Great local diner! I think I could live off of there scones and omelets! It’s hard to find a place like this that gives consistently great service and food. I’ve met the owner there a couple of times and she is always pleasant.

Yikes the food was overshadowed by the very bad moody service. These waitresses clearly we’re having issues between each other which dampened the mood overall. Could not get anyone to check on our table. One just walked up put checks on table and walked off. When we were leaving a waitress walked right by no thanks no have a good day. Wow just wow will not return.

If you are looking for a great place to eat in Petaluma this is it, for breakfast or lunch! The avocado, black bean omelette with fruit salsa is out of this world and the corned beef hash is made fresh! They also have the best reuben around and I have tried my fair share of reubens.

Best breakfast in Petaluma, regardless of ambience. Expect a wait if you have two or more people in your party, and it’s worth it. Be sure to check the specials Vito u can’t go wrong with any of their griddle breakfasts or a breakfast burrito. Cinnamon French toast is my go to buy any variety of their pancakes are just excellent. Attentive and friendly service tops off the experience.

Our waitress was rather rude, and our overall experience, just, Meh. Once we were seated, we were left for a solid 10 minutes or so without being asked if we would like something to drink, if we were ready to order, etc. In the meantime, I watched 3 different tables who were seated after us have their order taken(there were only 2 of us, what gives?). 1 of the table seated after us was served, finished eating, paid, and out the door before our food ever came out. We could see our food sitting back in the kitchen ready to go, as we heard the kitchen staff ringing the bell for pickup many times. After about 5 minutes of our food sitting back there, we had to ask our waitress to please retrieve our food. We were not checked on a single time during our meal. I simply do not understand what all of the hype is about. The food is average, meanwhile the service is apparently well below standard. Having been in the food industry for many years, I am known to leave a 30−50% tip since I know how a great tip can turn someones day around. This experience prompted me to leave the smallest tip of my life, and I felt that it was the right thing to do. I doubt we will ever go back unless part of a larger group who wants to go.

A friend took me to Hallie’s Diner years ago. I ordered the Latin Scramble and it’s still my favorite. Home fries with sour cream are killer. I like to come for breakfast on the weekend after my massage. The counter or a booth are best. The staff is friendly and they refill your coffee cup often! I loved how they used to play Beatles but now they mix it up. It’s worth the wait which can be often. It’s just a good ol’ diner!

I don’t care how many good reviews Hallie’s has, I’m writing a poor one. There’s one waitress here who is on a mission to wreck your day, and knows she’s sprinkling her unhappiness to customers. AND, we literally watched our food order go to a different table by accident, and my partner had 1 piece of toast missing(from someone else eating it) and then realizing it wasn’t their order. It was moved from their table to ours… Just like that. Gross! I would never return here, it was dingy, and the server was RUDE. The next time she throws a plate down, I hope a patron throws it back at her.

Been to Hallie’s multiple times before and never had a problem with the service. On Monday December 21st I decided to take my parents there for breakfast, but were given terrible service. The service wasn’t bad for me or my sister, the woman was nice to us. But when my parents ordered, the woman completely changed her attitude and was rude and short with them. My parents are both Latinos. When our food came, the woman slammed the plates to my parents but nicely set them down for me and my sister. When my parents asked for a side of toast, the woman gave them attitude and stormed off. This is highly offensive behavior to my parents. I will never return here, I refuse to let my parents be discriminated against.

I like that everything at this place is organic and fresh! The food is amazing! The service can be iffy at times, as I have had attitude from one or two waitresses, but that is out of the 10 years I have known about this place. The prices are about average to a little more than average. I highly recommend trying their freshly squeezed orange juice! When I was sitting at the counter, they were taking these fresh juicy organic oranges and using a machine to squeeze the juice out of them to make pitchers of orange juice! Then they would just pour it into glasses and serve it! You can be waiting for a while if you come at rush hour, as the place is very small! So be prepared to wait!

Have you ever seen the Seinfeld episode about the soup nazi? This place is in the same ballpark. This is my experience ordering take out this morning, and it is the standard situation every time I’ve ordered from them. Me: «hi, can I please make an order to go?» Lady: «I don’t know. I have to ask the cook. I don’t know if he can handle it.» (EVERY time. Now keep in mind I had just driven by the restaurant while running errands downtown; they literally have three customers inside.) Lady: «He says it’s ok. What do you want?» Me: «corned beef hash» Lady: «with the poached eggs?» Me: «no. I don’t really like the eggs. Could I get a side of fruit instead?» Lady: «well, no… He doesn’t do substitutions!» Me: «alright. Well then I guess just hash and toast.» Lady: «well why didn’t you say that? You just want hash and toast. What kind of toast?» Me: «do you have an English muffin or something like that?» Lady: «no.» Me: «ok. Well I guess sourdough.» Lady: «ok. Now I need a phone number. I’m going to hang up and call you back and then we can start cooking the food.» … Lady: «ok it’s you. Now we will need at least 15 – 17 minutes because the hash takes a long time.» So the food is good. I really like the hash. But ordering to go is such a painful process and they always seem like they’re doing me this huge favor. I hate picking up the food. I feel judged and annoying. I just wanted some corn beef hash. Not sure if they have a super temperamental cook or what, but it would be nice to feel like they appreciate the business. Also, I worked in restaurants for ten years. Take out is as easy if not easier for most kitchens. I have no idea why they have such a hard time with it.

Love this place so much. Great food, homey feel, nice staff. It can get busy on the weekends but trust me the wait is worth it. I always get the black bean, avocado and mango salsa omelette. It may sound kind of odd but it is amazing. I’ve tried to recreate it at home but it’s just not the same. Definitely give this place a try.

The food was good and it usually is. The service and attitudes of the entire wait staff was really off on this day. None of them would make eye contact to see if we needed anything. Nobody came to offer a refill of coffee, I had to flag them for it. Nobody offered to clear our table, or ask if we wanted a box or if we wanted our ticket or how our meal was. My husband asked that he also wanted my bacon cooked well, after asking for his to be cooked well, she didn’t respond. When he reiterated it again, she showed irritation. We were ignored the whole time we were there and it wasn’t even busy yet. I felt like everyone who worked up front was in some sort of a bad mood. Then I thought maybe it was us. I went home and looked them up on Unilocal and am sorry to say, but relieved to know, that this is common with the wait staff at Hallie’s, which is too bad. If they treat us like this again, we won’t ever be back. I hope they start reading their reviews before too long. After waiting for 20 minutes for someone to pick up our ticket, my husband went to the counter. No «Thank you for coming in» and no reason to a leave a tip, but we always leave 20%. Please improve your service.

The only downside to this place is that it can get rather busy and you might have to wait a bit. Located in a downtown area that is walking distance to free parking, a market, and some shopping if you’d like. We got there and had to wait about 20 minutes for a booth, so we walked around until they called us. But it was definitely worth the wait. You can’t go wrong with traditional diner cooking. I wish I would’ve managed to take a picture of my food but I was too hungry when it got there haha. Everything my boyfriend and I ordered was really good. Their buttermilk pancakes were probably my favorite. I couldn’t stop eating them. Good little diner with exceptional food for decent prices.

Been there once before and liked it. This time was on a Saturday morning and sadly a bad experience. Latte(my bad for ordering a latte from a diner) was so hot my mouth is still burned. They gave me coffee instead, but just dropped it by with no cream, so after waiting a while I had to get up and go ask for cream. Food came out cold. Got up to ask for a knife(none on the table) and waitress acted like I was a pain.(How do you eat eggs Benedict without a knife?). Food must have been sitting, because the butter on the side of the kids’ pancake was so melted that the pancake was soggy from laying in a butter-lake. Husband and I ordered the eggs Benedict special(me with a hard-poached egg) and when waitress brought it she switched them. By the time I figured out my eggs were all runny, my husband had eaten half of the other meal(which was mine). Oh well, good way to diet. Burnt tongue, cold food, soggy pancakes, switched food. Don’t think we’ll be going back.

This is my favorite breakfast place in Petaluma. I always take friends, family and dates. All the food is good. I always order the same thing. The black bean mango salsa omelet with a side of potatoes and toast.

The food was tasty. I liked my cinnamon French toast and the fruit bowl presentation was nice. But their bathroom was filthy, the service was not positive(girl on her phone at the bar, hesitation to greet is when we walked in, barely smiled) and if you want the plantain soufflé… It’s a 45 minute wait for it to bake so call it in early!

Found Hallie’s on Unilocal in route to Oregon. We give it a firm four stars. Hubby had eggs with Cajun sausage, I had the oatmeal, and our girls had the blueberry pancakes and yogurt. All of us were very happy with our choices. Atmosphere was warm and friendly with locals greeting each other frequently. I would recommend this place and come again if we’re ever in Petaluma.

Went here when passing through Petaluma and selected it based on positive and clearly misinformed Unilocal reviews. Walked in, sat in a booth. Ambience is basic low budget diner, nothing particularly cute, cozy or special about it. The two middle aged women working there(owners, maybe?) were strangely unfriendly. Food took forever to arrive. Bread on sandwiches was waaaay overtoasted, and one person’s was actually burnt. Days later the roof of my mouth is still torn up. They don’t have french fries. WTF? It’s a DINER. Weirdest thing ever. You have to have home fries. Ridiculous. How much can a deep fryer possibly cost? So of course that means no onion rings either. Bathrooms were in need of attention, toilet paper all over the floor. Janky. I will not be going back and cannot recommend.

If you’re looking for a hearty diner meal and endless coffee, stop looking and pull into Hallie’s. We were lucky enough to beat the morning rush on Valentine’s Day; this place sure seems popular. Waitstaff were really friendly, and they seem to host a lot of locals. It was really hard to decide what to get, because the Unilocal reviews will tell you that most everything is delicious. I had the cajun sausage/egg/pancake combo — the cornmeal pancakes are SOGOOD; and just the right size that you don’t leave feeling like youve overeaten. Two thumbs way up for the frequent coffee refills. Easy parking across the street in the lot, and a short walk from tons of other neat things in old town Petaluma.
