The food is wonderful and very inexpensive, but the place is really lackimg in ambiance, to say the least. We almost walked out without eating. So glad we gave it a chance. You should too!

I had a cold creamy eggplant thing here that was great. It was kinda like babaghanoush and sooo delicious. Other food has been okay. I wouldn’t want to get the beans again though — reminds me of Heinz.
Also costlier than I’d expect for casual takeout.

I usually come here for takeout and I never order off the menu. I just ask them what they have cooking, and they’ll hook me up with something tasty.
Dishes that stood out for me:
stewed okra
malakia (sp?) it’s a spinach-​like thing that they cook with chunks of lamb
cold eggplant dip

I was on the hunt for a shawarma sandwich, and I stopped by another local halal joint that I hadn’t been to in about 2 years. I was almost floored by the $ 7 price point for a simple sandwich, so I set off in search of another place. I wound up remembering the gyro place next door, but then I noticed this place, and their menu in the window. Shawarma for less than $ 5 was all it took to draw me in, and it was the BEST I’ve had in a long time.

The menu here seems to be a whole mess of random things, including but not limited to Middle Eastern, African, Greek, American fast food, and breakfast.
Tried the mixed grill platter. It was all right. Meat was ok, eggplant mush was ok, rice could have been better. The «salad» was mostly raw onions with a few sad pieces of lettuce thrown in.
I’m sad to say this, because I like being able to recommend and support small local business, but meh. The prices are meh and the food is meh. Kabobeesh is better. NY Gyro Place is also better, and right next door.
I guess that should really mean 2 stars, but I’ll be nice and give 3.

this place was great. the food was delicious, they’re super friendly, and pretty inexpensive. and the bonus — they serve legit mexican food on the weekend!
