This is a really cool little place. It’s a cozy with a friendly staff and really good food at a fair price. I had the ribs and they were really good. The baked beans are excellent with huge chunks of bacon throughout. It’s definitely worth trying out.

Had this over the weekend at a wedding/going away party on Lake Harding. I made the mistake of having the chipped bbq instead of the chopped. It was a little too chipped for me and reminded me of corned beef hash, also the taste of it wasn’t that great. Beans were ok and so was potato salad, I think it was the best thing besides the sweet tea.

I’ve always loved Mike and Ed’s. I used to frequent the Tuscaloosa location years ago and I like the phenix city location just as well. The pork is great and sides are good. I never was a big fan of the chili or stew, but they know how to smoke some pork.

We stopped in to get some bbq to go. I got the pork plate with 2 sides and my husband got the rib plate. I will start with his rib plate first. The ribs tasted like they were boiled then smoked which gave them the texture of boiled ham. With his meal he ordered the beans and Brunswick stew. The beans were pretty good however we never got the stew. Mike and Ed’s failed to pack the Brunswick stew with the order along with a second fork and napkins. On to my meal. The pork was moist the only good thing from this meal and my sides was 5 curly fries with at best a table spoon of potato salad. Chances are we will not go back to Mike and Eds.

We stopped and grabbed a bbq sandwich to go… now we wish we would have grabbed 2. When we come back next month we will stop again.

Delicious, unpretentious pork barbecue. To me it’s a lot more consistent in terms of quality than in-town competition Country’s Barbecue. I’ve been eating here since it opened and try to stop by whenever I’m in town. Owner Mike Gullatt is always friendly and usually at the counter taking orders. The sauces are mustard-based, as others mention, but there are a couple of different options that range from mild to hot. They’re best when you mix all three together. The potato salad is pretty good and the slaw is just alright, but it’s really best as a topping for your sandwich and not as a side dish. One warning: they do not serve alcohol, so if you prefer beer with your BBQ you’ll have to get takeout or go elsewhere. Dig in, my piggies!

We tried it for the first time last night, and I was not a fan of the mustard barbecue sauce. They should have more options as far as sauce because I’m sure that this doesn’t appeal to everyone. The ribs themselves were pretty good, however. We didn’t like the Brunswick stew either. The potato salad was really good, though, and so is the sweet tea. I would go there again, but I would order my ribs sauceless and just add my own sauce when I get them home.

I’ve been here twice and both times the barbeque was a little dry and not really my style. I don’t dislike it, but I can’t be true to myself and give it anymore than 3 stars.
