A Taste Of Soul is a very small, but chic restaurant in the Hunting Park section of Philly The décor is very tasteful with the steel tabletops and funky colored walls and flat screen tv’s and the bathroom is off the hook. My friend, «big head» Gary and I went there one Friday night for some takeout. I ordered the Deep Fried Spare Ribs out of curiosity, with Yams and Broccoli with cheese. Gary had the Roast Duck with a Rice Pilaf and Stir Fried Veggies. His selection seemed a little ambitious for a Soul Food spot, but he loved it. I had never heard of Fried Ribs before, but what the hell? Isn’t that how they discovered Reese’s Cups? The Ribs were great! I presume they were barbecued first then put in the deep fryer to make them crisp, then they were sauced. All the food was delicious, but both Gary and I thought the portions were way to small. We both went to Max’s for a Cheese Steak later on. I went there on another occasion with Donna late one Friday night. We both hadn’t eaten for awhile were hungry. Get this. It was after midnight and I had on a plate in front of me a New York Strip Steak encrusted with Asiago Cheese and Peppercorns with a Mushroom Au Jus. In the hood. Midnight. I was thinking how things are really changing.
