Bodega Bay Oyster Company

The oysters at bodega bay oyster company petaluma are the worst oysters we have ever had for the price we paid. It is not only overly priced but the quality and sizes of the oysters were way short from the expectation and the prices were charged. Previous reviews convince us to drive 3 hours to the place and tried the oysters BBQ at a price of $ 18 for 4 pieces (listed for medium size but actually when got the oysters itself were very small — some of them the shell looks medium, the oyster itself is less than half of the goth of the pinky finger). For that price, the oysters we got were way small for the price charged. Yet, the oysters thin like a piece of paper (no belly) and did not seem taste very fresh either. The place is not a restaurant. It has a counter, a walk in freezer where oyster were kept. Outside a BBQ grill like the one in your backyard setup to BBQ your order of oysters. There are a couple of benches you can find in parks where you will eat the oysters. This is like eating the oyster in a wild place very primitive. This is not the issue but the oysters were so thin and lean that they were almost nothing to eat but the prices was so out of the line for the size and quality of the oysters. We are so disappointed after spend that much $ getting these kind of oysters that we will NEVER come again! I have to share this so others would not make the same mistakes.
Luckily we decided to drive further north up for about half an half. We went to the another restaurat that was rated #5 by Unilocal for oysters. This one looks more like a restaurant and dad a commercial gill outside. It has restroom, inside table eating. We ordered some oysters for $ 26 per dozen. Wow! The oyster came back fat and juicy despite the shell is not big but the oyster is as twice big as we got that from Bodaga Oyster co at a price of ¹⁄₃ of that charged. And the oyster has meat (belly), juicy and fresh. nit came with 2 gralic breads on a big oval dish. unlike BodagonOyster co, the other place also sell other things like clam chowder, sandwiches etc. Whereas BodagonOyster co came with paper plate (8 oysters not even filled half the space of the ordinary party paper dish. What a difference!
So, we made a big mistake to try the oysters in Bodagon Oyster co. Very pricy for the quality and size of the oysters sold there. Extremely disappointed. The the price charged is completely unjustified, almost very close a scam. Never ever will go there again.
We were so happy we eventually found the other place to make up for the oysters. Otherwise it would have been a sad day for us.

Super fresh and reasonably priced. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Stoked to have fresh oysters without the far drive to the coast. Will be back!

First visit on Sunday, June 10, 2016 and it won’t be my last! Great staff that helps you through the selection process. Delightful grounds, picnic table area. Dog friendly a plus! Oysters fresh and tasty. BBQ oysters YUM available on the weekends. A+ experience.

We stopped here on our way to the coast and to get oysters to take with us. SO glad we did. Two dozen for eating raw (the small miyagis and the kumamotos) and two dozen mussels to prepare in broth. All were outstanding: fresh, briny, flavorful. These are some of the best oysters I’ve ever had. The prices were very fair, and the service was helpful and friendly. We’ll be back!

The wife and I stopped here yesterday on our way to another event in the area. We picked up a half dozen fresh oysters and ate them out front. We were very pleased with the service and especially the product! The small oysters were a good size for eating raw oysters. Very fresh and delicious!
We will definitely be back.

Husband and I were driving by and decided to stop in here for a few fresh oysters. We bought half a dozen small oysters, plus a bottle of hot sauce, and a bottle of «The Sauce», which my husband uses at home but has a hard time finding in stores.
The young man working put our oysters on ice in a bag, and when we told them we wanted to eat them out front, he helped us out with a wire glove and oyster shucker, plus plates, forks, and napkins. He even sliced up some lemon for me and loaned us a bottle of the sauces we liked.
We sat out front at a table and enjoyed the fresh, delicious oysters. Lots of natural juices inside, and so much flavor! They were outstanding and very fairly priced! Wonderful service and great experience all around.

The service was awesome and the oysters were delicious. We wondered if we should have gone to a different place since it wasn’t as close to the bay as we had thought it should have been. However, after having experienced this place, we’re super glad we came here instead. Again, the service is awesome and the oysters tasted very fresh!
Expert tip: Outside, they have a lawn area where you can grill and enjoy your oysters after you have purchased them. We came here on a whim, but if you’re trying to make a legit experience of it, I’d bring all the sauces and some charcoal. Yum, yum!

Wanted to try some oysters while in the area and came across this cute little place. The gentleman working the counter was very nice and helpful, he set us up with a few extra oysters because one looked «iffy» but also charged us for a dozen instead of a half dozen which was a bummer. We caught it at the end while heading to the car and were in a rush so we booked it. Overall it seemed like a good setup.

Came here on New Years Eve to pick up some oysters for the wife and I. Came here instead of our usual oyster supplier and not disappointed at all. Got 1 dz Small Miyagi oysters and 1 dz Kumamoto oysters. Service was fast, friendly and quality of the oysters was superb. Prices were right on point. On the outskirts of Petaluma but definitely worth the drive out. Would come back again.

All I can say is this place ROCKS!!! I got some large oysters and made Oyster Motoyaki. I have been eating oysters for over 40 years and this place sells the best! Oh and BTW… Customer service is great also!!!

Was looking for some place to buy oysters to have for dinner tonight, and stumbled upon Bodega Bay Oyster Co. My husband and I had the best experience with the guy who was there helping us today. He was so nice and answered all our questions. We are just tucking into the oysters now, and they are amazing! Can’t wait to come back for more!

Finally an Oyster place that you dont have to drive days to get to! They have 4 sizes of Miyagi Oysters to choose from and very reasonably priced. Buy the by the bag of 50 and it is the best deal of them all. Great fresh for the grill. They also offer Kumamoto Oysters, Walker creek clams and Gallo mussels. All fresh and just out of the ocean!

I had the «perfect» idea of grabbing a few dozen oysters from Tomales Bay Oyster Company but after Hubby seen this place is much closer than Tomales Bay & Hog Island Oyster Company, from Sacramento & of course the 5 star ratings, we decided to come here instead.
I was fine with the lack of all that fancy table BBQn, Bay view, and gang a people that would disturb my slate of mental peace the weekend we visited this place. I didn’t find crowds at all. The first time we came, only 2 people ahead of us, second time 2 people ahead of us, no fancy tables or BBQs that cost $ 75 to reserve like the previoiusly mentioned ones cost. No booking months in advance. We just traipsed our sorely vacation needing behinds to this place, attempted to legally park our 28 foot RV in that super small parking spot & walked in.
What u see in there is a very nicely & approproately decorated little shop that sells Miyagi oysters, xs, sm, med, & lg. Kumamoto oysters, and at the time only sold the smaller ones, but I think they offer a bigger size too. Virginica oysters which I read are super yummskis, but did not have. They also have Mussells & Clams for $ 6.99/lb. In addition to seafood, they also have t shirst, tank, hats with their logo emblazoned on it. Smores kits (hersheys, graham crackers n marshmallows) shuckers, bbq sauce, wine, etc. We only needed the oysters.
The lady cashier was probaby the nicest lady that has served us in a while. I always ask tons of questions, & half expected her tio be annoyed at even the fact I asked for a sample. She amicably obliged. She took out 4 oysters, two each for Hubby & I to try. I instantly wished I had mignonette, cuz they were salty like the ocean & it took me by surprise. Perhaps I am used to bland oysters. I instantly loved the kumamotos. They have a sweet, tender taste. The meat is buttery. Kind of like you are kissing a babys, tender pillowed cheek. You sense you are exeriencing something quite unique, an experince to be cherished, each moment cherished.
The miyagi are more meatier, not as big, less expensive but you do get maybe double more bang for your buck.
Cuz I am frugal as they come we bought way more Miyagi than Kumamoto & even if money were no option I would probably just get the Miyagi. After buying & shucking 4 or 5 dozen in weekend, Miyagai’s size will fill you up faster meaning less to shuck.
I would def bring your own mignonette that you made at home. Bring your own lemons, tabasco, etc & eat n shuck at the beach n skip the fancy tables at H.I. & T.B. altogether.
But from what it sounds like, tables are in the works here at Bodega Bay Oyster Company too.

Great oysters, super friendly staff, fun stop on the way in or out of Bodega. Sampled fresh oysters (shucked on-​site) & a cold brew at a picnic table, with our dog underfoot, during recent trip to Bodega. Loved the little guys (Kumamoto I think) best, but all were awesome. Nice gift shop. Extra points for being so dog-​friendly. Check it out!

Great service and knowledgeable about oysters! Helped us out by inquiring how we wanted to prepare our oysters and how far we were traveling and even packed them in ice for us!

The best Oyster experience I’ve had in years. Oysters harvested just hours before, you’re welcome to shuck them yourself (they will provide the knife) and eat them outside. My wife had the Kumamotos and I had the Miyagi. Unbelievably good and fresh Oysters that we ate in a state of silent reverence and complete bliss. I wanted to Genuflect.
The staff (I think his name was Zack) was very polite, knew the business and was very helpful.

Great looking place. Good selection of oysters with a kind person that knows his stuff, very informative. Fresh fresh oysters that were all good. I had a few different kinds just to sample. Take it home or eat it on the table outside like I did. Definitely coming back for more!

Friendly service, knows his stuff. This was a bit far out from downtown Petaluma but along the way into Bodega Bay. Prices are great. Dozen of medium oysters for $ 16, perfect for BBQ. If you prefer eating them raw, get the dozen of small oysters for $ 12.
