Dr Barlas did a superb job doing an anterior THR on my left hip. I really had no idea of what to expect aside from relief from my pain. After 7 weeks I am pleasantly surprised each day as I continue to improve! I only required pain meds for a short while and after walking with a cane for 3 years I am amazed at how balanced and even my new gait is now. In addition to being a fine medical clinician, Dr Barlas is humble, gentle and a genuinely good person.

I had the anterior approach to the THR, total hip replacement by Dr. Barlas in Sept 2011. It went beautifully, there was a very short recovery phase, and he used the table required for the procedure, at the Petaluma Valley Hospital. Palm Drive Hospital in Sebastapol also has a table and doctor for it. Dr. Barlas saved my life, as i had been wanting to die after being misdiagnosed for failed back surgery, and for 2.5 yrs i laid on my couch in excruciating pain. It had worsened every day, and 5 medical pros had confirmed the failed back surgery diagnosis. Dr. Barlas saw the x-rays which showed a totally necrotic hip. His expert surgery left me with my legs the exact same length, always a risk with THR. My hip is a little sore near the small scar I have, and that is a very small tradeoff for the necrotic hip, when I could not touch my foot on the floor. It went very, very well, and I love this doctor for saving my hip, and my life!

I would not imagine going to another orthopedic when my kids break a bone. Really nice guy with soft spoken personality. Kids and adults trust him and I think he is great. I wish he had not stopped using the Gore-Tex inserts in the casts, though, I would pay $ 100 of my own money for this as being able to shower with a cast keeps the stink away. So far, one leg, two wrists and several sprains so I have seen him many times and he is always great.

I broke my ankle in the autumn of 2008. Dr. Barlas did the surgery. The damage to my ankle was severe yet I am walking. Dr. Barlas treated me with courtesy and respect even though when I became his patient I had no medical insurance and no ability to pay him for his services. I do not trust doctors easily. I trust this doctor completely and am deeply grateful for the care he provided me. I absolutely reccomend this Orthopedic Surgeon!
