessed with the language and love German stuff. The experience was so bad. The waitress was rude. Bread was worse then someone would probably feed to rats, even the butter was pathetic cheap quality. And the main course, oh my god! So bad. The side dish spaetzel was not on the side but put under the main dish and she was picking and showing me where it is as I couldn’t see. Our complete meal was a total failure.

How can you not give the best restaurant in town five stars? Everyone knows about the beer selection, terrific soups, and great German dishes, but if you ever have a craving for nachos, theirs are the best in town. Why do you have to go to a German spot to get great nachos? Well… I have no clue, but they are without a doubt — Amazing

Lots of German Beer. I thought the choice of German food was a little slim. There is more to german food other than potato salad, bratwurst and sour kraut. If that’s your idea of German food this is your spot. The food was good just a disappointing selection.

I’ve eaten here several times over the years and can’t believe I haven’t reviewed it. Excellent food and atmosphere. Good flavor, friendly folks. Good bier selection, a bit pricey, but excellent nonetheless. The music also adds to the atmosphere. My only negative, no potato pancakes. Good times, good food, great people, what more could one want.

Talk about legit and classic German food and beer. It’s not fancy, but the food portions are big, the beers are big and everything is great.

Absolutely exceptional food. The beer selection is good. You may have to wait a while for a seat if you didn’t call ahead of time, but well worth the wait. Definitely one of my favorite German restaurants in Illinois.

Excellent food and friendly staff. If you are a celiac they do have gluten free beer and options if you ask! I ordered the grilled pork chops and a beer. The pork chops were grilled to perfection! A bit pricey but good!!!

The food was pretty dang close to «authentic», considering this place is in central IL. The beer list is extensive and includes some of my favorite imports. However, the service was pretty … uncomfortable. The server was possibly the most awkward human being on earth. I’m normally not terribly picky about these things, and I try not to leave bad reviews if I can help it, but I really could not believe how bad it was. She asked us for drink orders without giving us a menu or even being able to tell us about the options, and seemed caught off-guard when I asked for a list. She set an empty beer bottle down on its side in the middle of the table(!!!) after pouring my drink. She not only offered me and my companion shots after our meal, but *insisted* we have a round, even after two or three refusals. It was super weird. Given that this is the only German restaurant in a 50 mile radius of my house, I admit I’ll probably be back the next time I need a Rotkohl fix. But no sooner.

My boss and I found this place thru Unilocal, but it also came recommended by our customer. We have been here twice. The place was packed both times. A reservation wouldn’t be a bad idea but we got lucky both times. They have a variety of German beers on draft, some of them lesser-known in the US. They also have an extensive menu of bottled beers. Both times I have ordered the rouladen. They’re great! I hear the smoked pork chops are excellent. Nice friendly ambiance. Not fancy, but comfortable. Last night they had a group of about 20 people at tables that had been pushed together in the middle of the room. And a birthday – the waitress got the whole room to sing to him.
