My experience was a mix of what the other reviewers had stated. Went into this shop in 2001 looking for a jacket and had some rough treatment from the owner. Never went in for the next 13 years and finally gave the place a second chance when I saw a pair of shoes I wanted for sale. It turned out the shoes weren’t available in my size, but Abe special ordered them and they came within a week for less than if I ordered direct from the shoe company’s website. There’s some loud, dated, merchandies but quite a few nice items as well Abe’s prices really can’t be beat. The best thing to do is tell the salesman what you want, and they’ll direct you to it. I’ve gone back a few times and got some nice pieces and will go again the next time I’m in the city.

This place is great. I came in with a few friends whilst strolling the Avenue on a sleepy post-Thanksgiving Saturday. Lots of places were closed, but our dapper male companion was most excited to see this place was open. We were enticed by a shoe display on the sidewalk featuring some very loud alligator shoes and our friend snagged a pair of boots from the outdoor sale rack to try on. The sales guy(owner?) was very friendly and helpful, showed our friend over to the vast shoe department where he just about died and went to heaven. It was a really impressive selection of men’s shoes for such an unassuming independent shop. In fact, the selection of everything was quite impressive! It’s a big store with something literally for every guy you know. I used to think this was a grandpa’s shop when walking by but they have plenty of modern and quality items along with old standbys and a nice selection of formal wear and suits. Lots of very reasonable prices. Can’t wait to come back here with my fiancé! Some reviewers mention they received less-than-friendly treatment here. We were treated great, but we also were clearly going to buy something and looked like solid sales marks, so that could have something to do with it.

AWFULAWFULAWFUL! The owner is IGNORANT! Walked in with my husband. He didn’t find anything so on the way out the owner says can he help him. Hubby says just looking. The owner says, «What do you think you’re in a mall?» THEN, after a few more words my husband says I appreciate your time. This fool says, «Don’t appreciate me, I just want your money.» We RAN out of there! Horrible service. Will never return.

Didn’t have time to go get one of my suits hours away in time for a wedding this weekend and these guys came through for me in the clutch big time. Bob made things easy for me as he set me up with the perfect Italian suit for Saturday. He threw in a bunch of extras and was extremely pleasant, patient, and helpful. The owner will talk your ear off, but was an extremely nice guy as well. He’s a little arrogant, but he seems like he’s earned it. Fantastic bargains and fantastic products. This place is legit. They also set me up with their tailor that will have the suit ready tomorrow. Thanks again, guys.

This place is awful. As soon as I walked in, I was swarmed by salespeople and you could tell that they were sizing me up. So I politely tell them that I don’t need any help. I know what I’m looking for. I have a feeling I’m going to find it. All I need is for folks to leave me alone for a few minutes to think things through on my own and they’re probably about to get a sale from me. It didn’t happen, though, because they wouldn’t leave me alone. When I started shuffling the hangers to get a look at the sizes and prices on a rack of shirts, the owner starts giving me a lecture about how I don’t need to look at the sizes because I can tell by the color of the hangers. His actual words are, «There’s a very simple system in my store.» He was really getting hostile about it. At that point, I just walked out. I THINK I saw a sign that said«please don’t touch the merchandise» on my way out. Not sure about that, but it definitely squares with my experience. This place should have died with the 70s, because that’s the era it’s stuck in. I found what I wanted at another store down the street where they left me alone after I told them I was fine to look on my own.

This place is definitely proof that looks can truly be deceiving. Whenever I used to walk by A Mans Image I dismissed it as being drastically behind the times due to its dated look and fact that I couldn’t gather much information on it online or otherwise compared to most other local clothing stores. But the more I walked by the more drawn I became to the reasonably priced designer merchandise and that were on the outdoor sales rack and window display. And upon first entry they won me over with the incredible deals and knowledgeable sales staff. The owner is a sharp dressed old head who will be quick to tell you how he’s been in the clothing business for 50+ years as he walks you through the product that best suits your style. And when it comes down to it if he can’t make you look good then no one can. he knows the product he buys in seam and out, and knows when to recommend things like scotch guarding for a jacket. his family runs the business with him and he has some pretty skilled staff as well. While some of the clothing did match the dated exterior, the store does yield a diverse amount of fashion at some pretty insane deals. designer pants went for as low as $ 50 for a pair of 2, and top of the lines sweaters went for as low as $ 30 for 2. When I picked up a brand new winter coat the owner was even cool enough to throw in a matching scarf free of charge. Add in plenty of suits, shirts, shoes, and then some; and you have a perfect destination for good fashion on a budget.

Reasonable prices with friendly and knowledgeable staff. This place is great if you need traditional, upscale men’s clothing and items.
